You do not want to be hiring the first good looking CV to come through in the applications because you are desperate, as Tony says, “it’s better to be unhappily single, than it is to be unhappily married”. Employment laws are making it very difficult to get rid of bad staff, for that reason it’s better to stay busy for an extra couple of weeks until you find a good employee, than it is to rush in and get stuck with a bad one.
