  • The Transformative Power of Hope (Using Faith, Hope, and Optimism for Healing)
Spoken by:  Michelle Obama, POP Buchanan, Jocko Willink, Tyrese Gibson, Martyn Ford, Dwayne Johnson
    WHEN ALL HOPE IS LOST
Sometimes horrible things happen to good people. Life isn't fair. And it can be heart wrenching. And if you're having one of those dark days, it's okay. It's okay. It's okay to feel that darkness. When challenges and issues come back to back to back to back, and it seems like, "Something is after me, something is attacking me, something is attacking my journey." Look for the lesson in it all. You will grow through what you go through. The question is, are you willing to go through it? When those bad things happen, what are you going to do? Are you gonna let this horrible situation dictate the way you feel and the way you handle it? Are you gonna fall over and fall down, and fall apart? Or are you going to face this issue with courage, and with resolution? You know darkness. So embrace. Embrace that darkness. Don't look away from it, own it. Step up to the challenge. No matter what you face, start walking. Take that step. Every day, no matter what you are facing, get up and start walking. And never surrender. And remember that even in the most wretched times, when you face darkness yourself, no matter how bad things get, remember not to stop, remember not to pause, remember not to hesitate, remember to put one foot in front of the other, take that first step, and start walking. And we will fight. And in fighting, we will win. And if not the battle, and if not the war, we will win because our spirit, it will never surrender. And that is the ultimate victory. To hold your head high. And even in the face of inescapable defeat, to stand and to fight, that is to win. Don't allow yourself a switch off button. I know there's always an answer. No matter how dark that place may be, there's always a way out. You just gotta keep going. Hold on to that fundamental quality of faith. Have faith. That on the other side of your pain is something good. Thank you Ben Lionel Scott Full Video: https://youtu.be/bqVxBT-Z4yE Michelle Obama Final Speech of Hope: https://youtu.be/vlPx0lqmDRs

  • Motivational Mix: Sober is Dope Radio Vol. 10 with Quotes (Classic)
    Top 10 Motivational Rocky Quotes
Going in one more round when you don’t think you can – that’s what makes all the difference in your life.
Nobody owes nobody nothin’. You owe yourself.
“Every champion was once a contender who refused to give up.” Every once in awhile a person comes along who defies the odds, who defies logic, and fulfills an incredible dream.
“Until you start believing in yourself, you ain’t gonna have a life.” “To beat me, he’s gonna have to kill me, and to kill me, he’s gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me, and to do that, he’s gotta be willing to die himself and I don’t know if he’s ready to do that.”
It’s your right to listen to your gut, it ain’t nobody’s right to say no after you earned the right to be where you want to be and do what you want to do!
You’re gonna have to go through hell, worse than any nightmare you’ve ever dreamed. But when it’s over, I know you’ll be the one standing.
You know what you have to do. Do it.
If you’re willing to go through all the battling you got to go through to get where you want to get, who’s got the right to stop you?
It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
Sylvester Stallone based the story of Rocky on his own struggles to become an actor. He went through huge obstacle to get to the top of Hollywood, but he never gave up. He pitched the script for Rocky to producers more than 150 times before someone even showed interest. During that time, he was so broke that he had to sleep at the bus terminal and things got so bad that he even sold his dog for $50. Finally, a producer offered to buy the script, didn’t want Stallone to star in the movie. Stallone refused the $300,000 offer because he believed he was the best fit for the role of Rocky Balboa. After many more months of pressing, he was eventually allowed to star in his own film. Rocky went on to earn $225 million at the box office. The rest is history. Rocky is arguably the most motivational character of all time. The Rocky series are full of motivating quotes should inspire everyone to turn their dreams into reality.

