In today’s episode, Jimmy presents a NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN episode of his show JIMMY MAKES SCIENCE SIMPLE (@jimmymakessciencesimple) to outline important new research he wanted you to know about. It’s a study published in the September 2021 issue of the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled “The carbohydrate-insulin model: a physiological perspective on the obesity pandemic”: https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/advance-article/doi/10.1093/ajcn/nqab270/6369073
This study presents a virtual who’s who in the keto nutritional health research space with some very familiar names, including Dr. David Ludwig, Dr. Arne Astrup, Dr. Ronald Krauss, Gary Taubes, Dr. Jeff Volek, Dr. Eric Westman, Dr. William Yancy, and more! They propose a series of studies to challenge the “eat less, move more” theory to compare it with the carbohydrate-insulin model for obesity. These researchers make a compelling argument that a low-glycemic load diet (low-carb, ketogenic nutrition) should be seriously examined to help resolve the obesity pandemic. It’s a thought-provoking perspective that you’ll hear all about in this podcast.

In this episode, Jimmy chats with one of the fans of his work named Marty Brandon, a keto coach who has become frustrated by what he has seen in his clients desiring weight and health changes. Marty believes that we as individuals need to take back our own health because the healthcare system in America has failed to put us on the path to healing. Tune in as Jimmy and Marty discuss what’s wrong and how we can reverse the trend of chronic disease and obesity in the United States.
Marty Brandon coaches people through his YouTube channel to lose weight and keep it off using a Ketogenic (lifestyle) approach. Eating real whole food and eliminating “Junk food,” processed food and carbohydrates has changed his life and health, and it can do the same for you. He encourages Keto for weight loss and the health benefits and exercise to increase your healthfulness once you are able and feel good enough to start. Marty takes a little different approach to some things like “cheating” and diet drinks than some because he finds people do better easing into some of the smaller changes (that have a lesser impact on their health) as their journey progresses. Marty believes you will tighten up these things later, for now lets do the big things that get the big health and weight loss results.
