Finglas Street Lit Up To The Nines For A Very Good Christmas Cause

A video appeared over the weekend of what has to be one of the most Christmassy streets in Dublin!

Dylan Walsh took the time to decorate the street for his neighbours. He's done it every year for the last 6 years but this year went all out with more lights than ever before to raise everyone's spirits. He is raising money Arc Cancer Support which helped his family through a difficult time when his cousin passed away from cancer.

Dublin Talks Listeners Share What Food They Craved During Pregnancy

On Friday Dublin Talks Team member Katie welcomed a new baby into the world. Katie's pregnancy craving was kidney beans which she normally hates On the back of this we received a huge volume of calls. Jackie called in and said she use to eat lemon wedges, the rind and all! One woman said that she ate boiled pig feet during her pregnancy.

Safer Gambling Week

We also spoke to a man who told us about his addiction to betting. He completed rehab just three months ago.

Non-consensual sharing of nude photos

Over the last few days reports surfaced of a large scale leak of nude photos affecting a huge amount of Irish women.

Tens of thousands of photos of women and girls have been stored and shared across a number of different forums. It includes nude images of minors and images taken without consent.

This morning on Dublin Talks we spoke to Linda Hayden, founder of The Victims Alliance. They have been working tirelessly to identify and support victims of the leak.

We have unprecedented situation where we have become aware of a massive issue around image based crime. We have seen massive folders with thousands of images that have been taken and shared without consent of the person in the image. The scale of the problem is in tens of 1000s

A Dublin school has sent parents a letter banning phones

This morning on Dublin Talks we heard about a letter sent to parents from a Dublin school.

The primary school has told parents that phones are not allowed and will be confiscated if found.

Some listeners believe there should be no need for a child to have a phone in school. However, some parents want their kids to have them so they can check in throughout the day.

Another opinion was that the school should not be telling parents what to do.

Maternity hospital restrictions

All through the pandemic there have been strict maternity hospital restrictions in place.

Although the need for safety is understandable, they are having a major impact on expectant parents.

This morning on Dublin Talks we spoke to Niamh. Sadly, Niamh suffered a miscarriage last week.

Having driven the long journey to the hospital alone she was given the heartbreaking news.

Once back in the car, she couldn't bring herself to ring her husband at home with the kids. She couldn't get the words out.

Niamh ended up having to text him the awful news and face the journey home alone.

Will you do your Christmas shopping at night?

With a huge rush expected post-Level 5, there's talks of retailers being allowed to extend their Christmas shopping hours.

This morning on Dublin Talks we asked will you be availing of them? Can you see yourself in Penneys at 11pm? Will you be toy shopping in Smyths in the middle of the night?

Some people feel sorry for workers who'll have to do these hours. However, some retail workers said they'll be delighted to get back to work so will take it!

Dublin Zoo

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and being closed Dublin Zoo is in financial crisis.

Every month it costs €500,000 to care for the animals at the zoo. However, that's becoming a struggle to hit with no revenue coming in.

We spoke to an elephant Zookeeper about what we can do to help.

We also heard your best memories of one of the city's best attractions. It clearly has a special place in all our hearts!

Children's flu vaccine

GPs around Ireland have expressed their disappointment with the uptake on the children's flu vaccine.

The vaccine is given through a nasal spray. It's available for free to children between the ages of 2 and 12.

However, it has only had a 20% uptake so far.
