Seahawks Forever w/ Dan Viens episodes

  • Seahawks make two deals on 2nd day of free agency
The first day of free agency was a quiet one for the Seahawks as fans watched some of the biggest names on the offensive line go to the Chiefs, Chargers and Ravens. On Tuesday, Shaquill Griffin announced that he was heading for Jacksonville and Seattle responded by agreeing to a deal with former 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. Nathan, Eric and Kevin from the Seahawks Nest podcast join the show to say that Seattle may not be done at corner. We also discuss the two-year deal for Poona Ford who was expected to be tagged as a restricted free agent this offseason. Though three of the biggest offensive line targets came off the board on Monday, the Raiders made a significant cut on their offensive line that provides Seattle with another new target.  Plus, we talk about how the signing of Andy Dalton may have ended one of the biggest narratives in the national media over the past month.

  • 3 IN, 3 OUT: Targets to pursue and avoid in NFL free agency
Who should the Seattle Seahawks target in free agency and who should they avoid? With the start of the new league year this week, Clinton and Brandan pick which three free agents the Seahawks should sign in the coming weeks and three guys who we’d want veto power over John Schneider. We focus heavily on the offensive line, talk about some pass rushers to go after if Carlos Dunlap doesn't re-sign with the team, and also take a look at possibilities at cornerback. Running back is a big question mark if Chris Carson departs in free agency, but there is absolutely one name that Clinton wants to make sure the Seahawks avoid.

  • Robert Turbin wants to prove he can return to the NFL
Former Seattle Seahawks running back and Super Bowl 48 champion Robert Turbin joins the latest show to talk about his desire to get back into the NFL. The first step when it comes to getting back into the NFL is having some recent tape. He's now joining Fan Controlled Football to as part of that return path. Turbin says after dislocating his shoulder in 2018 while playing with the Colts, he has something to prove. Returning to the Seahawks in 2019 nearly gave him that chance and he says had the Seahawks won that final game regular season game against San Francisco that things would've been much different with Seattle having a first round bye. He also offers his thoughts on the reports of a rift between Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll.

  • What Seahawks fans need to know ahead of free agency
The new league year is a week and a half away and the Seattle Seahawks have some key roles to fill heading into the 2021 season. John P. Gilbert, deputy editor at Field Gulls, joins the show to talk about they key points Seattle Seahawks fans should know going into free agency. First off, we talk about how even if Russell Wilson is unhappy with the current situation, that Seattle fans should be so quick to move on from him. We discuss the salary cap and why there are different numbers about how much cap space Seattle has depending on your source of information. J.J. Watt recently went to a division rival. Are there any players recently cut or rumored to be cut who the Seahawks should be targeting? John sets our expectations on how exciting or boring free agency could be in the next few weeks.

  • The common thread among four Russell Wilson trade destinations
Russell Wilson's agent went on record last week saying that his client didn't want to be traded, but listed four teams he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause. Initially, the names seemed to have no connection to the kinds of concerns he's been voicing about the offensive line or wanting to have a voice in personnel decisions. It turns out that the four names do have one common thread: offensive-minded head coaches with a history of at least making the post-season. The six teams that also fall into that category, but clearly make sense to not be on a list of trade destinations, were the Rams, 49ers, Bucs, Chiefs, Packers and Colts. Anthony Nachreiner invites Brandan onto his show to discuss this and more.

Not only are we carrying 3 IN, 3 OUT into the offseason, we are now recording live before a studio audience. If you want to join in, download the Locker Room app and follow Seahawkra to get notified when we go live. We will also send notifications for anyone signed up at getintheflock.com.
For the first live episode we are talking Russell Wilson. In traditional fashion, we have three reasons why Russ will be staying in Seattle. However, Clinton had a thought as to why this situation could be a huge OUT for the Seahawks when it comes to free agency. We go to the flock in the second half of the show and get your thoughts, questions, and move to topics brought up by people who joined in on Locker Room.

  • 3 IN, 3 OUT: Blasting early offseason narratives and talking Fan Controlled Football with co-founder Patrick Dees
Clinton Bonner brings three early offseason narratives to the show and the reason why each scenario should be avoided. He says the Seahawks don't need to pay a high-priced veteran to come to Seattle to be the number three option behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. We now have multiple data points regarding paying aging tight ends to come to Seattle, so avoid that too. Finally, we discuss why cutting really good veteran players to simply create cap space is nonsensical.
In the second half of the show, Patrick Dees, co-founder and Chief Gaming Officer of Fan Controlled Football, joins the show to discuss the story behind the newest professional football league. Dees began his tech career with a business he described as the "Kelly Blue Book of cell phones" and that somehow led him to where he's now in the broadcast booth getting punched in the kidney by Marshawn Lynch. That moment immediately led to another legendary Marshawn moment that made the rounds on Twitter.

  • Offensive weapons for Seattle to consider from the Senior Bowl
With a new offensive coordinator in Seattle, it could mean a shift in the type of talent they’re looking for at certain skill positions. Looking at the Rams and the type of players they’ve put in the slot, E.J. Snyder is back on this show with some wide receivers who stood out at the Senior Bowl. He talks about why Clemson Tigers receiver Amari Rodgers is at the top of his list and how Demetric Felton stands out as a player who was playing out of position as a running back in college. Mid- to late-round options like D’Wayne Eskridge and Cade Johnson could be players to watch as well.
We also explore different routes Seattle may take at tight end and potential power backs in the draft like Rhamondre Stevenson of Oklahoma and Trey Sermon of Ohio State. If Chris Carson leaves this offseason, we should expect Pete Carroll to continue to want a back to fill that physical role.
