  • Counting His Coins
He knows your coffee order, shows up consistently, and treats you like you matter. But does his paycheck make him husband material—or are you worried about how his job title sounds at the dinner party?
On this episode of **Oh, That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations**, Janine and Nicole get into money, dating standards, and what it really means to build a life together.
First, the ladies catch up on Nicole’s recovery from laryngitis and her family’s Disney trip, while Janine celebrates her dad’s 86th birthday—and explains why his adventures at rehab have her more than ready to bring him home. Because, apparently, Dad is still charming the ladies!
In **“What’s on Our Timeline?”**, the conversation turns to earnings among Black men and women and the expectations we bring to dating. Are six-figure standards realistic? Are we looking for financial responsibility, or a lifestyle that looks good on social media? From rising expenses to the pressure to keep up appearances, Janine and Nicole unpack the difference between making money, managing money, and finding someone willing to build with you.
In **“Letters From Our Listeners,”** Natasha, a successful corporate attorney, wonders whether her relationship with Marcus, a thoughtful city bus driver, can go the distance. He has steady income, a pension, and no problem showing her love. But when marriage and children enter the conversation, she starts questioning his earning potential—and downplaying his career around her colleagues. Is she planning for their future, or letting other people’s opinions get in the way of a good man?
The **“Motivational Moment”** draws from financial educator Dasha Kennedy of The Broke Black Girl, reminding us that asking about income, debt, and credit belongs in a relationship. The deeper question: can you have those conversations while respecting the person across the table?
Listen in, share this episode with your group chat, and tell us: where does wanting financial security cross into judging someone by their paycheck?
Until we meet again… **Pray. Work. Slay. And show off your melanated excellence.**

  • Generational Cheating
Does it only count as cheating when something physical happens? Jănine and Nicole have plenty to say about that—and secrecy, emotional intimacy, and money are all part of the conversation.
First, the ladies catch up on a weekend filled with friendship and nostalgia, from a baby shower to a Cash Money and No Limit concert that brought back their Xavier days. Jănine shares highlights from her Las Vegas girls’ trip, an unexpected emergency-room detour, and a meaningful new tattoo honoring her mother. She also offers an update on her father’s recovery, while both reflect on making time to enjoy life.
In “What’s on Our Timeline?”, they explore what counts as cheating in 2026. From secret friendships and romantic messages to connections that cross emotional boundaries, they discuss where trust gets tested—and why couples need to be clear about their expectations.
In “Letters From Our Listeners,” Stephanie asks whether her husband’s relationship with his “work wife” is worse than her ongoing connection with an ex. With expensive gifts, hidden conversations, and questions about commitment in the mix, Jănine and Nicole agree on some things and debate others. Can this marriage move forward without both partners taking accountability?
For the “Motivational Moment,” Nicole reminds us that betrayal can cause real damage even when it never becomes physical.

  • Brady Bunch or Nah?
Does having children determine who you should date—or is love more complicated than a checklist?
This week on Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations, Jănine and Nicole kick things off with the joyful recap of Nicole’s wedding weekend in Port Antonio, Jamaica. From unforgettable food and nonstop dancing to heartfelt vows and a beautiful new chapter, a time was definitely had!
In “What’s on Our Timeline?”, a viral debate sparks some real questions: Should women with children leave childless men for childless women? Jănine and Nicole unpack dating preferences, double standards, blended families, and the importance of understanding the why behind your relationship requirements. Are your boundaries protecting your peace—or closing the door on a meaningful connection?
In “Letters From Our Listeners,” a divorced mother says she’s open to dating fathers—but only under certain conditions. Is she being honest about what she can handle, or expecting someone else’s parenting responsibilities to fit neatly into her life?
The ladies weigh in on compatibility, co-parenting, and protecting the stability you’ve built for yourself and your child.
Finally, the “Motivational Moment” invites some honest self-reflection: Having preferences doesn’t make you a hypocrite, but are you willing to offer the same acceptance you’re asking someone else to give you?

