Some people's well-meaning 'good advice' is other people's toxic trait just waiting to pull them under. Sometimes tough love, hard work and grit is the answer, yet sometimes it's the very root of the problem at hand. This week Bobby and I are talking about burnout and exhaustion whilst we reflect on the cause and effect of the resources, information and 'inspiration' that's at our fingertips these days. Ikigai is a Japanese word for the concept of having a reason for living or a sense of purpose. Sometimes this concept is at the core of why some people respond well to grit and 'harden-up-ness' whilst others who may not have yet found their ikigai can suffer severe consequences of taking that same type of approach.
Life... if only it were less complex, hey!

You know what we all need a lot more of in life? Potato moments, that's what. It might sound like utter nonsense right now, but I'm convinced that by the end of this episode you'll be a fan of more potato moments too!
It's an episode about being present. About the things that really fill our cups. About the connections and the conversations that too many of us (myself included) are missing out on in today's fast-paced, digitally connected world.

In this episode I'm speaking with renowned high performance expert Michael Gervais, host of the Finding Mastery podcast and I'm excited to say he's sharing some of his wisdom and strategies around high performance and mastery.
How often are we watching everyone else, wanting the goods for ourselves, but not at all willing to hand over the currency?? Sometimes the currency is time. Sometimes it's money. Sometimes it's relationships. Sometimes it's a trauma or even a level of brokenness that's serving as the glue that holds our ability to achieve greatness together. And if we find out that's the case for us, would we rather stay elite or would we choose to heal?
I LOVED this episode and how frank Michael is with his own knowledge and even personal experience of mastery and high performance. For me, it's a must listen!

Between years of boxing, personal training and generally being a hell-for-leather, all-or-nothing type individual, it's fair to say I've encountered, managed and seen more than enough injuries, niggles and performance-hindering physical challenges along the way. This has led me through the doors of a number of physical therapists seeking answers and resolutions. And over the years I can wholeheartedly say that today's guest, Brett Jarosz stands head and shoulders above the vast majority and so I'm beyond thrilled to have lured him onto the show for a banter.
We talk about who to trust with our bodies, when to (and when not to) consider surgery, the correlation between pain and injuries, placebos and nocebos and even how the language used by our practitioners can have a profound and lasting effect on our physical recovery.
Brett has worked with some of the world's elite athletes including world champion surfer Tyler Wright and shares some astounding insights into optimising human performance and simply getting the best out of our bodies for as long as we can.
This is a must listen episode for anyone who wants to stay active!

The fabulous Jem Fuller is back and he and I are having banter about the impact of today's click-bait-ey (usually absolute rubbish) news on our minds and perception of our world. We unpack the dangers of outrage culture and the obvious importance of maintaining a little empathy and understanding. From moral dilemmas to cultural misunderstandings, and the even the potential rehabilitation (and best way to achieve it) for those who have caused harm. Can we actually move beyond our biases and personal wounds and find compassion for those who have hurt us?

With AI chasing our tails and becoming increasingly proficient at doing a range of things that humans do, many of us might be asking ourselves the question "Am I going to be replaced by a robot anytime soon?". Fair question too. Bobby and I are bantering today about becoming (or staying) irreplaceable as the world around us evolves at a frightfully rapid rate!

"Am I the problem here?"
There's a question we rarely ask ourselves but should. How often do we point the finger at all the things that don't go our way and all the people who let us down, hurt us or make us feel inadequate? Well, the reality is that doing so might pass the buck in the moment, but it's not all that liberating, is it? In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that I feel it can really reinforce a state of learned helplessness. When I ask myself how I've played a part in undesired outcomes I regain the power to learn and grow from what my results are telling me.
People have let me down. Yeah, sure some people won't have our best interests at heart no matter what, BUT... Have I shown up for them the way I've expected them to show up for me? Have I expressed my needs and set my boundaries? Have I accepted recurring behaviours from them yet expected them to spontaneously change or deliver a different outcome?
Today's ep is reflecting on this question.

The great man Craig Harper is back and on top of us discussing the fascinating concept of creating a 'silent island' where we could drop 100 people to live without the use of language or verbal communication for a year and study the impact it would have on relationships and lifestyle (my theory is it might eliminate a fair bit of bullsh*t and heartache), we also discuss the concept the life vs money. After reading Die With Zero recently I wanted to unpack some of my thoughts around how we are conditioned to think and behave with money rather than putting it under the microscope to ensure we get the best out of life at the best times of our lives (like when we are fit, able and actually have the desire to do certain things).

Mark LeBusque is back for a chat about what we love most... Yep, easter eggs. And change, of course. He's unpacking The 3 T's Of Change concept. Transactional, transitional and transformational, and what makes each one crucial and in what circumstances. The thing I love about Mark is the depth in which he can lead us around the most simplistic topics. Yet again, I loved this chat... But I'd definitely hide my Easter eggs well if Mark came to visit!

In this episode which I originally recorded for The Code 9 Foundation podcast, I had the pleasure of chatting with Deb Richardson, a veteran of the Victoria Police. Deb's experiences and her story are nothing short of remarkable.
As a young police officer in her early twenties, Deb was present during the Russell Street Bombing in Melbourne on March 27, 1986, which tragically claimed the life of her colleague, Constable Angela Taylor. In a stroke of luck and a detail that has remained a mystery, Deb was fortunate enough to survive. Recently, Deb played an instrumental role in changing legislation to ensure that the person responsible for the attack will never be released from prison.
In another incredible turn of events, Deb fostered a young Ukrainian child named Yuri years ago. The circumstances surrounding their meeting were unbelievable, and Deb has since reunited with Yuri in the wake of the recent Ukraine conflict. This reunion inspired Deb to rally support and produce a large number of "Yuri Bears," which she delivered to Poland and Ukraine as a symbol of hope and human spirit.
This conversation with Deb is one of my favorites, as she is a truly remarkable human being who has faced and overcome some terrifying obstacles.
