Watching cricket(板球运动) was one of the best preferable(更好的) activities for me and still, it is. So, after watching a high voltage cricket match(高压板球比赛), I had a conversation with one of my intimate(亲密的) friends, Johan. He is one of my associates(伙伴) in the university and we live in the same place. He often visited me and he loved to enjoy cricket on television like me. To be honest, we are both a huge fan of this sport. We thought that it would be amazing to watch the game together. So, one morning, he visited me in my home to hang out while enjoying the game. We discussed the cricket match and many other issues related to this game. It was an exciting match between Australia and India. The match was about selection on the semifinal(半决赛) of a renowned series(著名的系列赛). The two cricket teams had struggled a lot to appear in this semifinal stage and the winner of the match would be eligible(有资格的） for playing in the final. Hence, both the team played hard to prove their worth. But there were some lacking(不足) in the Indian team and they finally lost the game with a huge difference to Australia. It was an interesting conversation for both of us. We sorted out(理清) the defects(缺点) of both the teams. India lost the game but it does not point that Indian team is less competent. They needed to focus on the game but they could not do so. On the other side, a couple of Australian players could not play well and lost more goals than the opponent team(对手). So, if they could have noticed on the issues, the score could climb more. Besides, the Indian team did not take Australia seriously and it appeared that they were overconfident(过分自信的;自负的) as the match was being held on their own ground. This was another mistake from their part.

I must say taking the spoken English course is one of the best decisions I made in my life. In today’s fierce(激烈的) competition and since globalization is a trend. Being familiar with other languages puts people on top(使人处于领先地位).

So, let me discuss a time when I took this course several years ago when I was a freshman in the university. I remembered this was an elective course(选修课) and I took it for half a year or a full semester. We had to practice English grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence construction, and many more in a 40-minute class. We had it twice a week, Wednesday and Thursday. During the course, our professor would make us do some role-playing so we could have a “feel” of how it was like to converse in a real scenario(真实场景中的对话是怎样的). She would create various scenarios so we could have a dialogue with our classmates. Sometimes, we were obliged to(必须) speak in front of the class and perform a monologue. It wasnerve-wracking(使人十分紧张的) but fun and educational. Furthermore, I found it interesting and exciting.

I must admit, it left a deep impression on me since I learned so much from it. It enhanced my ability to speak English fluently. In addition, it developed my self-esteem(培养了我的自尊心) since I can be confident in conversing with people from all walks of life(各行各业的人). Lastly, I believe that this course is a stepping stone toward a brighter future in my career(我职业生涯中通向更光明未来的垫脚石).

Quite frankly, I really love organizing events for different people, so it was challenging for me to pick one. So, I decided to organize a birthday party to surprise him. Everyone else knew about it except Ricky. The party took place at my home. My other family members helped me greatly to arrange the event. We did all the preparations that are needed for the event. We tried to keep it a secret and luckily, no one spoiled the surprise（拆穿秘密）. I was a bit worried at first, especially when we were putting up all the decorations at home. We all tried to be casual（随意） to prevent him from suspecting（怀疑）. I also ordered an eight-pound cake marking the birthday（纪念生日） and invited all the other relatives we had. Everyone arrived in due time（及时地） and it was a successful event in all terms. Ricky was happy indeed with the event and the gifts he received. Personally, I believe that all my efforts were paid off（值得的） after how ecstatic（入迷的） he was during the day. Although it was one of the most challenging preparations I had ever made, I was still able to pull it off（圆满完成） successfully with the help of my dear family.

Well, in my life, I have tasted so many cakes, like birthday cakes, anniversary(周年纪念) cakes and marriage cakes. But after reading the word “special cake”, there’s only one cake which I think is special.

So here I would talk about it. It is a red velvet cake（天鹅绒蛋糕）which is a red or red-brown layer（红棕色层） cake and it is usually topped with（上面加上了） yummy creamcheese frosting（好吃的奶油奶酪糖霜）. Unlike normal cakes, this cake has a blood red interior（血红色内层）.Its common ingredients（成分） include buttermilk（酪乳）, butter, cocoa（可可粉）, and flour for the cake, beetroot（甜菜） for the colour. As it is commonly served on Christmas or Valentine’s Day（情人节）, So I got chance to taste this cake last year.

I tasted it during our company's annual year-end party（年度年终晚会）. I believe this cake is very special because for the first time in my life, I tasted a 4 tier（层）cake in red. Moreover. What impressed me the most about this cake was that Red velvet cake was colored with beets（甜菜根）, instead of artificial food colouring（食用色素）.

Regarding this topic, I guess it pays to（值得） be a loyal customer. I have been subscribed （订阅，订购）to my internet provider for almost a decade and a half（十五年） now and receiving a free gift is something that doesn't happen to me every day. Obviously, it's something unexpected since they weren’t running any promotions at that moment nor did I receive any prior(事先，优先的） information about it. I didn't even join the raffle(抽奖） if that’s what you think.

To make sure it's not a hoax（恶作剧） or that it isn’t a scam（骗局）, I asked around and I guess I’m just one of the lucky ones. Accordingly（因此）, customers who have been with the company for 10 years are entitled to receive a brand-new smartphone as a token（标志） of appreciation for the continuous patronage（惠顾） we have for the company. Furthermore, out of thousands of customers, only 1000 are randomly（随机的） chosen.

