Welcome to a Slayer RIFF, where I turn on the mic and take you inside what I'm actually thinking, learning, practicing and occasionally fucking up while I lose 100 pounds again.

I'm officially 33 pounds down, and this week I'm riffing on the part of weight loss that has very little to do with knowing what to eat or whether I should go for a walk.

It's the thoughts. The awareness. The evidence we're collecting about ourselves. The rooms we put ourselves in. The little actions that don't look particularly impressive until one day you realize...holy shit, you're different.

After being on a diet since 1987, I don't think my answer is another diet.

I think a huge part of my answer is learning to use my brain differently.

This isn't a perfectly packaged lesson. It's me, Slayer, 33 pounds into the experiment, sharing what I'm noticing from right here in the messy middle.

Are you more intuitive than you think?

I have a psychic medium at my disposal... so obviously I have questions. 😂🔮

My guest is my longtime friend Laura Lou, psychic medium and intuitive healer. And when I say longtime, I mean Brownies, friendship bracelets and questionable junior-high fashion choices longtime.

But somewhere between Brownies and becoming an out-of-the-closet psychic medium, some shit happened.

Laura shares the first psychic experiences she remembers as a tiny kid, what happened when the adults around her didn't quite know what to do with her gifts, the experience that scared her enough to shut it all down, and how those gifts eventually cracked back open years later.

And here's where it gets especially fascinating for me...

One of the breadcrumbs was Alter Ego.

Laura came through one of my original Alter Ego experiences and discovered Brigid, the identity that helped her explore a part of herself she'd never fully given herself permission to access. We talk about what happens when an Alter Ego doesn't create somebody new, but instead opens the door to something that may have been there all along.

Then we go ALL the places. 😂

We talk about whether everyone is intuitive, what intuition actually feels like in the body, intuition vs. fear and anxiety, psychic abilities, mediumship, spirit guides, energetic boundaries, free will, signs, self-trust and why slowing down enough to hear yourself might matter more than learning another damn thing.

And Laura shares some WILD stories from her own journey.

I asked the universe for a sign that I was on the right path... and then came 11:11, Sharpshooter, and a freaking dragonfly. 😂

This week's RIFF goes everywhere in the best possible way. We're talking signs and synchronicities, food protocols, mindset, meditation, core values, goals, and the deeper WHY underneath my natural weight loss journey after 50.

I share how I'm using food protocols to make decisions ahead of time with my smart brain, while also paying attention to what happens when monkey mind wants something else. This isn't about another rigid diet or being perfect. It's about awareness, learning what works for your body, and making the next better choice. 

Then we get into something that's been rolling around in my brain: What if the goal you're chasing isn't actually connected to what you value most?

Weight loss was the quest I knew how to start. But underneath health, underneath losing weight, underneath all those whys, I found something much bigger for me: freedom.

Freedom to travel. Explore. Experience my life. Build my business. Listen to my soul. Do whatever the fuck I want to do.

And maybe THAT is why some goals pull us forward while others feel like we're dragging ourselves through the mud.

We're also talking about continuing to dream, plan, vision, meditate and take those tiny actions during the seasons when it feels like absolutely nothing is happening... because sometimes you've been doing the work for years before everybody else suddenly thinks your transformation happened overnight. 

Apparently no matter where I start these RIFFs, we eventually end up at the same place:

Perfectionism doesn’t always look like high standards and color-coded excellence.

Sometimes it looks like spinning, overthinking, procrastinating—and waiting for Monday to start again. Ask me how I know. 😂

Diet culture has us believing the happy is at the skinny. Lose the weight, and then the happy shows up.

I did the opposite. I stopped chasing skinny and started chasing joy — and the weight came off anyway.

Then the opposite happened. Joy went out of my life, and the weight came back on. So it became a mission to create a life I loved again. And as I stepped into that, the weight started coming off again.

I'm still in it. I've still got work to do. And I'm doing it right here with you.

Sustainable weight loss after 50 doesn't come from trying harder. It comes from building habits and rituals you actually want to wake up to.

In this episode I'm telling you the thing that finally made my habits stick. I was a 300-pound ball of misery in Phoenix, and the first habit I ever built was a 20-minute meditation I bribed myself into with a cup of coffee. That one small ritual started everything.
