As entrepreneurs, we tolerate too much.

As a result, too often, we get into relationships  (personal and business) that are totally wrong and stay in them for much longer than we should. Throughout my career, I've seen over and over again, entrepreneurs stuck in abusive relationships. 

This is a really tough and personal topic for me to discuss, I questioned if I should even do this episode, but, I live a life of transparency and I share my experiences with you to hopefully help you avoid mistakes that I've made previously in my own life.

Fight or flight mode is a natural response to stressful or challenging situations. 

You can stay in it and try and push through your days, but you will pay the consequences.  

My advice is to not get stuck.  Break out of fight or flight mode as soon as possible. 

So how do you get back on track?  There are three strategies that I use every single day to put gas back in the tank. 

One - Hydrate like you never have before. Water is a gateway drug to success.

Two - Move your body.  Take a primal walk every morning and calm your body. 

Three - Meditate. Learn how to be present and aware.

As entrepreneurs, we're not going to stop or slow down. So, we need to learn some tactics to make sure that we can operate at full capacity.

Today I have been speaking at the CapCon Conference in Dallas.

After my talk I had someone approach me to thank me.  They said that while listening to me speak, something clicked for them.  They realized that they've been wasting so much time trying to work out what the perfect thing is that they need to do to get started, but, really they just need to do something, anything.

Far too many of us are not in momentum, not chasing something or doing anything.

I never imagined I would share a podcast about cleaning your house.  I have been following the Marie Kondo method and it has changed my life.

Stick with me, this method is a very specific way of purging your house and creating crazy organization. I believe every one of us must consistently and consciously lower the pressure and noise in our lives so that we can move forward and progress.  This method of tidying up teaches you to identify what you really do and do not like and what you really do and do not need in your life.

When you employ people and create a team, eventually you are going to have issues.  One of the toughest things to deal with as a leader is people issues, but sooner or later there will be a big problem and you are going to have to terminate someone.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as an employer is to speak negatively about past employees to your current team. The rest of your team is watching to see how you react to losing someone. 

When you react and share the news to your current team with kindness, you make your team feel safe.  You show that you care about them and that you cared for the person that you had to terminate. 

If you have to make a personal change, share it with your team with kindness in your voice.  Be transparent with them and honor the absent.

Entrepreneurs want to earn money.  We don't just want to make a living, we want to achieve wealth and freedom. When we're tracking our success, money is most often the scoreboard we're working with. But, there are times when money is not the only metric that matters.

When you take on a big project and there's not a big cheque at the end of it, it feels like a total failure, but, are there other gains that you can take away and count as a success? 

What about experience, understanding, leadership skills, and perspective? Look at where the positives are and place your focus there. So often we beat ourselves up because money is the only metric we feel really matters.

I 100% believe that what you focus on expands.  When you're not giving your attention to your net worth, revenue, and overall profitability, your not focusing on the 3 numbers that you want to grow the most.
