  • Stephen Redfern ran the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100-mile run.
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Thank you for joining me today! Episode 181 is an interview with Stephen Redfern. I have interviewed Stephen a few times, documenting his massive runs. This interview looks at his most massive run to date! Stephen recently returned to Australia after participating in the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3100-mile race. In 1997, the spiritual teacher, athlete, and humanitarian Sri Chinmoy founded the Self-Transcendence 3100-Mile Race. The race takes place annually, with runners running a .55-mile loop (or 880metres) 5,649 times around a sports field, playground, and high school in the New York City neighbourhood of Jamaica, Queens. Runners have 52 days to complete the 3,100 miles around the half-mile block. To complete the run within the allotted time frame, participants must average 60 miles (or 96.6kms) daily. The course opens each morning at 6 a.m. and closes at midnight, alternating directions each day, with the event being the longest certified road race in the world. Stephen and I discuss how he got into this epic race, what his goal was, how his race derailed and how he fought back to keep running. An unbelievable tale of persistence, resilience and ultimate self-triumph.
Do you love the pod? I assume you do seeing as you are here with me today! Did you know that it is super easy to go onto Apple Podcasts and give the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it, which I hope you do!!) and write a short review? I don’t get paid to do this but knowing that it means something to YOU makes me keep plugging away at it. Also, reviews tell Apple podcasts that people are listening and that they should show it to other listeners. In this way, the podcast grows.  The link to Apple podcasts is here.

  • Scott Beams; the nicest guy in ultrarunning!
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 180 is an episode where Ron and I chat with one of Scott Beams. Ron and I met Scott when I asked for pacers for my 7 Peaks FKT. Scott stepped up to the plate and was brilliant in his pacing duties. He then helped in my fundraising run for Red Nose Day when I ran from Bourke St Mt Buller to Bourke St in the city. He has also helped many other people achieve their running goals. In this episode we discuss how he got into running, his training, nutrition and sleep schedules. Scott definitely has an unconventional approach, but it clearly works well for him! We recorded this interview when we are in Bright for the Four Peaks race. Scott is a funny and incredibly kind person as I am sure you will get from this interview.
Do you love the pod? I really hope so! If you do, did you know that it is super super easy to go onto Apple Podcasts and give the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it, which I hope you do!!) and wrote a short review. I don’t get paid to do this (in fact it costs me!!) but knowing that it means something to YOU makes me keep plugging away at it.  The link to Apple podcasts is here.

  • Lourdes talks about Tor Des Geants 2022
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 179 is an episode where Ron and I chat with one of my good friends that I met whilst I lived in Canada. We recently caught up with her and ran with her a couple of times on our trip earlier this year. Lourdes is always doing an amazing race in some far-flung location and recently she ran Tor Des Geants. This is a race I REALLY want to do so I thought I would get her on the pod to chat about this amazing event. As you will hear, she has had many ups and downs this year running all over the world, the lucky thing. In fact, she messaged me after we recorded to say she forgot one race, the Blackfoot 50 miler in May. I was meant to do that race back in 2018 but had to go home to Australia as my mum had just had a stroke. Difficult times. But anyway, keep that in mind when you hear her talk about all her races. Lourdes is such a great person, so easy-going and chatty. If you’re listening with kids in the car, please be warned the f-bomb may have been dropped. It was part of the conversation and to be honest isn’t that word just part of conversation now!! And my interviews tend to be fun conversations with awesome people, so it happens! Ron and I had so much fun chatting with Lourdes, she is hilarious as you will find out!
Do you love the pod? God I hope so!! If you do, did you know that it is super easy to go onto Apple Podcasts and give the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it!!) and wrote a short review. I don’t get paid to do this (in fact it costs me!!) but knowing that it means something to YOU makes me keep plugging away at it.  The link to Apple podcasts is here.

  • Ron and I ran the Bright Alpine Climb Four Peaks race!
Welcome to the Peak Endurance podcast! Episode 178 is an episode that is broken up into four parts. That is because Ron and I have been at The Bright Alpine Climb – 4 Peaks is a 4 day walking and running event based in the Bright area in Victoria. Each day participants tackle a new peak with distances varying from 10.6km to 15km. All events are hosted on gazetted trails and the trails are marked for the event to help provide guidance to participants. It’s a very casual event – each climb is timed and on the final day – the results are added together to get your overall time. After each day Ron and I discuss how it went and talk about our shoe choices and so on! This was the first time for both of us doing this race and have to say it was brilliant and we highly recommend it. Such a great atmosphere, but enough from me, you will hear all about it in the pod!
One thing that was so heartwarming for me was the number of people out there on the trails over the weekend who told me how much they love the pod. I was stoked! But do you know what would be even more awesome?? If everyone who loves the pod went onto Apple Podcasts and gave the show 5 stars (if you think it deserves it!!) and wrote a short review. That would be even more heartwarming!!  The link is  here.
Well, my last poles skills for the year (and I mean it this time!!) is this Sunday. I have 2 spots left so if you get in now you can still join us!! Go to the website peakendurancecoaching.com.au to register.
