We've had the concept of "thought leadership" beaten over our heads in the online space for the past year. But from what I've observed, most business owners are missing the point entirely.

Thought leadership is not solely about sharing your hot takes. Thought leadership is not all about being "authentic" by embracing your inner hot mess. And it's definitely not about co-opting the term after you've received a few more likes on Threads than you originally expected. 

Being a true thought leader means embracing and embodying four distinct pillars: 

• Expertise (and why your unique process matters more than you think)

• Innovation (beyond just adding your spin to someone else's framework)

• Credibility (how to ensure your results actually tie back to YOU)

• Influence (the missing piece that most "thought leaders" forget)
