  • Will the murder of Maltese journalist Caruana Galizia go unpunished?
Thursday marks the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. The UN says some 900 reporters were killed over the past decade - and in 90% of cases, the crimes go unpunished. Will this also be the case for Daphne Caruana Galizia? The Maltese investigative journalist and blogger, who helped expose a web of corruption including the Panama Papers, was killed by a car bomb on October 16. Our team reports from Malta, where many fear that justice will not be done. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Jimena Morales-Velasco.

  • Colombia on the rocky road to reconciliation
Nearly one year ago, Colombia reached a historic peace deal with FARC rebels: a turning point for the country's future. After a conflict lasting half a century that left over 200,000 people dead, it's now time for reconciliation. Juan Pablo Escobar, the son of the notorious drug lord, is meeting with some of his father's victims in an attempt to break the vicious cycle of vengeance. Our correspondent reports. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Jimena Morales-Velasco.

  • HRW controversy: Rwanda rejects accusations of extrajudicial killings
In July, the NGO Human Rights Watch published a report claiming that the Rwandan security services were responsible for the extrajudicial killings of 37 people - for crimes as minor as stealing cattle, motorbikes, or food. In response, Rwanda's National Commission for Human Rights rubbished the allegations, claiming that some of the allegedly deceased were still alive, while others had died of natural causes. FRANCE 24's Thais Brouck conducted his own investigation. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • Cannabis industry hit hard by California wildfires
Over the past few weeks, Northern California has suffered its worst ever wildfires, which have left 42 people dead and 100,000 hectares up in smoke. As well as destroying vineyards, the fires also severely damaged many of California's legal cannabis farms. But unlike their counterparts in the wine industry, most cannabis farmers are not insured because their crop remains illegal under federal law. Our correspondent reports.

  • The taboo of infertility for women of African descent
Infertility concerns 80 million couples worldwide. For many infertile women, egg donors are their only hope of getting pregnant. In France, egg donors are not paid and the process is anonymous, leading to a shortage of donors. Experts say France would need about 900 more to satisfy existing demand. And black women often have to wait four times as long for a donor. Our reporters went to find out more about this taboo subject. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • Can former Georgian president Saakashvili galvanise Ukraine's opposition?
Nearly four years after Ukrainians took to the streets and overthrew a corrupt government, some of them want to do it again. Currency devaluation and utility price hikes have made Ukrainians poorer, while corrupt officials still go unpunished. One man who says he wants to change that is former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili. He is now trying to galvanise the opposition in Ukraine. But can he pull it off? Our correspondent Gulliver Cragg reports from Kiev. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • Video: Tensions high ahead of Kenya's presidential re-run
Since the re-election of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in August and the unprecedented annulment of that result by the Supreme Court, Kenya has been plunged into crisis. For the past five weeks, supporters of opposition leader Raila Odinga have been staging protests - many of them violent - in opposition strongholds, demanding a postponement of Thursday’s vote re-run. Odinga is now urging his supporters to boycott the new vote. Our correspondents filed this report. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • How east German voters fuelled far-right's parliament breakthrough
In Germany, MPs from a far-right party are taking their seats in parliament, in a post-war first. A total of 92 politicians from the Alternative for Germany, or AfD, now form the third-largest party in the Bundestag. In last month's election, the AfD scored highest in the former east Germany, in areas where many feel like second-class citizens due to higher unemployment and lower salaries or pensions. Our reporters have been meeting AfD voters in Saxony to find out more. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Florence Viala.

  • Was Chilean poet Pablo Neruda murdered?
International forensics experts have concluded that Pablo Neruda didn't die of cancer, as currently stated on his death certificate. The Chilean poet and senator from the Communist party died in 1973, just two weeks after the military coup led by Augusto Pinochet toppled the leftist government of Salvador Allende. The experts' conclusion increases speculation that Neruda may in fact have been murdered. Our correspondents report from Chile. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, François Wibaux and Florence Viala.

  • The mixed legacy of 'Abenomics' in Japan
Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is hoping for a landslide win in snap elections this Sunday. He's banked much of his chances of success on his economic policies, known as "Abenomics". Japanese stock markets have reached record highs and the jobless rate has steadily declined, falling under 3%. But have his signature measures made everyone richer? Our reporters Yuka Royer and Julie Dungelhoeff take a look at the economic realities of life in Japan. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Florence Viala.
