It's fair to say I have a hell of a passion for engaging in meaningful conversations, which is why, when the world as we knew it shut down in 2020, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands to dive into the conversational deep-end and launch this podcast. With the uncertainty of the pandemic, I wanted to invest my time into something that couldn't be taken away from me, should that crazy turn of events turn out to be my financial and material demise. Through the process of holding and hosting conversations, I gained valuable insights and experiences that have helped me grow.
In this episode, my guest Bobby and I delve into the art of conversation and the importance of effective communication. We explore some of the lessons I've learned along the way and discuss ways to improve our conversational skills. I thoroughly enjoyed our discussion and I hope you find it insightful as well.

How do you feel right now? And if you answered 'good' what does that even mean? Good like happy? Good like productive? Good like hopeful? Good like grateful? And is this feeling based on one lingering circumstance, or does it encompass a whole day, week or particular length of time?
In today's episode, prompted by a new mindfulness meditation app and practice I've been doing each day I'm talking about some of these ideas and experiences I've had as I've reflected on how I deem the answer to that question each day. And in doing so, realise how little curiosity and how much potential for deeper inquiry I typically have around my current emotional state and what I can learn from spending just a moment contemplating it.
Lend an ear and let me know your thoughts!

Is it possible to reconcile science and spirituality? Can a researcher and neuroscientist be open to having their coffee grounds read? And can psychopaths truly change?
Meet Mona Sobhani, a cognitive neuroscientist, researcher, and author with over 15 years of experience. Like me, she is fascinated by the intersection of science, technology, and society. However, unlike me, she has delved into this area through research in cognitive neuroscience, law and neuroscience, and digital health. Recently, she has been exploring consciousness, transformative technology, and the connection between science and spirituality.
Tune in and join us as we dive into these thought-provoking questions and learn from Mona's inquisitive research.
Enjoy!

Humanity is spoilt for choice when it comes to diets, information and protocols to manage and harness our (so often strained) relationships with food. Though it stands to reason that no matter how suitable any single protocol we land on might be for us, this very approach lacks one crucial ingredient, honouring our body's innate wisdom. Just like every other species on the planet, we were built with a well functioning operating system around what, when and how to eat for our survival. But then we got 'smart'. We stopped listening to us and started listening to the world around us.
Evelyn Tribole MS, RD is an award-winning registered dietitian, renowned for her teaching around intuitive eating. Today we explore the misconceptions, stories and strategies around intuitive eating (and current lack-thereof). This is such a great perspective on something that is such an enormous part of our lives that too often see us hold ourselves to ransom.

I have been eagerly anticipating my conversation with Professor Moran Cerf for some time now. He is a professor of neuroscience and business with a PhD in neuroscience, an MA in Philosophy, and a BSc in Physics. In layman's terms, he is a professional white-hat hacker turned neuroscientist and human behavior expert who has been tasked by the US government with rethinking the current US Nuclear launch protocol. Additionally, he recently authored a cartoon book, adding to the fascinating diversity of his mind.
During our conversation, I ask Moran some hard-hitting questions that delve into the complexities of the brain, mind, thinking, and behavior. For example, we explore whether thinking is a function of the brain or the mind, whether we truly control our thoughts and behaviors, and how we define our sense of self.

When I joined my first boxing gym it didn't take long before I adopted the regular hastag #FightFamily to describe the people surrounding me in this training environment. It was the sense of belonging, connection and being 'in it together' that lured me in and had me hooked.
Today Bobby and I talk all things training hard, seeing (or not seeing) our results and what really motivates us to be a consistent gym-goer.
Some great insights into finding or creating your 'third place' in a sport or fitness club.

Anxiety. We've all experienced it in moments, whether that be short term and circumstantial in the lead up to something nerve-wracking, or chronic and multi-layered from long-term stress or worry. In today's episode I'm sharing one tip that I find extremely useful when it comes to understanding, processing and essentially turning the dial down on the experience of anxiety. I hope you find it helpful.

Emotions can be a mighty turbulent ride, leaving us feeling somewhat seasick by the time we reach adulthood. But what if we could learn to master our emotions in just 90 seconds? According to Dr. Joan Rosenberg, this is an achievable goal, as she explains in her latest book, '90 Seconds To The Life You Love.'
She sure has me listening at this point...
In this episode, we explore Dr. Rosenberg's insights on dealing with unpleasant emotions, overcoming soulful depression, avoiding the mistake of confusing avoidance with resilience, and taking control of our emotions instead of letting them control us. Join us as we unpack emotional baggage and discover how to live the life we love. I think this will be a great episode, and I hope you enjoy it too!

In this episode, we talk to Dr. Kelly Ruef about female hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Dr. Ruef is a licensed naturopathic doctor who completed her medical education at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. We discuss the different types of HRT available, including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, and how they can be used to alleviate symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. Dr. Ruef also shares her insights on the risks and benefits of HRT, as well as the potential side effects and long-term effects on overall health. We touch on the controversies surrounding HRT and address common misconceptions about its safety and efficacy. Whether you are considering HRT or simply want to learn more about this topic, this conversation offers a wealth of information and practical advice for women of all ages.
Dr. Ruef would like to add that overall lifetime exposure to estrogen can affect breast cancer risk, thus providers need to use caution with estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) dosing. Also, the way in which a woman metabolizes her estrogen can affect her breast cancer risk, thus some providers find it helpful to measure phase 1 and 2 estrogen metabolites using the DUTCH Test.
You can check out her presentation on the estrogen metabolism patterns that can increase breast cancer risk here: https://dutchtest.com/video/elevated-4-oh-and-breast-cancer-risk/
This tool can be helpful for people to find a provider who uses DUTCH Testing if they are in the US or Canada: https://dutchtest.com/find-a-dutch-provider/
International patients can call our lab (503) 687-2050 or email [email protected] to get a list of providers who use DUTCH Testing in their area.

The age-old saying goes, "comparison is the thief of joy", but they forgot to add the very important "sometimes" to this statement. Let's we wrap context around how we use comparison, which might then dictate whether or not it may thieve us of joy? Craig Harper and I unpack some ideas around the difference between unhealthy comparison and healthy competition, how we can aim to manage the balance between these two and how mindset matters in the middle of the shit we'd rather not deal with.
Enjoy!

If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
