Seahawks Forever w/ Dan Viens

Russell Wilson was on the Dan Patrick show this week and was asked about being sacked nearly 400 times in his career. After watching Patrick Mahomes run around in the Super Bowl, focusing on the offensive line the offseason definitely seemed to be at the top of his mind for the interview. Considering the needs at the position, EJ Snyder, of Bootleg Football and senior draft analyst at Windy City Gridiron, joins the show to take a look at several of the players who stood out at the Senior Bowl. With Duane Brown nearing the age of Walter Jones' retirement, Dillon Radunz is a tackle who could be considered early on in the draft. We discuss Quinn Meinerz who stood out at the Senior Bowl in more ways than one. Snyder also says Trey Smith is a guard/tackle who isn't getting enough hype after his performance. He also has thoughts on David Moore, Creed Humphrey and Landon Dickerson as well as some other potential options for the Seahawks.

Thanks to everyone who participated and voted in the 2020 edition of The Gullies! The winners were announced on the same day as the NFL Honors, but as we all know players from the Seahawks hold these awards in nearly equal regards. There were eight categories available for voting and while most of the winners were clear-cut from the start, there’s one player in particular who came away with the most awards overall. Mookie Alexander joins Brandan Schulze to talk about the winners, the controversy generated within the community surrounding the best defensive play of the year, and even a player who made a jump into 3rd place following the release of the announcement of the awards days ago.

The NFL season is over and Tom Brady took another trip to the podium to hold up another Lombardi after a 31-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Anthony Nachreiner talks to Brandan about his Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the title, what it means for Brady's status among all-time athletes and how things could get tougher for Patrick Mahomes in the seasons ahead.  We talk about Andy Reid's inability to make adjustments and some mistakes right before the end of the first half that led to a huge deficit for the Chiefs to try and overcome. In Seahawks news, Russell Wilson was honored as the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

Since the last discussion on the Nach on Sports, the Seahawks have hired Shane Waldron as the OC and the Rams have traded for Matt Stafford. While Stafford seems like an upgrade and Waldron may represent a shift toward offensive "balance," neither is a sure bet to take their team any further in 2021. Anthony Nachreiner talks to Brandan about the two moves as well as some of the interviews up at Field Gulls this week with current and former players. Plus we talk Super Bowl 55 and how Tampa Bay will need solid contributions from their run game and defensive line.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Shaquem Griffin joins the show to talk about his work in partnership with The Hartford and its Ability Equipped program. We also talk about the feeling in the locker room about winning the NFC West title this year. It may come as a surprise to know that there were only six players on the 2020 roster who were here in 2016 the last time the Seahawks won the division. On the offensive side of the ball, Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett and Luke Willson were the only three. Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, and Jarran Reed were the only three on defense. Shaquem also talked about why special teams was so consistent this season and the work the team had to do on the sidelines to pump eachother up without fans in the stadium this season.

Lofa Tatupu, former Seahawks linebacker (2005-2010) and assistant linebackers coach (2015-2016), joins the latest episode of the Field Gulls podcast to take a look back on this season and talk about ways the offense can improve under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. We kick off the show talking linebackers as we discuss Bobby Wagner getting into the territory of becoming a first-ballot Hall of Fame linebacker. Lofa says K.J. Wright deserves to return to the Seahawks after having one of the best seasons of his career. When you consider Thomas Davis is retiring after a 16-year career, and came out of the same 2005 draft class as Lofa, some fans may be underestimating how many more seasons K.J. can offer this Seahawks team. Finally, we talk Super Bowl 55 and Lofa's pick to win on Sunday.

It's a somewhat non-traditional episode of 3 IN, 3 OUT this week. However, the power of the 'three' remains as Clinton Bonner looks at three areas of focus for the Seahawks offense now that Shane Waldron has been hired as the Seahawks new offensive coordinator. Those three areas are scheme, slot, and speed. How do these fit together and what are the specific details? You'll want to tune in to find out. While these are the main questions for the Seahawks this offseason, some of the other divisional rivals have bigger questions they're facing.

The Los Angeles Rams appear to have addressed their biggest question about what to do about Jared Goff this offseason, but is the addition of Matt Stafford going to be a significant enough upgrade to offset some of the pieces they'll be losing in free agency. Left with a second round pick and two late round picks, will that give them enough young talent to remain competitive in the division? With that question answered, now we'll all be waiting to see what the 49ers will do to address their issues at QB.

With several names being discussed as a potential offensive coordinator for the Seahawks, Anthony Nachreiner talks to Brandan about the team's search. Is going to a team with an established quarterback and a coach who seems to know exactly the kind of offense he wants to run a desirable position? What is better, an established name in coaching or an unproven young coach with potential? The NFL Championship Round games are this Sunday. With the four teams remaining, we discuss which Super Bowl matchup we'd prefer.
