Straight talk on this common issue that I see in pursuer-distancer couples, especially preoccupied women with avoidant men. Often your issues with the family mask your deeper relationship issues. If you do successfully spend your time and energy to win them over... ironically you recognize that they weren't the issue at all. The fact that your partner didn't defend you was always the real issue.

Many men underestimate how much of a turnoff defensiveness is to women. Even if a woman wanted to have sex with you that evening, an interaction where you are defensive will turn that incipient desire into a cold icy front. Defensiveness is a form of dishonesty, and dishonesty triggers a feeling of lack of safety in women, children, and other men as well. Nobody wants to be on your team in any way if you can't admit fault, because this is a dangerous situation to be in. More on this topic today!

I often see wealthier couples get a second home as a "fun new thing" to do as a family. At first they think of this extra space as a way to solve their unspoken problem of not wanting to spend time together, as they can take turns having some alone time at the second home.
