  • How To Trust Your Gut in Business and Health with Claire and Ellen Rudolph of WellTheory

Growing up, sisters Ellen and Claire, started a childcare summer camp for neighborhood children. Eventually, they decided to take what they learned from that experience, along with their work backgrounds, and combine it with the knowledge they had learned while waiting for a diagnosis for Ellen’s autoimmune disease and Claire’s mold exposure to create a place for others who are struggling to get quality help without the gaslighting.

Today, we sit down with Ellen and Claire Rudolph, sisters and co-founders of WellTheory, a health and wellness membership that caters to people who have autoimmune disease. They share about their first business, how their wellness journeys led to starting WellTheory, how going viral has helped their marketing, and so much more.

“I have a really distinct memory of getting my lab results while I was on the subway––I was living in New York at the time––and just breaking down in tears, because I didn't know what that meant for me and my future. And I vowed at that moment that once I got better, this was the area that I needed to dedicate my life to. And from there, I started to educate myself on what I was putting in and all my body started to embrace using food as medicine and really transformed my entire lifestyle.” - Ellen Rudolph

      • Our Favorite Quotes:

        • “I went to doctor after doctor and got no answers. My symptoms were continually dismissed. And I was made to believe that it was all in my head. And I had many physicians that referred me out to therapists who could help me with my ‘psychological issues.’” - Ellen Rudolph
        • “I was lucky, you know, it only took me a year to a year and a half to get a diagnosis. For most folks, it takes four and a half years on average to get a diagnosis. And that's just not okay. It's a really long time to be living in uncertainty, and to just not be feeling like yourself.” - Claire Rudoplh
        • “One thing I remember watching Ellen in her health journey was she always had this intuition that I might have gotten 20 people to tell me that there's nothing wrong, but I know that something's wrong. And I think you need that same intuition and to listen to that, as an entrepreneur, when you're building something.” - Claire Rudolph

                • “I remember being at a party, I don't know, in some time in the very early 2000s, pre-Uber and somebody said, ‘wouldn’t it be great if there was a car service that would pick you up and take you to anywhere you want? You could just call them on your phone. But it wouldn't be like an actual car service.’ And I just remember saying, ‘Oh, that's a terrible business. I used to do that.’” - Natalie Mackey
                • “One of the things they say in the writing world is ‘don't be afraid to kill your darlings.’ So you might have this idea that you're very married to but all of a sudden, it really stops working or it's no longer useful. It doesn't serve the business anymore. And I find that it's one of the hardest muscles to grow and then flex is to be able to let go of something and say this no longer serves.” - Natalie Mackey

After struggling to feed her daughter by breastfeeding, Andrea was lost and didn’t know what to do. This is unfortunately a story that is common amongst new moms. But for Andrea, she decided to change the narrative by making it her mission to educate new moms and help them meet their feeding goals.

Today, we sit down with Andrea Ippolito, CEO and founder of SimpliFed, a company that provides virtual support for breastfeeding and baby feeding. She shares why SimpliFed’s mission is personal for her, tips for other healthcare businesses, the power of a ‘fast no’, and so much more.

“My daughter continued to lose weight, she was down to four pounds. I'm a pretty Type A person, and I have never felt so broken and just uncomfortable and just didn't know what to do and lost. And I also felt bad at the time that I couldn't breastfeed. Now, I know that I shouldn't have been so hard on myself. And we talked about this with families all the time. But I also learned that, you know, formula is a great, healthy option. But I felt just very lost. And I didn't really understand what to do next. And that's what caused me to really start SimpliFed.” - Andrea Ippolito

“We kind of would daydream about starting something together. I had no idea what that was going to be though until one day I was buying a pregnancy test. And I ran into my boyfriend's mom, and called Jamie who at the time was my dear friend and dear coworker in tears. And honestly, then Stix was born.” - Cynthia Plotch

After going down the path that she figured was best for her, Type-A Nicole decided to quit her career to see where her blog would take her. She became one of the leading industry experts in the gluten-free field and helped shape how restaurants facilitated gluten-free options.

Today, we sit down with Nicole Cogan, founder of No Bread, a popular gluten-free blog, and an angel investor. She shares with us why she quit her job with no back-up plan, her biggest challenges, her advice for investing, and so much more.

“So I like, had my food list of what I could eat at each restaurant, did I get sick, how I felt, all this stuff. And that was the basis of No Bread, which became my career and my passion was this Excel sheet that made its way around the office and turned into what it is today.” - Nicole Cogan

Have you ever had a chance encounter that led to your life’s purpose? For Alicia Silverstone, that encounter happened when she was eight and witnessed a calf being taken from its mother. From then on, she swore she would never eat meat again. That childhood decision led to Alicia creating a brand rooted in personal ethics.

Today, we sit down with Alicia Silverstone, mom, actress, author, advocate, and Entreprenista. Alicia has written multiple books and has a line of vitamins with Garden of Life. She shares with us how she found her life’s passion, how she learned to be okay with using her voice, why she decided to start a vitamin line, and so much more.

“I was just simply aligned with ‘this is not okay with me anymore. And I'm not going to stand by it. I'm just gonna stand in my truth.’ And that connected me deeply to my self worth.” - Alicia Silverstone

Anouck shares the challenges she’s faced, why a mindfulness coach is important, unique ideas for raising capital, and so much more.

And his American friends in the dorms were like, ‘Oh, my God, Greg, this is good. Where can we buy it?’ And, like, you couldn't buy it in the US at that time. They couldn't find it. And at that point, he was like, ‘maybe, maybe this is something I should look into and pursue.’” - Anouck Gotlib
