In today’s episode, I am joined by the incredible Alexandra Gilbert as we discuss how to thrive in your career with ADHD.
After spending her career working in program and leadership development, Alexandra decided to start a consulting and coaching business to help adults (like herself) with learning disabilities and/or ADHD who have been struggling in their careers. Alexandra’s business, Cape-Able Consulting LLC, was created to help her clients navigate their day-to-day workloads so that they feel supported and are able to reach their highest potential.
In this episode, we dive into the topic of neurodiversity, specifically ADHD, and how understanding your own brain functions can lead to better alignment with the right environments and roles for personal success.
This is such an important conversation, especially as ADHD can manifest in many different ways and often goes undiagnosed, particularly in women. This can result in individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges, all of which may stem from masking their ADHD symptoms.
As you transition through different life stages or career changes, it's essential for you to acknowledge your unique needs, advocate for yourself, and seek the appropriate support to thrive in your chosen environments.
What you will learn:
- How to embrace your superpowers – We discuss the superpowers of those with ADHD, such as problem-solving and connecting the dots in unique ways, which can be leveraged in the workplace or as entrepreneurs.
- The three types of ADHD - Inattentive, hyperactive, and combined, and how these tend to show up differently for individuals, making diagnosis tricky, especially for women. The discussion emphasizes the importance of increased awareness for those struggling to find their place in their career and exploring their own neurodiversity, and how to find the career support you need.
- The concept of "best principles vs. best practices" - Highlighting the importance of individualized approaches in overcoming personal challenges. We share a unique method for identifying one's strengths and weaknesses to help you narrow down the skills that you excel in and how to apply them to your professional lives.
