In this episode, Rachael Moss talks with patient advocate Elisabeth Schuler about how to make the most of your visits, how to go in feeling prepared, and how to manage the logistics of a diagnosis without feeling like you're in over your head.
Patient advocates can be a loved one, or a hired professional who helps sort through a diagnosis, looks into treatment options, points toward resources, spends time talking with healthcare companies, and is available for the questions that brief doctor's visits may not answer.
Patrick Quillin, PhD, RD, CNS, is a well-known expert in the area of nutrition and cancer. He has 40 years experience as a clinical nutritionist, of which 10 years were spent as the Vice President of Nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), where he worked with thousands of cancer patients in multiple hospital settings.
According to Quillin, cancer has escalated from a once obscure disease to a leading cause of death worldwide. Chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery may reduce tumor burden but do not change the underlying causes of the disease.
In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Rachael Moss speaks with breast cancer thriver, Hoda Alfaqih. She shares her story of the life that led to her diagnosis, and how she has changed and grown since tackling it head-on.

He is also a Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Cancer Scientist. Owonikoko received his medical degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Nigeria in 1991 and a doctoral degree in Anatomic Pathology from the Heinrich Heine University, Dusseldorf, Germany in 2000. He has been on faculty at Emory University since 2008 and has focused on lung cancer, thyroid cancer as well as early phase drug development.
Dan Rubin, ND, of Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the leading naturopathic physicians in the United States. His naturopathic oncology practice has been an integral part of the Phoenix metropolitan medical community for the past 20 years. A graduate of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) in 1997, Rubin founded the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP). The OncANP represented a revolution for the field of naturopathic oncology providing, for the first time, definition, validation, and standardization of the field of naturopathic oncology. Since that time Rubin has been an internationally recognized naturopathic oncologist.
In this episode, Rachael Moss speaks with Brandon LaGreca LAc, MAcOM about the importance of mindset when it comes to cancer.
Brandon LaGreca is a licensed acupuncturist in Wisconsin who is nationally certified in Oriental medicine. In 2015, he was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Eight months later, he had a complete remission following an integrative medicine protocol that included immunotherapy. This was achieved without the use of chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.
LaGreca also shares his thoughts at www.EmpoweredPatientBlog.com.
In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Ralph Moss speaks with Will LaValley, MD, about his personalized approach to treating cancer. Dr. LaValley is a leading practitioner of Molecular Integrative Oncology (MIO), a science-based approach to integrative cancer treatment. As he states on his website, "Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery are an important part of most cancer treatments. Dr. LaValley's integrative, personalized protocols are the other half of cancer treatment."

In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Ralph Moss talks integrative oncology with Keith Block, MD.
It is difficult to imagine the field of integrative oncology without pioneer, Dr. Keith Block. Based in the Chicago area for over 40 years ago, Block and his wife, Penny Block, PhD, innovated the use of the best of "alternative medicine" for cancer treatments combined with standard practices of the time. Fast forward to today and he has established himself as a preeminent scholar on the use of foods and food supplements for cancer in combination with conventional treatments.
Antioxidants in particular have been the source of considerable disagreement in the scientific community, with some doctors claiming that they undermine the effectiveness of conventional treatments. However, Block has shown through his scholarly research and his own medical practice that there is no pattern of a negative impact on patients' health, and in fact, show a variety of profound benefits.
The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment in Skokie fights cancer by addressing the underlying molecular accidents that initiate and support it. A recognized pioneer in integrative cancer treatment, the Block Center sets the standard in the U.S. for the integration of science-based strategies that, together, can help you beat the odds and put "life over cancer" (the title of his book).
Block is a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of Miami School of Medicine in Coral Gables. He did his residency at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He was a disciple of Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD, author of Confessions of a Medical Heretic. Block is the founding editor-in-chief of the medical journal, Integrative Cancer Therapies, and is the author of 94 PubMed-indexed journal articles.
In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Dr. Moss interviews Dr. Parmar about his cancer clinics in Canada, and the improvements to survival rates from hyperthermia treatments.
Gurdev Parmar, ND, is the Co-founder and Medical Director of the Integrated Health Clinic (IHC), which he runs with his wife and partner, Karen Parmar, ND.
IHC is now, after 20 years, the largest naturopathic clinic in Canada, having treated over 15,000 people with cancer. The clinic specializes in hyperthermia using technology from Germany that Dr. Parmar successfully got federally approved in both Canada and Mexico.
Dr. Parmar has published an extensive study showing that overall survival significantly improved when cancer patients added hyperthermia to their standard of care.
Dr. Parmar recently opened a second location 10 minutes from the US border to better serve American patients looking for hyperthermia treatments. This new clinic opened its doors in White Rock, British Columbia on September 1st, 2021.
In this episode of The Moss Report Podcast, Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. speaks with Raymond Chang, M.D. about integrative oncology.
Dr. Chang has long been a champion of off-label or repurposed drugs, such as Metformin, as cancer treatments. In his book, Beyond the Magic Bullet, he advocated a cocktail approach to treating cancer using combinations of various non-toxic therapies. Dr. Chang, who is trained in both Western medicine and traditional Eastern practices, is a pioneer in the field of alternative cancer therapies. His practice includes the use of traditional Chinese herbs, cellular immunotherapy, anti-parasitics drugs, and other off-label treatments.
Dr. Chang received both his undergraduate and medical degree from Brown University and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). He is a fellow member of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Dr. Chang currently practices at Meridian Medical Group on the east side of Manhattan. For more information about his research and recent publications, visit his website, http://meridianmedical.org.
