  • Posted workers: Social dumping continues despite Germany's recent efforts
France's President Emmanuel Macron is wrapping up a tour of Eastern Europe to tackle the issue of posted workers. It's an issue that's generated a good deal of controversy in Germany, where the practice has benefitted several sectors, including the meat processing industry. In Lower Saxony, some 40,000 people from various Eastern European and Baltic countries work in slaughterhouses, and after accusations of social dumping, Germany has tried to make changes to the sector to make temporary workers less attractive to employers. But as Anne Maillet and Jessica Saltz report, the much-criticised practice seems to be continuing.

  • Spate of public lynchings in India: Mob rule the new rule?
In recent months, India has seen a spate of public lynchings perpetrated by extremist Hindu groups and angry mobs. The victims of such mob violence are predominantly Muslims and other minorities. They are accused of eating beef and slaughtering cows - an animal considered sacred in Hinduism. The string of mob murders have put the spotlight on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his right-wing government. For the first time, figures on the lynchings have been published and they prove a dire read: Since 2010, a total of 63 mob attacks have been recorded, with a staggering 97 percent of them taking place since Modi came to power in 2014. The figures also show that more than eight in 10 victims are Muslims. The ultra-violent assaults seem to point to a trend fueled by an increase in religious fundamentalism in which Hindu extremist are inciting mob violence. Our correspondents Mandakini Gahlot, Philomene Remy, Yannis Granier and Suyash Shrivastava met with victims of the violence as well as the extremist Hindu militias perpetrating it.

  • Oil theft: A multi-billion dollar business fuels Mexican cartels
Mexico´s notorious drug cartels have thrived off drug trafficking, the arms trade and kidnapping as lucrative sources of revenue for years. But now, more and more cartels are setting their sights on stealing government-owned fuel. In the state of Puebla, cartels have gone as far as bribing farmers into uncovering pipelines in order to siphon off refined oil and sell it for big profit. The spike in prices at the beginning of this year has made stealing fuel more lucrative than ever in the eyes of criminal groups. Mexican authorities registered 200 cases of oil theft in 2012. In the last three months alone, that figure has jumped to more than 2,600. The losses for Mexico´s state oil giant, Pemex, have been enormous, costing the company almost 2.4 billion US dollars since 2010. Our team sent this report from Puebla, where authorities are desperately trying to get a grip on the problem. Report by Laurence Cuvillier, Matthieu Comin and Edmundo Velazquez

  • Hunger has forced many Nigerian refugees in northern Cameroon to return to dangerous Boko Haram territory.
Aid workers are facing their most-feared season in the Lake Chad Basin, where one of the worst refugee crisis on the African Continent is taking place. Refugees fleeing violence from the islamist sect Boko Haram, are in crucial need of food as they enter the 'Lean Period' - the cropless season between June and September. With less food available, and depleted stocks it's also known as the "hunger season". A period of tension and sometimes even violence, in the Minawoa refugee camp in the far north of Cameroon. Faced with famine, Nigerians are planning to return to their country, even if it means putting their lives at risk at the hands of Boko Haram. Report by Patrick Fandio, Pierre Akpro and Zigoto Tchaya, with Emmanuelle Landais.

  • Was Jewish pensioner's murder religiously motivated?
We look at a recent murder in France that received relatively little media attention. In early April, Sarah Halimi, a 65-year-old Jewish woman, was killed at her Paris home by one of her neighbours, a man who shouted "Allahu akbar". The killer has been placed under investigation for voluntary manslaughter, but anti-Semitism is not being considered as an aggravating factor. Yet the victim's family say it's obvious that Sarah Halimi was killed because she was Jewish. Our journalists investigate. A programme prepared by Charlotte Prudhomme.

  • France: Teething problems for Macron's fledgling party
President Emmanuel Macron's "La République En Marche" party is having its first teething problems, as it transitions from a grassroots movement to France's most powerful political organisation. Its members are being asked to vote on "statutes", the written rules which would determine the party's leadership structure. The vote was supposed to be a formality, but it's causing tensions among members who want more of a say in the party's future. Claire Paccalin-Williams and Karina Chabour report. A programme prepared by Stéphane Bernstein and Aline Schmidt.

  • The limits of affirmative action in Brazil
Brazil has the highest proportion of so-called "mixed race" people in the world. Yet only 13% of people aged 18 to 24 in that category are enrolled at university. Back in 2012, the government decided to introduce quotas for universities. But recently, the system appears to have stalled. Black student groups have denounced students they say are "too white" to benefit from this affirmative action policy, while universities have set up committees to examine skin color and ethnic background. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Aline Schmidt.

The last few weeks have seen a rise in attacks by Al-Shabaab Islamists along the Kenya-Somalia border. One area particularly affected is the county of Lamu, where 18 people have been killed in just the past fortnight. Authorities are on edge. Even during calm times, Lamu, which is popular with tourists, must be protected. But as Kenya's general election approaches, the president can't afford a loss in this strategic region. Our correspondents report. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Aline Schmidt.
