What if “balance” is actually keeping you stuck? In this episode, I’m talking about The Pendulum Swing™ — one of the biggest concepts I use in eating disorder recovery. If your eating disorder has spent years pulling you toward restriction, control, fear foods, compensation, “healthier” choices and endless rules, recovery is not about immediately trying to find some perfect middle ground. It’s about repeatedly going in the opposite direction. Again. And again. And again. In this episode, I talk about why the pendulum needs to swing, why moderation can sometimes become another form of restriction, energy debt, extreme hunger, opposite action, fear foods, mental restriction, and why one challenge is often not enough to truly rewire a rule. The goal is not to live at the opposite extreme forever. The goal is to practise the opposite often enough that the fear, rules and moral meaning around food lose their power. Until food becomes… just food. Fall Reset If you’re listening to this and thinking: “I know what my eating disorder is telling me to do, but I struggle to actually do the opposite,” this is exactly the kind of work I do with my clients. I’m currently offering my Fall Reset — an intensive 10-week coaching journey with me, including regular coaching, personalised support, accountability and work around your specific rules, fears, behaviours and body image struggles. There is likely only one spot left. I don’t expect to run this exact offer again. The value of what’s included is far higher than the investment, and I created it as a one-time opportunity to work closely with me for more than two months. If you’ve been stuck in the same cycle and you’re ready to actually start doing the opposite instead of endlessly negotiating with your eating disorder, head to my website and apply for the Fall Reset today. We can take it from there. Read the blog I also wrote a full blog post on The Pendulum Swing™ if you want to go deeper into the concept and the science behind it. What if some of the eating disorder recovery advice you’re following has actually just become… another set of eating disorder rules? In this episode, I’m sharing my anti-advice: the common recovery approaches I either don’t stand behind or think need WAY more nuance. We’re talking weighing, covering mirrors and body checking, rigid meal plans, stopping exercise completely, “intuitive eating,” balance and moderation, the plate-by-plate approach, calorie counting, and the obsession with overshoot. I also explain why I prefer restorative eating over intuitive eating, why structure should never become rigidity, why I sometimes use a short exercise reset before actively rewiring exercise compulsion, and why recovery should never become a prettier, more socially acceptable version of control. Because the goal isn’t to become really good at recovery rules. The goal is to eventually not need the rules at all. Food becomes food. Your body becomes your body. Movement becomes something you can do or not do. And your life becomes much, much bigger than your eating disorder. This one might ruffle a few feathers. 👀 Do you want some more support to help you get unstuck? In this episode, I’m responding to a post from a recovery content creator with over 100,000 followers who argued that maybe we’ve become a little too afraid of restriction — that perhaps we say “yes” to food too often, and that sometimes wanting more food but deciding you’ve had enough can be completely fine. And I have… thoughts. Because there is a HUGE difference between what might be neutral food decision-making for someone without an eating disorder and the kind of message you give to someone who is actively trying to recover from restriction. When your audience is full of people whose eating disorder is already desperately looking for permission to eat less, move more, choose the “healthier” option, or convince themselves they’ve had enough… telling them that restriction isn’t necessarily a problem can be incredibly dangerous. So in this episode, I’m unpacking the nuance that I think is missing from this conversation, why recovery advice needs to be recovery-specific, and why I will continue to be the person telling you that your eating disorder probably does NOT need another reason to say no to food. Offer expires on June 9th! ---------------------------------- Many of my clients struggle with gaining weight, especially gaining weight past a certain, pre-set target weight that would make them 'weight restored'. Once you've reached that weight, you may find yourself freaking out about the fact that you're still experiencing with extreme hunger or still not feeling your best (cue your eating disorder telling you that's evidence of the fact that weight loss is not bad for you)... Well, that's because being weight restored does not mean you're nutritionally rehabilitated. So when are you nutritionally rehabilitated? How do you get there? And how do you cope while you work to get to that point? All that and more in this week's episode - tune in! -------------------------------- Are you not yet ready to recover, but are you sick of living this way? Then I've got a perfect match for you: This summer, I have coaching spots available specifically for those who are not yet ready to recover, but do not want to continue living this way either. So be sure to follow me on Instagram and check out my new website with new programs, to get more information about coaching spots and sign up! I've talked about feasting in recovery more often - on why it's not only logical but necessary to fuel your body with A LOT of food that's easily digestible (aka 'processed foods') and foods that you've restricted for so long. But what if you feel like you're there - you've recovered from your restrictive eating disorder, be that anorexia, bulimia or OSFED, and you're still "stuffing your face"?! In today's episode I talk about why feasting after recovery is not to be feared, why it doesn't mean you've developed 'binge eating disorder' (and why that is in no way 'worse' or 'less desirable' than any other eating disorder), and how to deal with it. Tune in for some comforting words as well as my personal (current!) experience with feasting, and learn how to be okay with 'feasting' before, during, and after recovery. My new program, The Booster Intensive, is starting soon! Besides this program, I've got some other programs as well.
