Apparently, according to those who spend their time and attention researching mindset have found that some people perceive a version of what sounds like optimism for having a growth mindset... Hmmm, interesting.
Well, if there's one person who knows how to weed out misconceptions in this world we live in, it's old mate Bobby Cappuccio! Currently diving deep into Carol Dweck's book Mindset, we are unpacking some of the ideas and perspectives that are covered and hopefully giving everyone some clarity around what we may assume is or isn't a growth vs fixed mindset.
Some of the questions we discuss are: When is 'doing the work' and being tenacious just pushing shit up a hill? How do we know when to quit or how to use our mental acuity to assess what is working and how we need to adapt and grow to move forward. What other attributes need our attention outside of the technical skill of our craft?
Get around it, kids!

I was recently asked the question by someone, "Tiff, what do you do when you're ultra stressed and tired and simply resting doesn't help?"
Great question and something I've had far too much experience being able to personally experiment with over the (almost) 4 decades of life I've lived. So today's episode I'm sharing what works for me at times when I'm exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed and feeling the elbow of burnout nudging me in the ribs...
Enjoy!

How much does our mind rule our physical experience? Does our story or belief about our body's performance play a bigger role in our healing? In my humble opinion I know it does, but I don't know how, and I don't know how I know... I just know. Harps and I discuss the evidence that we've seen, heard, and even experienced that tells us that mind over matter exists with academics such as Dr. Jeffrey Rediger dedicating their researching to learning more about the stuff we can't yet prove or understand.
Enjoy!

Karen Faith is an ethnographer, a people researcher and an empathy trainer who's recent TED Talk captured my attention, so of course I reeled her in for a chat. I guess I should have expected just how deep I might go in conversation with an empathy trainer, and that we certainly did. The idea of empathy being teachable was a fascinating enough topic in itself, yet we talk about self-awareness in relationships and having good emotional hygiene (that's a new term for me and I love it).
As we discussed Karen's powerful TED Talk, How to talk to the worst parts of yourself, we opened the door on Karen's experience with sexual violence and how she (and I) have processed and thus chosen to be wise over being wounded from such experiences. This is yet another great chat that I hope you enjoy!

Is there anyone who doesn't LOVE Johnny Ruffo? Nah, I didn't think so...
We first saw him hit the scene in 2011 as an X-Factor finalist, only to rocket from there on in going from strength to strength in any arena he seemed to throw his hat in the ring for. Winning Dancing With The Stars in 2012, touring with One Direction, Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block and not to mention his role as Chris Harrington on Home & Away for three years (to name a few). It's fair to say Johnny can sing, dance and act a touch better than I can.
Today we have a chat and a hell of a laugh as we navigate a conversation (that at times was like herding cats keeping ourselves on topic) about life's ups and downs amidst what can only be described as being an unfair prick of a five-year journey as Johnny combats brain cancer.
He's one hell of a human, now go grab a copy of his book No Finish Line.

Let's be honest, we sure don't all revel in our own versions of The Brady Bunch when it comes to our families. To varying degrees, we have all versions of dysfunction, hurt, strain and sometimes (like Bobby talks about in this episode) serious trauma associated with our family members. I've seen many people grapple with the guilt and feeling conflicted around fractured relationships through no fault of their own, because at our core we are all worthy of the love of our family, yet for a multitude of reasons (mental illness, addiction, their own trauma) sometimes they simply aren't capable or equipped. In today's chat one of the things we explore is how we can find forgiveness and thus free ourselves from the emotional pain and anguish.
Enjoy!

I often talk about how we are a product of our environment and how the feedback we take from our surroundings (both conscious and unconscious) shapes how we feel and how we behave. In recognising this, I feel like it's a pretty important thing to do an audit on every once in a while. In this punchy little episode I talk about a couple of perspectives on precisely how and why shaping and maintaining our environment and physical space actually matters.
Enjoy... and maybe go clean your sh*t up!

One of my all-time favourite guests is returning for yet another brilliant conversation.
In 1967 after 74 successful combat missions over Vietnam, Fighter Pilot Captain Charlie Plumb was shot down in his F-4 Phantom jet... On his 75th mission, only 5 days before he was to return home. Captured, brutally tortured and imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton where Charlie remained a prisoner of war for the next 6 years.
The conditions and cruelty that Charlie lived through are beyond comprehension and we discuss them in more detail back in episode 232. However today, as I am ever curious around how we can reverse engineer other people such as Charlie's experiences to draw out the lessons and possibly apply some of them to help us adapt to and overcome our own adversities in live.
Just as I said last time, these conversations are a blessing and they well and truly change my world... I hope you feel the same.

He's back! Tech guru, Patrick Bonello from the OK Smartass podcast joins me today for a hearty banter about all things... not exactly tech, it seems. For a technology nut he sure knows a LOT about art, sport, veganism and the world at large. Our conversation meanders through a bunch of these topics, such as would you eat cultured meat? That's meat that's made by humans in petri dishes rather than by farming animals. Sounds great from an ethical perspective, yet terrifying from a can-humans-be-trusted-with-such-ingredients perspective, if you ask me.
All this and more... Enjoy!

One minute, Craig Brown was a church minister and happily married father of three. Then on a work 'trip' in Montreal in 2019, he did just that (trip, that is) and broke his patella... Seeing him sent home to lift his spirits with some recovery time over Netflix. Surely Schitt's Creek can deliver the goods and lift his spirits, right? Well that it very much did, along with throwing a cat amongst the pigeons and raising the question for Craig... 'Am I gay?'
I met this legend in Port Douglas over New Years break (2022) and not only adored him but also hearing his story as a 50-something man learning to redefine everything he thought he knew about himself and the life he leads and navigate relationships, fatherhood, his faith and his career.

Roll With The Punches is where we step into the ring and go toe to toe with the hard sh*t life throws our way.
Hosted by former boxing champ turned strength coach and speaker Tiff Cook, RWTP brings you big conversations with world-class guests about psychology, relationships, trauma, the brain, and the patterns that can make a bloody mess of our lives.
If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
