Just imagine the scene....you're in the ballroom at the Hilton Park Lane, the air is filled with expensive fragrance, hairspray and the nerve tinged chatter of some of the most famous names in beauty. Everyone is waiting to hear who will win the most prestigious awards in the industry......awards that could potentially propel a brand to global success.


In this episode of Outspoken Beauty I take you behind the scenes at the awards and chat to some of the winners. Expect excitement from Jules Von Hep, news on Beauty Banks from Sali Hughes, industry chit chat with Alison Young and a great insight into some of the most exciting brands in the UK from the people behind them.


I'll also guide you through some of the winning products, telling you why I love them and my tips for how to use them most effectively.

In this episode I’m joined by force of nature Maleka Dattu who is the founder of skincare brand Merumaya.

When Maleka founded Merumaya she wanted to come up with a line of products that would out perform many on the market but that would always be affordable. She put her heart and soul into creating a line of very special products and many hours were spent accompanied by a group of the UK’s most talented cosmetic scientists coming up with exciting and effective formulas.

Maleka is passionate about cutting through the BS and never tricking her customers with clever marketing speak or promises she can’t keep. She believes in real women feeling confident and empowered. She never pays influencers for reviews and her integrity is incredibly important to her. (Caroline Hirons is a fan too)

There are so many skincare products out there that sometimes it gets totally overwhelming and we have no idea what we should be putting on our faces and when. In this no nonsense episode Mark and Colette who are the founders of the Inkey List, sit down with me and chat through the ingredients that we should be using, where to put them in our routines and the things that you should never mix.


They also talk through some of their top ingredients and give us an insight into why they launched the brand and how it's growing at a huge rate.


Later on I give you some gossip from the CEW Awards (The Oscars of the beauty industry) and tell you about a great shampoo and conditioner for body and bounce and a fake tan oil that is beautifully non-streaky.

The lovely Cher Webb is back and she's all a flutter about the new Pat McGrath collection. During the episode she talks about her very favourite products and why she thinks the lipsticks are some of the best on the market.

Later on we chat through some of the new products that Cher has been trialling including an affordable Vichy Serum that is as good as far more expensive equivalents, an incredible NARS eyeshadow pallet filled with suit all shades and a banana related collection that has brightened up her face.

Jo Elvin has been on my top list of podcast guests for a long while and I finally got her into the studoio. Yay!

In this episode we have one of my best sorts of chats where the conversation darts about and you never know where you're going to emd up next. We chatted abouth everything from dogs to clothes our husbands hate to how far we can trust beauty influencerss versus journalists. Jo chatted about a life editing some of our most iconic magazines and what she feels women really want. She also gives a very honest account about how she sees herslef when she looks in the mirror.

Jo is intelligent, naturally quick and has the irreverent style of humour that I love so much. 

Later on I talk about my favourite body butter of all time and recommend a hair salon where you're guarenteed a great cut and good chat!

You know how much I love an entrepreneur, well I couldn't wait to get Sherille Riley into the studio to talk about her journey from trainee beautician to becoming the founder of Nails and Brows Mayfair and her own product range which is called The Beauty Edit Mayfair. (She also designs the brows of a very very famous member of the Royal Family but I'm not allowed to say any more or I'll get into trouble!)

Sherille's passion, enthusiasm and determination are a real inspiration, especially if you're thinking of taking the leap and starting your own business.

Later in the episode I recommend not only some fab beauty products but also a cheap and cheerful holiday where you're guaranteed fabulous fish and chips and a good dose of sea air.

Cher's a busy lady this week so there's a very special one off episode in store for you. This was a recent live recording of The Outspoken Beauty Podcast (in front of an audience of beauty industry insiders....scary!) with the incredible Jules Von Hep and Anita Bhagwandas. 

The conversation was about the products that mean the most to us and why. From the hand cream that my Mum always uses to the smell that reminds Jules of his ex to the Indian hair product that Anita no longer rejects, these are the beauty products that have a huge emotional resonance in our lives.
