It doesn't get more complex than being human. Lucky for us there are people like Peter Quarry floating around, helping us figure it all out along the way! Peter's a life expert, psychologist, writer and media presenter who make the complex, not-so-complex!
In this episode we talk about the idea of talking with strangers, desensitizing social anxiety, having a life review, self-awareness and self-understanding and basically anything useful I could think to weed out of this psychology superstar whilst I had him at my beck and call for a fleeting moment.

Ever find yourself snookered, only to admit you're the one doing the snookering? Me too... all the damn time! This week I take a look at how that plays out, amidst a little public service announcement around a change in show schedule. Enjoy!

When you hear 'motivated by murder', it's likely to make you conjure up feelings such as fear, anger, injustice, bitterness and a desire for revenge. But that's not the case for Ken Marslew, (well not now, anyway) whose actions have been motivated and set in motion due to the callous murder of his university-age son Michael, a good kid simply working his shift at Pizza Hut when his killer carried out an armed robbery and took Michael's life in the process.
We spoke to Ken for the first time 18 months ago (Episode 309, Killing Killers With Kindness) and back then he shared deeply the process he went through in the quest to manage grief, come to terms with the emotional roller-coaster and somehow find it within himself to do the incredible work around understanding and rehabilitating (and preventing further) perpetrators of violence.
It's a huge topic and one that, as you can imagine, gets muddied with complex human emotions and subjectivity for whomever is involved. People like Ken Marslew are a rare gift and if you're anything like me, you might find yourself learning a lot of perspective when we listen and empathise with such an experience.

14 September 2018 at 2:18pm was a moment in time that changed the course of so many innocent lives. Victoria Police Detective Senior Sergeant Vic Kostiuk was taking part in the Wall-to-Wall ride, a charity ride to raise funds for Police Legacy. Riding with Vic was his son, Felix, who is also a Victoria Police member. Father and son joy turned upside down when met with gut-wrenching tragedy as a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol, recklessly collided with Vic with fatal consequences.
In this poignant conversation, Felix bravely shares his experiences, reflecting on the grief he witnessed that day and the subsequent challenges he faced in the weeks, months, and years that followed. He discusses the profound impact on his family and relationships, the complexities of navigating fatherhood in the absence of his own father, and the struggle of reclaiming stolen moments of happiness amid the haunting presence of PTSD.
Felix's story is a testament to resilience and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

In this chat with Bobby, we are talking about the practice of positivity and the idea that it's precisely that, a practice. How might that differ from toxic positivity, and where are our positive -thinking blind spots?
Enjoy!

Jane. She’s just your run-of-the-mill, everyday dominatrix next door. Say whaaaaaat? Yep, I can just about hear you all secretly thinking ‘what on earth leads a mother of two through such a potentially dark door?’. Well tune into the very conversation we all wish the walls had ears for… because now they do. Who have thought that the catalyst for such a career might have come from the idea of a side hustle in children’s parties? But it did, and thus Mistress Jane was born… The self-proclaimed gateway drug to kink and BDSM allowing the you-and-I’s of the world to take a peek behind the curtain and get a glimpse at what the hell it’s all about; And boy oh boy at the mention of feathers, floggers, kink play and consent, did I have a question or two for our Mistress Jane. Enjoy!

'We're all dying from the moment we are born.' It's the truth, but a truth we never really acknowledge or contemplate. I never could have imagined how much I was going to love this conversation with Stephen Jenkinson. He's a philosopher and a wordsmith, a deep-thinker and an articulate communicator, and he has a way of weaving linguistic magic that took my mind into places it loves to go.
We talk about death and what it means to die. How we wrestle with fear of it and thus in the process of which, do we truly live? As humans we are tiny, fleeting and somewhat insignificant on this earth... What happens if and when we make peace with this concept? Or can we make peace with it at all?

In a previous episode one of my guests spoke of the importance of rupture and repair in relationships and friendships. It's something I found incredibly insightful and have since discussed quite a bit... Here's an episode on just that!

"Being in prison made me a better person." - Kerry Tucker
Not the words you'd expect from someone who left two very young daughters on the outside and spent 5 years in maximum security prison, right? Well, Kerry Tucker, once known as prisoner 171435, is far from what you'd expect in many ways. She's someone who for 5 years, imprisoned with some of Australia's most notorious female inmates.
Despite the environment, the stigma, and the suffering that comes with being a mother who was forced to face her fate in prison and abandon her young girls in the process, Kerry took the cards she was dealt and made sure she made amends with her destiny.
From the day of her release, with a Master of Arts degree in hand, Kerry walked into a job with Swinburne University (I know, right?!) and has since attained a PhD, contributed to the script writing for Wentworth season 1 and dedicates herself to being an advocate for educating women in prison.
A true beacon of hope for those who think they cannot turn their life around.

Roll With The Punches is where we step into the ring and go toe to toe with the hard sh*t life throws our way.
Hosted by former boxing champ turned strength coach and speaker Tiff Cook, RWTP brings you big conversations with world-class guests about psychology, relationships, trauma, the brain, and the patterns that can make a bloody mess of our lives.
If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
