As always, I want to start today’s show with a personal “thank you” to the folks who gave the show a five-start rating in iTunes this week.  Your rating and your subscriptions to the show is what helps new listeners find the show.

“Thank you” KrisCakes – who I know is Kris Wood – and Web1026 for taking the time to leave reviews this week.

    The 3 A's:

  • #71: THE KINDNESS CARD

The best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love. –William Wordsworth

    The truth about kindness is….
    1)    That we often rush it

    2)    That in our overscheduled lives we often discount its value and power

    3)    That we are more kind to others than to ourselves – to the extent that we are actually unkind to ourselves

    4)    That we underestimate the inherent need the world has for more kindness

    5)    That kindness deepens our connections – to the world, to others, to strangers, to love, to life
     ______________________
What would happen if you lived in such a way that you realized that your kindness towards yourself DOES in fact have a direct impact on others?
       ______________________
Kindness matters.  It opens our chasms of compassion and prepares us to participate in the potential of life.

The best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love. –William Wordsworth

Today my family honored my grandmother Ellen Madeline Pollin, and though it was a small ceremony, the reoccurring statement said is that she did everything for everyone without ever complaining or even talking much.  She was a quiet woman, but inexhaustibly loving, always looking for someone to help or serve or love.  My aunt and uncle – who spoke at the ceremony – both said the same thing of her: she did countless, nameless and unremembered acts of love.  Those acts – the noticed and unnoticed – paved her life and have been remembered as her legacy. Remember, we are remembered for what which we most consistently do and most fervently believe in.  How you live now affects the legacy you will leave with the world in the future.

    Some quotes on kindness:

Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see. – Mark Twain

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. –Aesop

A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money. –John Ruskin

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness giving creates love. –Lao Tzu

Truth is a deep kindness that teaches us to be content in our everyday life and share with the people the same happiness. –Khalil Gibran

[[Three ways to immediately start using your KINDNESS CARD]]
(ONE). Name this month – the next 30 days – a “month of kindness”.  Do one thing kind towards (a) yourself (b) someone you love (c) a coworker every day for the next 30 days.

(TWO). Remember that, like Ellen, kindness is often displayed in nameless, unremembered acts.  Create a list of 20 ways you can increase your kindness in general.

OK, WHY ENTHUSIASM…10 REASONS WHY ENTHUSIASM ROCKS
First, some quotes to whet your appetite:

Enthusiasm moves the world. –Arthur Balfour, 19th-century British statesman
Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. –Samuel Ullman, 19th Century American poet
Enthusiasm is the mother of effort, and without it, nothing great was ever achieved. –Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great 19th Century poet
There is a real magic in enthusiasm. It spells the difference between mediocrity and accomplishment. –Norman Vincent Peale, 20th Century American Clergyman
Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait. The grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas. –Henry Ford

    …10 REASONS WHY ENTHUSIASM ROCKS

Enthusiasm is contagious and it brings out the best in you and in those you meet.

Enthusiasm is attractive to others and makes you more enjoyable to be around.

    Enthusiasm makes life more fun.

    Enthusiasm communicates powerfully.

    Enthusiasm gets things done.

    Enthusiasm enhances creativity.

Enthusiasm is energizing and lifts up others.

Enthusiasm opens your mind to new possibilities.

Enthusiasm empowers you to solve problems more effectively.

    10. Enthusiasm has the ability to persuade.

    AND......THE ENTHUSIASM FORMULA...

The formula for enthusiasm is simple:

[Permission to enjoy] + [permission to be oneself] + [permission to be optimistic]

    = enthusiasm.
