  • Hungary stands firm on anti-migrant stance
The European Commission is set to present its third report on efforts to tackle the continent's migration crisis, but some member states continue to fiercely resist these efforts, particularly Hungary. The EU's refugee relocation plan has been rejected by the conservative Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has called a referendum on it and decreed a "state of migration crisis". Meanwhile, Hungary continues to fence up its southern and eastern borders, as our team reports. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Japanese female workers fight 'Maternity Harassment'
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says increasing the number of women in the workplace is key to kick-starting economic growth. Yet 60% of Japanese women quit their jobs when they have their first child. Some do so happily, but one in five say they experience some form of harassment after they become pregnant or give birth, or are pressured to resign. A phenomenon known in Japanese as "matahara" - a combination of the English words maternity and harassment. Our team went to find out more. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett

  • The different faces of France's anti-labour reform protesters
France's labour reform bill has sparked protests and demonstrations for months. Now that the government has forced the legislation through - bypassing parliament - those protests are likely to intensify. However, recent demos have turned violent and ugly scenes could be replicated, as some activists vow to stop the bill by whatever means possible. FRANCE 24 met two far-left activists, both determined to protest, but employing very different tactics to make their voices heard. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Claire Pryde.

  • Doping: Can Kenya avoid an Olympic ban?
The World Anti-Doping Agency meets on Thursday to decide whether to allow Kenya to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The verdict is keenly awaited in the country, where President Uhuru Kenyatta signed a tough new anti-doping law on April 20. However, our reporters in Nairobi have obtained footage and eyewitness accounts which suggest that cleaning up the sport will be a monumental task. FRANCE 24’s Julia Steers and Duncan Woodside bring us this exclusive report. Right of reply: FRANCE 24 spoke to Athletics Kenya, who said that it would be inappropriate to comment on allegations that officials have taken bribes while an investigation is underway by the newly formed Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya. Nonetheless, Athletics Kenya stated that its procedures for dealing with athletes accused of doping are transparent, including the recording of minutes in the presence of lawyers.

  • Two former Rwandan mayors go on trial in France over 1994 genocide
More than two decades after the Rwandan genocide, two of the country's former mayors are in the dock, facing charges of crimes against humanity. Octavien Ngenzi and Tito Baharia go on trial in Paris this Tuesday, accused of inciting the massacre of hundreds of Tutsis in a church in the eastern town of Kabarondo in April 1994. They deny the accusations. This comes two years after the landmark trial in France of a former Rwandan official, who was sentenced to 25 years behind bars.

  • India: Water train provides glimmer of hope amid severe drought
With monsoon rains failing for two consecutive years, a quarter of India's population is now affected by a severe drought. The western state of Maharashtra is one of the worst hit, with rural areas now dependent on the water that's being brought in by train. But other remote parts remain cut off from this crucial lifeline and some desperate farmers have already taken their own lives. FRANCE 24's team in India reports. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Laura Burloux and Claire Pryde.

  • Philippines: Son of late dictator Marcos leads opinion polls
On Monday, Filipinos head to the polls in a general election. And thanks to the country's split-ticket system, voters get to elect a vice president directly. One name on the ballot is of particular interest: Ferdinand Marcos Junior, son of the late Philippine dictator Marcos. For many, the name Marcos is synonymous with martial law, graft and torture. But "Bong Bong", as he is known, is ahead in the opinion polls. Our team reports from the Philippines. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Laura Burloux.

  • On the trail of US-exiled cleric Gulen, arch enemy of Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once had a staunch ally in Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. But the relationship between the two men soured to the extent that the Pennsylvania-based preacher is now on Turkey's most-wanted list, accused of terrorism. Gulen has been in self-imposed exile in the United States since 1999. Our US correspondents went looking for him and his supporters in Pennsylvania. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Laura Burloux and Claire Pryde.

  • Gulf states starting to feel the pinch of cheap oil
Gulf countries have lost billions of dollars because of the fall in oil prices. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates all now need to cut spending and find new sources of income. In an unprecedented move they are mulling the introduction of income and VAT taxes, while slashing subsidies, all this despite the risk of antagonising the population. FRANCE 24's team reports from the United Arab Emirates. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Migrants: Austria building fence on border with Italy
Austria has begun building a fence and checkpoints on its border with Italy in a bid to keep migrants out. Following the closure of the Balkan route, Vienna fears that this summer, migrants will cross the Mediterranean and come up through the Italian peninsula to Austria. But the decision has provoked an outcry in Italy. FRANCE 24's Natalia Mendoza reports from the Alpine Brenner Pass. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.
