  • 104: Ian A. revisits

🔸 IFS for physical pain? Can a part cause 2 weeks of stomach trouble? We find out fast. “Play fair, be kind. Stop defining me as just pain.”

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

    • 4 or 5 year old?
    • stomach pain
    • needs attendance

    • 🎓 What I'd like to do differently:
I'm not so relaxed here due to my own sharp back pain. So I was addressing mine (and wiggling around) while addressing his. Connected?

    • 103: Evelyn A. - first call

🔸 Evelyn wants to get to know the judge. We also find an 11 year old, afraid of rejection. Parts wanting to scream surprised me. And I do a little teaching.

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

      • Judging everything
      •  in head, eyes
      •  fear of being unhappy, and rejection
      •  rather be enjoying what’s already present
      •  thinks she’s 11
      •  needs to see consistency

      • 🎓 What I'd like to do differently:
She seemed nervous. Kinda makes me nervous. And I don’t know what to say in those situations. Should I just say “hey, you nervous?” Or explore concerns? Or is that exile energy that we can somehow address and ask to step back? Or is this just common for first-time callers, something I shouldn't be too concerned about?

      • 102: Brandon A. revisits

🔸 Brandon just got a promotion hours ago, he’s at work & riding high. But there's also a critic, judge, saying he can’t handle it. It's always there in his IFS work, and it’s time we get to know him.

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

        • The critic, judge
        • above heart
        • afraid of judgement from mother, not being listened to.
        • rather be relaxing, weapons down
        • thinks he’s 8
        • needs time, time with Brandon

        • 🎓 What I'd like to do differently:
A part of me wanted to push on the mom thing when it came up. Like when he said “there’s no rhyme or reason” I sort of wanted to shout. But. Like he said, as long as he spends the time, it will come.

        • 101: Jo A. revisits

🔸 Jo is in rehab. And we don’t have long to talk, so we go fast; a people-pleasing ballerina needs us.

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

          • 3,4 yo ballerina in a box
          • chest, sternum, shoulders. Butterflies
          • afraid of the darkness encroaching
          • rather be in the present
          • needs a secret code word, and needs what they all need..

🔸 A recent death & other big life changes. A casual stroll along some trail heads, when suddenly, a five-year-old! A new part!

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

            • 5 year old, doesn’t like sitting in church,lonely.
            • the whole left side of the body, almost taking over
            • what does it need? stay tuned…

            • 🎓 What I'd like to do differently:
I was tempted to push a bit more. This being only our second session, and the part showing up so abruptly, I decided not to.

His work with Psych Garden includes Psychedelic / Ketamine-Assisted therapies, though he believes many medications are overrated when compared to quality talk therapy. • 99: Gaby A. - first call

🔸 Gaby's a psychologist who works with kids, but has not tried IFS. We move pretty quick.

🔹 Part (Location, Fear, Rather be doing, Age, Needs):

              • rejection of her parents
              •  - feels hot, angry
              • - afraid of the pain of love not being returned
              • - rather be giving more love, and inwardly
              • - thinks she’s 9
              • - needs acknowledgement, to be listened to

              • 🎓 What I'd like to do differently:
I recently learned some techniques for staying in touch w parts, but I’m still hesitant about getting coach-y, assigning homework. So when I'm asked, I typically defer (to the part) and just hope they call again so we can address how it went. What do you think, am I being overly cautious?
