How To Cut It in the Hairdressing Industry

EP218: GUYS LIKE ME DON’T DO HAIRDRESSING! with Dexter Dapper

Listen Later

Perhaps hairdressing wasn’t a natural career choice for you. Well, for a lot of us that can be the case, and I include myself in that list. The same can be the said for todays guest, Dexter Dapper, International Artistic Director for Toni&Guy/Label M. It was after a conversation with group of friends in a local pub that the idea of hairdressing could be a great career match for him. A big lover of music and fashion there was so many reasons why hairdressing could really connect with both him and his fun guy personality. But Dexter still had some self doubts about hairdressing. He really did believe ‘guys like him don’t do hairdressing’!

For some outside of the industry, hairdressing can have a negative image. Sadly, this wrongful negative image can put many people off from entering into what we all know is a wonderful, dynamic and diverse industry. And jeez, once you do go and fully immerse yourself into it, you can find so many different assets and directions that you can take in a hairdressing career. Thankfully, this is very much what Dexter discovered once he made the decision to go into hairdressing after that initial conversation with friends. And it took him no time at all to grasp the opportunity of unlocking a successful pathway in it.

He’s joining the podcast today to tell us all about how he’s made hairdressing work for himself and his life. He’s used hairdressing to help him become the ‘best version he can be of himself’. Having this approach is at the heart of everything he does, giving him a career he genuinely could have never believed possible when he first started out in hairdressing. So, if you have ever felt hairdressing was an unfulfilling career with limited pathways, then there’s a lot of great stuff in this episode for you.
