Ricky Lightfoot is a trail and fell runner from the Northern Britain. Over the years he has raced in and won some of the most prestigious trail and ultra races in the world whilst balancing life as a firefighter and a father. Ricky joins us on the Sweat Elite Podcast to discuss his life running the fells of England, as well as across the globe. We delve into his experiences in some of his stand-out races, as well as his recent participation in the Salomon Phantasm 24 which was a 24-hour four-person relay to celebrate the launch of Salomon’s new carbon plated road shoe, the Phantasm CF. After returning from a big stint in Kapchorwa, Jake Smith has returned to the podcast to tell us all about his time training in the Ugandan Highlands. This came about after Jake’s signing with NN Running Team, who have a squad of athletes training there which includes WR holder over 5,000m and 10,000m - Joshua Cheptegei. This was Jake’s first block of training at altitude, and he said that this combined with the relentless hills of the Kapchorwa saw him make massive progress during his five weeks over there. In this episode we discuss the training, diet, terrain, group dynamics of the Ugandan athletes, as well as the plentiful lessons that Jake took away from his experience training with the world’s best.
