Seahawks Forever w/ Dan Viens

What's the biggest need for the Seahawks going into the 2021 NFL Draft? Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network is leaning heavy toward the Seahawks improving their offensive line in the draft. Where Seattle sits at the end of the second round, Tony thinks that a future starting right tackle may be available to them at that spot. We also talk about some centers, cornerbacks and wide receivers. A positive note about Seattle's situation is that he says this might be the draft out of the last 10 years to be void of selections. He also says Seahawks fans don't have much to worry about with who the Jets take versus what Seattle has in Jamal Adams. Plus, his thoughts on the 49ers situation with the third overall pick.

The NFL approved some rule changes this past week, including the ability for players to wear a wider variety of numbers. What did the owners get right with the new rules and what were some missed opportunities? Clinton and Brandan talk about the INs and OUTs of the latest changes and why the biggest OUT was something that didn't even appear to be considered for a rule change this round. The show was recorded live via the Locker Room app and Josh comes onto the show to talk about the selection for the Seahawks in the second round. If you'd like to join in on a future chat you can go to lockerroom.app/seahawkra.

EJ Snyder of Bootleg Football is back on the show to talk NFL Draft. In the last episode we focused primarily on cornerback, but there was one more guy who should definitely be on the Seahawks radar defensively. Kicking off the look at this year's draft class on offense, we start at offensive tackle because of the depth of talent available. Could a player like Sam Cosmi fall to the Seahawks in the middle of the second round? If so, would they stay put or move back knowing that would be their best chance to slide back and get more picks?

Seattle is bringing back Ethan Pocic, but there are some centers in the 2nd and 4th round who could come in to compete and perhaps even start in the case of Stanford's Drew Dalman. Lastly we take a look at wide receivers, with a particular focus on special teams ability, as well as a player who could fill the David Moore role nicely. We also talk about a variety of running backs who could be available for the Seahawks late in the draft.

Through the first half of the 2020 season, the Seahawks offense was on pace to shatter the franchise record books in a number of areas. But things slowed down in the second half of the year as teams made adjustments. Tyler Lockett, for his part, was still able to become the first player in franchise history to record 100 catches. Along with DK Metcalf, Lockett was part of just the second pairing of receivers to both top 1,000 yards in a season. After signing his 4-year, $69.2 million contract extension, Lockett spoke to the media about his career to this point and what he's looking forward to under Seattle's new offensive coordinator.

Seattle Seahawks fans can often list their favorite and least favorite draft choices over the years. But how about the trades that had some of the best (and worst) outcomes? These are not the best trades ever, these are the trades that specifically occurred on draft day. We went live in the Locker Room app this week to pick some of the moves that resulted in some of the best players in Seahawks history coming to Seattle.

For every good move, however, there comes the bad. In the Holmgren era, the Seahawks traded down for a player who brings up bad memories when it comes to Super Bowl 40. If they had stayed put and perhaps taken a future Hall of Famer on defense, who knows how much differently that game would have turned out? We even go back to the 1970s for a move backwards that could have changed the course for the early years of the franchise. We also bring in a couple listeners who tuned in live to talk about the hall of fame chances for a trio of Seahawks past and present.

The Seattle Seahawks continue to add to the defensive line as Aldon Smith signed with the team on Thursday. How could he be used on a defensive line that's already added Kerry Hyder and re-signed Carlos Dunlap and Benson Mayowa? Samuel Gold of Sam's Film Room joins the show to talk about the latest signing. Sam also talks about his breakdown of Shane Waldron and the Sean McVay offense and what those dynamics could bring to the Seahawks offense in 2021. Does Seattle have the personnel to implement this type of system without wholesale changes? Can Russell Wilson make some adjustments to his game from what we've seen historically? There may be some questions we just have to wait until the season starts before we have a clear answer.

News came out following Gabe Jackson's press conference that in addition to coming to Seattle via trade, he'd also be adding an additional year to his contract with the Seahawks. Jackson, who played college football with K.J. Wright, is excited about the possibility of playing with his former teammate, but admits that he's not sure how things will play out for K.J. The former Raider also explains a confrontation he had on the field last season that got him ejected from a game.