  • My Boyfriend's Wedding
Imagine helping your boyfriend get dressed for his best friend’s wedding—only to discover that he wasn’t a groomsman. He was the groom.
This week on Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations, Nicole is six days away from her destination wedding and preparing to transport welcome bags, programs and plenty of other wedding essentials to Jamaica. Meanwhile, Jănine has planned multiple looks for the celebration and is deciding just how much she intends to let hang out at the welcome party.
The ladies talk wedding attire, body confidence, stretch marks, surgery scars and choosing whatever makes you feel comfortable in your own skin.
During “What’s on Our Timeline?”, Jănine shares the unbelievable story of a woman who helped her boyfriend prepare for what she believed was his best friend’s wedding. After he failed to come home, a suspicious phone call and a Facebook search revealed the truth: her boyfriend had married another woman. Nicole and Jănine debate who knew what, whether the new wife was also being deceived and what should happen when a man proves that he belongs to the streets.
In “Letters From Our Listeners,” a friend writes about discovering that the man she dated for nearly four years had maintained another relationship, shared a home and raised a child with someone else.
She asks how manipulators become so skilled at living double lives—and how intelligent, successful women can protect themselves from people who lie without hesitation. The ladies discuss trust, overlooked red flags, gaslighting, intuition and why walking away is sometimes the only answer you need.
During the “Motivational Moment,” Nicole offers this reminder: “A manipulator doesn’t just steal your time; they steal your trust and your own intuition. Your healing begins the moment you believe in yourself again.”

  • Girls Trip!.......Sike!
Jănine and Nicole catch up as Nicole prepares for her wedding and the realities of blending two established lives, while Jănine celebrates returning to work after surgery—and confesses to a slightly out-of-control TikTok fragrance-shopping habit.
In “What’s on Our Timeline?”, the ladies unpack a girls’ trip that never existed. After collecting $1,200 from each friend, the organizer uses the money to pay her bills, leaving the group stranded at the airport. Was financial desperation behind the betrayal—or was this friendship-ending theft?
Then, in “Letters From Our Listeners,” a listener discovers that a close friend copied his professional accomplishments, credentials, and entire sections of his résumé before applying to his company. When helping a friend becomes being taken advantage of, can that trust ever be restored?
Finally, the “Motivational Moment” reminds us that not every ending is a loss.
Sometimes God exposes a shady friend—not to punish them, but to protect you.

  • The Oh That's Deep Black Women Conversations Pregnancy Pearls Crossover Episode
In this special crossover episode of Pregnancy Pearls and Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations, Dr. Nicole Plenty is joined by her friend and co-host Jănine Brunson for an honest conversation about uterine fibroids—a condition that affects millions of women and disproportionately impacts Black women.
Dr. Plenty explains what fibroids are, the symptoms they can cause, their potential impact on fertility and pregnancy, and the treatment options available. Jănine then shares her deeply personal journey, from living with debilitating pain and uncontrollable bleeding to undergoing two myomectomies and fighting to preserve her fertility.
Together, they confront the expectation that Black women should quietly endure pain, reveal how fibroids can disrupt work, intimacy, confidence, and everyday life, and emphasize the importance of listening to your body, seeking second opinions, and finding a provider who respects your goals.
Fibroids may be common, but suffering in silence should never be.

  • Regular Black and the Biracial Divide
In this episode of Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations, Jănine shares an emotional update following her second myomectomy and reflects on finally experiencing life without the debilitating symptoms of fibroids. Meanwhile, Dr. Nicole Plenty takes listeners inside the politics of wedding planning, from missed RSVP deadlines to guests who refuse to accept that the list is closed.
During “What’s on Our Timeline?”, Jănine and Nicole examine troubling social media stories from biracial adults who say they experienced racism, prejudice, or discomfort with Blackness inside their own families. The ladies discuss whether love alone is enough when raising a child across racial lines, the responsibility parents have to confront their biases, and why shared values and self-awareness matter more than appearances.
In “Letters From Our Listeners,” a biracial woman questions her childhood after recognizing a pattern in her white mother’s comments about her hair, Black women, and her dark-skinned Black fiancé. Is she unfairly rewriting the past—or can someone genuinely love individual Black people while still holding racist beliefs? Jănine and Nicole offer two very different perspectives on parental love, racial bias, accountability, and grace.
The episode closes with a “Motivational Moment” inspired by Maya Angelou and a reminder that growth does not require perfection—it requires the humility to learn, understand someone else’s experience, and love them better.