    What Is Depression?
Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.
Depression symptoms can vary from mild to severe and can include:
Feeling sad or having a depressed mood
Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
Changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
Loss of energy or increased fatigue
Increase in purposeless physical activity (e.g., inability to sit still, pacing, handwringing) or slowed movements or speech (these actions must be severe enough to be observable by others)
    Feeling worthless or guilty
Difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions
    Thoughts of death or suicide

Entering middle age can lead to restlessness and boredom. Here's how to make the best of your midlife malaise, no bright-red sports car required.
    Warning
Seek help from a counselor or therapist if you are exhibiting signs of serious depression.
    Step 1: Acknowledge your issues
If you're having problems with your career or relationships, don't sweep them under the rug. Acknowledge what's bothering you so you can deal with a crisis before it becomes a catastrophe.
    Step 2: Reinvigorate your relationships
Reinvigorate your relationships by spending more time with your significant other, children, and friends, and less time at work. The transition into midlife can provide a great opportunity to reflect on what's really important.
    Tip
Don't do anything rash, like leaping into an extramarital affair or buying an expensive new car. Impulsive actions may make you feel better in the short term, but they won't address any of the causes of your crisis.
    Step 3: Exercise
Eat well and exercise to combat the health concerns that often go along with getting older. Join a gym, practice yoga, or take up a new sport. A regular fitness regimen will keep you energized, feeling good about your body, and ready to tackle this next phase in life.
    Step 4: Get spiritual
Get in touch with your spiritual side, whether it's practicing your religious faith, communing with nature, indulging your inner artist, or volunteering in your community. In a time when you may be searching for meaning in your life, these endeavors will provide some answers.
    Step 5: Try new things
Channel your restlessness into productivity. Take a class, go back to school, try new foods, read books you normally wouldn't touch, or plan a trip. Midlife can be a tremendous time for personal growth.
    Step 6: Stay positive
Stay positive and focus on your strengths. As midlife approaches, feelings of regret and failure are not uncommon. Instead of reliving past disappointments, draw on your successes to lead you forward. You've got the best years of your life ahead of you.
    Did You Know?
A study found that women are twice as likely as men to feel optimistic about the future at middle age.

  • Reprogramming Rock Bottom, Relapse, Recovery - Relapse after 20 Years (A Walk in the Park with POP)
Welcome to the Sober is Dope podcast with your host, POP Buchanan. We are excited to bring you our Winter edition of, “A Walk in the Park” with POP Buchanan. This episode is intended to motivate our audience on the importance of getting back on the wagon immediately after a relapse. This is a reminder that we don’t have to accept old programming on hitting rock bottom and rock bottom being the prerequisite to healing. This episode is to encourage anyone in active addiction or in a current relapse to get back into treatment sooner than later. We dedicate this episode to our anonymous friend that recently relapsed after 20 years. Below are facts about relapse and the stages of relapse. Good luck.
    The Stages of Relapse
Relapse is a process, it's not an event. In order to understand relapse prevention you have to understand the stages of relapse. Relapse starts weeks or even months before the event of physical relapse. In this page you will learn how to use specific relapse prevention techniques for each stage of relapse. There are three stages of relapse.
    • Emotional relapse
    • Mental relapse
    • Physical relapse
    Emotional Relapse
In emotional relapse, you're not thinking about using. But your emotions and behaviors are setting you up for a possible relapse in the future.
The signs of emotional relapse are: Restless, Irritable and Discontent
    • Anxiety
    • Intolerance
    • Anger
    • Defensiveness
    • Mood swings
    • Isolation
    • Not asking for help
    • Not going to meetings
    • Poor eating habits
    • Poor sleep habits
The signs of emotional relapse are also the symptoms of post-acute withdrawal. If you understand post-acute withdrawal it's easier to avoid relapse, because the early stage of relapse is easiest to pull back from. In the later stages the pull of relapse gets stronger and the sequence of events moves faster.
Relapse prevention at this stage means recognizing that you're in emotional relapse and changing your behavior. Recognize that you're isolating and remind yourself to ask for help. Recognize that you're anxious and practice relaxation techniques. Recognize that your sleep and eating habits are slipping and practice self-care.
If you don't change your behavior at this stage and you live too long in the stage of emotional relapse you'll become exhausted, and when you're exhausted you will want to escape, which will move you into mental relapse.
Practice self-care. The most important thing you can do to prevent relapse at this stage is take better care of yourself. Think about why you use. You use drugs or alcohol to escape, relax, or reward yourself. Therefore you relapse when you don't take care of yourself and create situations that are mentally and emotionally draining that make you want to escape.
For example, if you don't take care of yourself and eat poorly or have poor sleep habits, you'll feel exhausted and want to escape. If you don't let go of your resentments and fears through some form of relaxation, they will build to the point where you'll feel uncomfortable in your own skin. If you don't ask for help, you'll feel isolated. If any of those situations continues for too long, you will begin to think about using. But if you practice self-care, you can avoid those feelings from growing and avoid relapse. (Reference: www.AddictionsAndRecovery.org
    Mental Relapse
It gets harder to make the right choices as the pull of addiction gets stronger.
Techniques for Dealing with Mental Urges
In mental relapse there's a war going on in your mind. Part of you wants to use, but part of you doesn't. In the early phase of mental relapse you're just idly thinking about using. But in the later phase you're definitely thinking about using.
The signs of mental relapse are:
    • Thinking about people, places, and things you used with
    • Glamorizing your past use
    • Lying
    • Hanging out with old using friends
    • Fantasizing about using
    • Thinking about relapsing
    • Planning your relapse around other people's schedules

