  • BITES **** -- "The Philosopher's Story" by Kevin Cordi with guest Teresa Love
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a regular episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.

What's a story that you've learned a lot from? On today's BITE, Kevin Cordi shares "The Philosopher's Story" where a young man tires to find wisdom in a philosopher's words. Sam is joined in the studio by Teresa Love.

Through tales from David Vanadia, Simon Brooks, Mark Binder, and Laurie Allen we hope to explore some of the many interesting and nuanced repercussions of being honest.

  • It Could Happen!
In a famous poem by Emily Dickenson it is stated that “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, that never stops at all.” Hope is such an important part of life. Whether it shows up in the hopeful ear of a father during a football game, the hope of future uses of old supplies, or the hope of better connections and familial relationships- hope is integral to all of it. Hope is what keeps us going through difficult times and it is what mends us back together. Hope sees us through intense, difficult trials like losing a loved one, as well as simple problems such as deciding whether or not a pan is worth keeping. Just the simple idea that the future will be better, the possibility of a vibrant story yet to come, can be all that’s needed to continue on.
On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
    Radio Family Journal: Piano Lessons
Daily Mix: Steven Kapp Perry discusses “Someone Else’s Story”
Story Spotlight: “Emerson’s Chevrolet” by Willy Claflin in Goat Whisperer (11:01)
    Storytime:
“It Could Happen!” by Dolores Hydock in It Could Happen! (19:14)
“Story 7” by Catherine Conant in Timp 2017 (4:46)
