Welcome to Season 3 of The WoMed! In the season premiere, Danielle is joined by the incredibly inspiring Clare Surette, who is living with Crohn’s disease. Clare talks all about destigmatizing Crohn’s and appreciating your body through it all. She opens up about the lack of resources she has found, but how social media helps her feel seen, heard, and connect with others. She discusses mental health, the pandemic, her education background in public health, and her plans for the future. Despite the optimism we hear from Clare, she still has her insecurities; the biggest of them all? Dating with her added “accessory,” her ostomy. She also shares advice with others in her same situation, facing the loop ileostomy that ultimately, she says, gave her her life back. She then offers advice for medical professions including: be patient, listen, and don’t rush your patients or push decisions on them. Ultimately, she encourages us to treat people as unique humans and not just a number in the medical system.
You can connect with Clare on Instagram @claresurette and @diary.of.a.crohnie. Be sure to subscribe, rate, and review, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter @TheWoMed. Remember to submit your weekly Nurse D Energy moments to D on Instagram — we love reading and sharing them!
