EP305: How and Why Your Salon Business Needs to Become More Sustainable, with Melanie Tudor

Listen Later

Becoming a more sustainable salon business is crucial for our planet. By being a more sustainable salon business helps reduce environmental impact, minimise resource consumption, and contributes to the preservation of natural ecosystems. Failure to adopt sustainable measures can add to heightened carbon emissions, increased waste accumulation, and further degradation of natural resources, exacerbating the global environmental crisis.

Todays guest Melenie Tudor, is sustainable advocate. With 40 year’s experience, Melenie Tudor has established herself as the northern powerhouse of hairdressing and owner of the successful En Route Hair Salon in Wakefield.

What sets En Route apart as a high street salon is Melenie’s passion for sustainability. Melenie has made a conscious decision to look after the planet and make eco-friendly choices, while actively helping others to do the same to ensure longevity of salon businesses.

Our focus today is on sustainable practices for salon businesses. Melenie’s role as The Green Salon Collect ambassador has shaped her dedication to eco-friendly initiatives, stemming from her early days as a vegetarian and her firsthand experiences with the environmental impact of palm oil production in Borneo. Melenie shares in this episode on how she witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of deforestation and the plight of the orangoutangs.

From quick wins like recycling with the Green Salon Collective to engaging clients and teams through mirror talkers and refill discounts, Melenie provides actionable steps for businesses eager to embrace sustainability.

Stay tuned as she shares tips for overcoming resistance and highlights the significance of local partnerships in spreading the sustainability message and practices thats pushing for industry change around environmental issues.
