  • Lebanon pays price for conflict between Saudi Arabia and Hezbollah
Since the start of the year, relations between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon have taken a turn for the worse. The crisis began when Lebanon refused to sign an Arab League declaration condemning the January attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran, on the grounds that the statement described Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation. Since then, Riyadh has suspended a key aid package for the Lebanese army. FRANCE 24's team reports from Beirut. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elise Duffau and Claire Pryde.

  • Libya: Who's running the country?
The EU is mulling military operations in Libya to help shore up the new national unity government. The man at the head of this fragile, UN-backed coalition is Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj. He began his mandate under a shroud of secrecy and is now faced with the daunting task of restoring peace and unity in his deeply divided country. But as this report from France 2 explains, the former Prime Minister is still refusing to cede power. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Elise Duffau.

  • A closer look at France's 'Up All Night' movement
France's "Up All Night" movement has been likened to the "indignados" movement in Spain and "Occupy Wall Street" in the US. The first gathering at Paris's Place de la Republique was held after a protest against labour law reform. One month later, people of all ages continue to stay up late, discussing the ills of the world. But with debates encompassing a wide range of topics and an unwillingness to name a leader, the movement is struggling to find a voice beyond its own supporters. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elise Duffau and Claire Pryde.

  • Video: Iraqi woman rescues Yazidi sex slaves from IS group
Vian Dakhil is Iraq's only MP from the Yazidi community, a religious minority persecuted by the Islamic State (IS) group. For the past two years she’s invested her time and most of her personal fortune into saving fellow Yazidi women from sexual slavery at the hands of IS group jihadists. Her struggle means she’s now at the top of the terrorist group’s hit list. Our colleagues from France 2 met this courageous lady and some of the women she’s helped to escape from a living hell. >> On France24.com: Jinan, former slave of IS group: 'They treated us like animals'

  • Is Chernobyl still harming children today?
Thirty years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster near the border between Ukraine and Belarus, residents and scientists remain concerned about the possible genetic effects of the fallout. Among the people worst hit by the radiation were so-called "liquidators" brought in to clean up the ruined reactors. They have suffered severe pathologies in the years following the nuclear accident, but now worry they have passed on their illnesses to their children and even their grandchildren.
Scientists are divided on the issue. Some rule out that radiation-linked disease can be inherited, while others say there is clear evidence of systematic genetic damage in the blood samples of the liquidators and others who were exposed to the radioactive fallout.
Residents in the area have little faith left in authorities, with many convinced the Chernobyl radiation and the afflictions it causes are part of their unlucky inheritance.
A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Elise Duffau.

  • Djibouti emerges as key transit point for migrants and refugees
Djibouti, a tiny country of less than a million people, has emerged as a key transit point for migrants, with poverty-stricken Ethiopians, Eritreans and Sudanese all crossing the country en route to find work in the Gulf states. Now, however, the conflict in Yemen is sending even higher numbers of refugees into Djibouti. Our team reports from the fishing town of Obock. A programme prepared by Josh Vardey

  • Will the Paris climate deal promises be kept?
Earth Day carries added significance this year with the official signing of the Paris Climate Agreement. More than 170 governments, including 40 heads of state, are attending the symbolic ceremony at the United Nations - the largest one-day signing of any international agreement, according to the UN. But will they live up to their commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Our environment editors take a look. A programme prepared by Josh Vardey and Elise Duffau

  • Religious groups angry at law protecting Pakistani women
In Pakistan, at the end of February, the Protection of Women Against Violence Bill was adopted unanimously by the Assembly of Punjab province. The legislation makes it easier for female victims to file complaints against their abusers and find refuge in women's shelters. But religious groups say the law will encourage divorce and destroy the traditional family unit, and are urging the government to repeal it. A programme prepared by Josh Vardey and Elise Duffau

  • Sweden's U-turn on asylum
Sweden once flew the flag for an open door migrant policy, but the Scandinavian country has now done a dramatic U-turn: introducing border controls and tighter legislation, creating one of the most restrictive asylum policies in Europe. Our reporters went there to investigate what caused the turnaround and what it means for the latest arrivals of refugees. A programme prepared by Josh Vardey and Elise Duffau.

  • French youngsters at risk of being recruited by jihadists
France is the country that has sent the most foreign fighters to Syria, with an estimated 2,000 youngsters leaving to join the Islamic State group jihadists. That trend has been particularly felt in the southern city of Nimes. This report tells the story of two mothers who could do nothing to stop the radicalisation of their sons. They now want to warn other families about the recruiters who prey on young people in Nimes' suburbs. A programme prepared by Josh Vardey and Elise Duffau.