I vividly remembered one of my friends, Lisa, telling me that Christmas came early since she received the free phone, too. I was over the moon when the official representative(代表） was knocking on my door to hand me the gift. As crazy as it sounds, I even had mixed emotions due to the fact that some of the worst experiences came flashing before me while I was accepting the gift. I reckon I tend to be a difficult customer when they are having system issues or during maintenance repairs. Then I realized there are some things we have no control of like me getting a free gift despite sometimes my bad attitude when I deal with them.

Back in 2020, I decided to pursue my post-graduate studies in Japan. But, it's a prerequisite（先决条件；前提） to have a command of（掌握；精通） the Japanese language before stepping into that country, since the whole society speaks Japanese and only a part of the population knows the English language.

Anyway, because of the global pandemic that took the world by storm(席卷了整个世界), moving outdoors became limited. That's why, I made full use of technology at my disposal(在我手上) to learn the language.

The first thing I did was to become familiar with the Japanese Language.  I reckon(料想;估计;认为) it's an important step when learning any languages, right? Anyway, what I did was to listen to podcasts like JapanesePod 101 and News in Slow Japanese , which are audio files that I downloaded from the internet.

Another step I did to have a good command of the Japanese language was to learn Hiragana with Mnemonics. Hiragana is the basic Japanese phonetic alphabet. Learning it may seem a difficult task at first, but it is a very important step for achieving Japanese proficiency(熟练；精通)

Finally, I practiced my conversation skills by looking for an online tutor whom I was studying with at night and during the weekends, in the comfort of my home(在自己舒适的家里).currently,  i'm on the ladder of becoming a proficient Japanese speaker and in due time(在合适的时候), I will go to Japan for further studies.

The village I visited was in the northern part of the Philippines, called Baguio. It is also known as the summer capital of the Philippines. Actually, most tourists go to the common attractions in the Philippines but this place is a hidden gem（隐藏的宝石）. As a matter of fact, it was relatively colder in climate compared to its neighboring cities.

I visited there in February, 2018. It was so memorable because this was the time when they were preparing for their Flower Festival. I could hear the drums playing and I could see the dancers practicing their number（舞蹈） for the said festival. The roads were also closed because the main road was filled with pop-up stores（快闪店） that sold the village souvenirs and delicacies（佳肴）. This was also the place where I first rode a horse. At first, I was so scared that I might fall, but the guide reassured me that he had everything under control.  I also went to their strawberry-picking farm, where I tasted the sweetest strawberries ever. Their strawberry ice cream was delicious too. Aside from the sumptuous（豪华的） food, the view there was also breathtaking（激动人心的）. We jogged every day and the views of the mountains and pine trees were a sight for sore eyes, and the breeze（微风） was so refreshing. It’s a place that I love recommending my friends as a go-to place（必去的地方） to unwind, seek adventure, and just be lost in the moment.

Across the Huangpu River rises the Pudong district’s futuristic（未来主义的） skyline, including 632m Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower（东方明珠电视塔）, with distinctive（有特色的） pink spheres（球）. Sprawling Yu Garden has traditional pavilions（亭台楼阁秋）, towers and ponds. 

It is China's commercial capital and most populous（人口众多） city. Alongside Beijing, Chongqing, and Tianjin, it is one of four municipalities（自治市） directly controlled by the central government.

As a city dweller and a travel buff（旅行爱好者）, what I love about Shanghai is there are so many things to see and do. For example, tourists and locals can marvel at the popular tourist destination and renowned historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple（城隍庙） and Yu Garden as well as the extensive（大量的） Lujiazui skyline, many skyscrapers, and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum.

Overall, this place is absolutely fascinating in all aspects.

Well, the first place that pops into my mind（进入我的脑海里） is Pattaya, a city located in the southeastern part of Bangkok, Thailand. I went there three years ago with my family, and we spent our Chinese New Year there. Traditionally, we spend our New Year in our hometown, but for some reason, we wanted to do something different at that time, so we flew all the way to Thailand. However, we were surprised to find a large Thai-Chinese community in Pattaya, and they also celebrated the Lunar New Year with dragon parades, lion dances, as well as fireworks. 

My family and I couldn't contain(控制，抑制) our excitement back then, as we only thought of going there to visit the beach, but we were met with(遇到) unexpected events. Anyhow, after participating in the said celebration, we savored（尽情享受;充分体验） the beach as much as we could. We participated in a variety of water sports, including the banana ride where we experienced a session of laughter. We also went snorkeling on Coral Island, where we marveled at（惊讶不已;不胜惊羡;大为赞叹） the beauty of brilliant coral reefs and swam with a variety of colorful fishes. Finally, we sailed, which allowed us to soak up the sun（沐浴阳光） while taking in views of the vast blue ocean. 

Overall, we had a blast（玩得很开心） even though we celebrated Spring Festival in a different setting. The Thai-Chinese community gave us a sense of belonging（归属感） considering the fact that we were in a foreign country. Although I must admit that I wasn't very fond of the crowd but regardless, we were over the moon（非常开心）.

This kitchenware includes glassware and cooking equipment which would aid her a lot in her cooking.

Well, I want to give that to her since it has been a long time since she bought a new kitchenware. The utensils she has been using in cooking are old and vulnerable already. I guess, it‘s time for her to use the new ones.

Moreover, I want to buy her that gift to show my outmost appreciation, love and gratitude to her. In my 22 years of existence, she has served us the most delicious foods on our table.

My mother deserves that gift since that could be one of the simplest ways of showing my love to her.

I hope that when my mom unwraps my gift, she would be on cloud nine. I believe that she would be extremely jovial the moment she opens my gift.
