Can you feel everything deeply and still not be knocked over by it? That is the whole trick, and it is not the same thing as going cold.
We admire the person who stays cold and gets on with business, but nobody actually wants to be disconnected. The deeper you let yourself feel, the more joy is available at the other end too. There is an unhealthy version, where you become a victim of your own empathy. Empathy is you feeling them. Compassion is about us, and what could we do.
One thing to try: Name what you are feeling right now, in one word. We are always feeling something, and mostly we ignore it.
