  • Faced with xenophobia, Congolese immigrants in South Africa feel abandoned
In South Africa, clashes between South Africans and foreigners have become a regular occurrence. Our correspondents went to meet members of the Congolese community, who have to deal with violent attacks, insults and their shops being looted. These immigrants claim they not only face a hostile local population but must also deal with the lax attitude of the police. A programme prepared by Aline Schmidt and Jessica Sestili

  • Controversy in South Korea over US missile defence system
Former human rights lawyer Moon Jae-In has won a landslide victory in South Korea's presidential election, ushering in an era of change after a devastating corruption scandal that brought down the previous president. Moon, of the Democratic Party, favours some form of dialogue with the regime in Pyongyang. He had also criticised the sudden deployment of the US missile defence system THAAD to South Korea earlier this month. Our correspondents report. A programme prepared by Aline Schmidt and Jessica Sestili.

  • India's biometric identity cards spark privacy concerns
In India, debate is raging over what's been dubbed "the world's largest mass surveillance project". Over a billion Indians now have identity cards with unique ID numbers associated with their biometric information. The card is essential for many things in daily life, from opening a bank account to accessing welfare schemes. The government says the system will help stamp out corruption and increase digital transparency, but critics denounce a case of "Big Brother". Our correspondents report.

  • 'Desperate' asylum seekers at Hungary border speak out
Hungary recently passed a controversial law allowing asylum seekers to be detained. The move has been condemned by human rights groups, who say it violates the country's obligations under international and EU laws. Around 7,000 migrants are now being held in Serbia while waiting to enter the EU, but Hungary only lets in around five people per day. Our team went to meet some of these asylum seekers stranded at the Hungarian border, who feel increasingly desperate.

  • Thousands of Brazilian families still living with Zika virus, one year on
A year ago, Brazil was struggling with the Zika epidemic. The mosquito-borne virus killed more than 180 people in the country and caused 10,000 babies to be born with microcephaly, or underdeveloped brains. Today, Zika remains a threat in the region and scientists are still working on a vaccine. Meanwhile, those families affected by Zika are still learning about the extent of their children's disabilities. Our team on the ground reports.

  • How France's voluntary military service is benefiting young people
France abolished compulsory military service 20 years ago, but it could be reintroduced by the winner of Sunday's presidential run-off. Both Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen want to bring back and adapt military service to today's society. For now, a voluntary scheme exists for youngsters aged 18 to 25. Set up by President François Hollande in 2015, it can last from six to 12 months and ends with a company internship. Our reporters went to meet some of the trainees.

  • Displaced women face threat of rape in CAR
It's one of the world's forgotten conflicts. Forced to flee violence in the Central African Republic, thousands of displaced people are languishing in a camp on the border between Chad and Sudan. For the women living there, every day is one of survival as they face the threat of rape even doing something as simple as going to the toilet or collecting water. Our team on the ground reports on the efforts being made to make their lives safer and how they are providing for their families.

  • Egypt's Coptic Christians targeted by Islamic State group
The Pope's visit to Egypt comes at a particularly tense time for the country's Coptic Christians, who are regularly targeted by the Islamic State group. Based in North Sinai, the terrorists recently claimed responsibility for two Palm Sunday church bombings that claimed 45 lives. Despite ongoing military operations since September 2013, the IS group has expanded its territory. Our reporters went to meet some of Egypt's Coptic Christians, a community living in fear. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • Burma's citizens still jailed for speaking their minds
In Burma, de facto leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has just celebrated her first year in power. Her NLD party has to govern with the army and the democratic transition is not running entirely smoothly. One particular worry is freedom of speech. A law called 66D still punishes defamation on the internet, with the number of cases soaring in recent months. Those arrested for speaking their minds are detained for months prior to their trial. Our regional correspondents met some of them. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Jessica Sestili and Laura Burloux.

  • LGBT survivors of torture in Chechnya speak out
For several weeks, journalists and NGOs have been drawing attention to a campaign of terror against the LGBT community in Chechnya, a Muslim-majority region of Russia in the Caucasus. Detentions, torture and even murders have been reported - but the authorities deny the claims. Our correspondent Elena Volochine managed to talk to some of the victims, who gave chilling accounts of persecution. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.