  • Literacy Is Not a Luxury
This week on Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations, Jănine and Nicole start with some wedding-week chaos—from Nicole’s bridal alterations nightmare to destination wedding logistics, RSVPs, and Janine’s very serious commitment to making sure the Jamaica welcome party happens.
    Then the conversation gets deep.
In What’s on Our Timeline?, Jănine brings a viral social media series featuring high school students struggling with basic reading, comprehension, and math. What begins as a reaction to the videos quickly becomes a much larger conversation about Black children, literacy, education, parenting, school systems, learning disabilities, access to resources, social media, and the responsibility of the community.
Nicole and Jănine don’t agree on everything—particularly when it comes to where accountability begins—but they agree on what’s at stake. Literacy isn’t simply about passing a class. It affects our ability to understand contracts, manage money, advocate for ourselves, navigate healthcare, pursue careers, build wealth, and function independently.
And if children are reaching high school without those fundamental skills, pointing fingers isn’t enough. We have to ask what happened to the village—and what it will take to rebuild it.
In Letters From Our Listeners, a concerned listener asks the question at the heart of the episode: How do we help children who are already struggling without shaming them—and how do we demand more from the systems that continue to fail them? Janine and Nicole talk about positive reinforcement, community responsibility, grassroots solutions, parental accountability, and why lifting the next generation requires all of us.
And in the Motivational Moment, the ladies reflect on Malcolm X’s reminder that education is the passport to the future—and why preparing our children for that future begins today.

  • Raising Vs. Birthing: Will the Real Mom Please Stand Up!
What happens when loving a child, raising a child, and being recognized as that child’s mother don’t all belong to the same person?
This week, Janine and Nicole catch up on life, exhaustion, upcoming surgery, birthdays—and why sometimes getting a little rest feels like an accomplishment all by itself. The conversation also opens the door to a future discussion about Janine’s journey with fibroids and the importance of women advocating for their health.
Then, in What’s on Our Timeline?, the ladies unpack a viral video involving a stepmother confronting her young stepson after he asks to spend Mother’s Day with his biological mother. What begins as a conversation about appreciation quickly becomes something much deeper: abandonment, blended-family dynamics, privacy, a child’s right to love both a biological parent and a stepparent, and whether adults sometimes expect children to meet emotional needs they were never responsible for carrying.
In Letters From Our Listeners, a stepmother who has helped raise her husband’s daughter since she was three admits she's beginning to resent watching the teenager continue to seek love and approval from an inconsistent biological mother. After years of showing up, sacrificing and caring for her stepdaughter, she asks a difficult question: Is she wrong for wanting to be seen? Janine and Nicole have thoughts—and, as usual, they don't completely agree on how much a stepparent should sacrifice.
Finally, the Motivational Moment is for everyone who has ever quietly poured into others without receiving the recognition they deserve: being overlooked doesn't make you unimportant, and your consistency, sacrifice and presence matter more than you may ever know.
Because sometimes the deepest conversations aren't about choosing sides.
They're about remembering who needs protecting most—and understanding that love isn't a competition.

  • This Isn't What I Signed Up For
This week on *Oh That’s Deep: Black Women Conversations*, Janine and Nicole step into an uncomfortable but necessary conversation about motherhood, regret, identity, and the pressure women—especially Black women—can feel to simply be strong and make it work.
First, the ladies catch up on life, from Nicole’s adventures at sea to Janine’s ongoing health journey—and a little disagreement over whether Janine should be anywhere near Nicole’s upcoming bachelorette festivities.
Then, **What’s on Our Timeline?** takes the conversation much deeper. A mother admits that although she loves her children, if she could do it all over again, she wouldn’t become a mother. Can you love your children and still regret motherhood? Janine and Nicole unpack pregnancy, postpartum emotions, identity, sacrifice, the expectations placed on Black women, and why we need to make room for women to say what they’re really feeling—even when it makes us uncomfortable.
In **Letters From Our Listeners**, Adam writes in with an emotional dilemma of his own. He believes his wife regrets becoming a mother—and he fears their children are beginning to feel her emotional distance. What do you do when you love your spouse, love your children, and aren't sure everyone wants the same life anymore? Janine and Nicole weigh counseling, building a stronger village, bringing in additional support, protecting the marriage and, above all, making sure the children have what they need.
Finally, in the **Motivational Moment**, the words of Zora Neale Hurston offer the perfect reflection for this conversation: *“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.”* Sometimes the answers about who we are—and who we want to become—don't arrive when we expect them to.
It’s honest. It’s complicated. It may even make you uncomfortable. But that’s exactly why we need to talk about it.
    Until we meet again…