  • Tips for Staying Sober on New Year’s Day Stay Clean and Sober During New Years (Please Share) 2021
Staying Sober on New Year’s Day
Tips To Stay Sober Sober During New Years
Check out Sober is Dope Podcast for more Resources: https://linktr.ee/Soberisdope
New Year’s is known to be one of the most celebrated holidays of the year. It is common for people to drink alcohol in excess while at a New Year’s Eve party, nightclub, or event. Even though it is a tradition to bring in the New Year with a toast, it doesn’t have to be your tradition if you have a problem with drugs or alcohol.
Every year, thousands of people use poor judgement and partake in dangerous levels of alcohol consumption. The holiday has become synonymous with high rates of drunk driving accidents, and an even higher rate of arrests for driving under the influence.
Drugs are also a part of many people’s celebrations for the New Year. Marijuana is commonly used to celebrate, as well as harder “party” drugs like Cocaine.
Chances are, if you are struggling with maintaining your sobriety, these types of parties have the potential to cause you to relapse. Peer pressure is powerful. Seeing your friends and relatives using drugs and alcohol can be a powerful influence over you.
Ways to Help You Stay Sober on New Year’s Eve
We have compiled ways to help you get have fun on New Year’s Eve and avoid a relapse at the same time. Here are the top 10 ways to celebrate the New Year if you are in recovery:

    1. Attend a New Year’s celebration hosted by an AA/NA meeting. Many local meetings will host a party to celebrate the holiday. By attending, you can celebrate with people that share your desire to remain sober.
    2. Go to an event that isn’t focused on alcohol.
    3. Stay home. If everyone is going out, maybe you should stay in. Alone time is often underrated. Binge a Netflix series you’ve been wanting to see, cook yourself some comfort food, and enjoy some time to yourself.
    4. Host a party of your own. When you host a party, you can do it on your own terms. Invite people that you met at a local meeting, peers form your treatment program, sober friends, and supportive family members. A gathering of like-minded sober people will ensure holiday fun without any of the substances that can jeopardize your progress.
    5. Find a fireworks event.
    6. Go to the party with a friend. Maintaining sobriety can be as easy as bringing a friend to the party.
    7. Practice saying “no, thank you” to alcohol before the party. If you decide to attend a New Year’s Eve party, think about how you will respond to being offered a drink before you go.
    8. Celebrate New Year’s Day, not the Eve. New Years Day can sometimes offer more enjoyment than the night before. You can find other fun daytime events and activities that you may find more pleasurable than being exposed to the “drink-fest” of New Year’s Eve.
By planning alternate events, hosting your own, or finding things to do that won’t be focused on alcohol, you will increase your odds of having a fun holiday that will not cause a setback in your recovery process. Reflect on the progress you have made in your recovery journey. Don’t let one night of unnecessary temptation distract you from your goal of living a healthy, sober lifestyle. #sober #newyears #newyearseve #stayingsober #addiction
