  • Weakness... Or Greatest Strength? | Bobby Cappuccio - 393

What if your weaknesses are actually indicative of your greatest strengths? Might that be a game-changing perspective or what!  This is the topic of discussion that Bobby and I are burrowing into today.

I recall the day (as I've recounted many times throughout the episodes of this show) that I questions my strengths and the attributes I had for a lifetime held in such high regard, and yet realised that on the flip side they were a reflection and result of my greatest weaknesses (or fears perhaps).

When we are able to consider our perceptions and throw them under the microscope we open up a world of opportunity to harness our potential and grow.

  • Disease & Curing The Incurable | Dr. Jeffrey Rediger - 392

When it comes to disease, who beats the odds – and why? Who better to ask than Dr. Jeff Rediger, who has spent over 15 years studying spontaneous healing, pioneering the use of scientific tools to investigate recoveries from incurable illnesses. When it comes to spontaneous healing, skepticism abounds. Doctors are taught that “miraculous” recoveries are flukes, and as a result they don’t study those cases or take them into account when treating patients.

In today's episode (the second time Dr. Jeffrey Rediger has been on the show) we talk about the potential origins of illness and disease. Whether it be personal or legacy (generational) trauma, or identity and our flawed belief systems. Jeffrey shares much of his own personal experience along with some of his ideas and advice around where we can start our healing journey.

Jeffrey Rediger, MD, MDiv, is a physician, best-selling author, and popular speaker. He is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Medical Director of McLean SE Adult Psychiatry and Community Affairs at McLean Hospital. A licensed physician and board-certified psychiatrist, he also has a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. His research with remarkable individuals who have recovered from incurable illnesses has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Oz Shows, among others. He has been nominated for the National Bravewell Leadership Award, and has received numerous awards related to leadership and patient care. His best-selling book, Cured: Strengthen Your Immune System and Heal Your Life, is available at Amazon, local bookshops, and in multiple languages.

  • Intuition | Bill Bennett - 391

Bill Bennett is an Australian writer, producer and director of feature films and documentaries. In a career spanning more than thirty years, he’s made sixteen feature films, four dramatized documentaries and five feature length documentaries. His feature films have won numerous awards, both in his home country of Australia, and internationally. In Australia, Bill has won Australian Film Institute Awards and Australian Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Writer.

In Bill's early television work he won two Logies – Australia’s Emmy – for Television Reporter of the Year, and Most Outstanding Documentary.

All these accolades are AMAZING however what I really wanted to talk to Bill about was his experience with 'intuition' which is the subject of his most recent film which came about as a result of Bill's near death experience narrowly escaped due to... you guessed it, intuition!

We talk about what intuition is and how we experience and tap into it and we also talk about fear and it's relationship to intuition.

    Fascinating topics!

  • Baby Brain | Dr. Sasha Davies - 390

Baby brain.. is it a thing?

Oh I can hear ALL the mums our there giving me a resounding HELL YES! I did some polls on my socials the last couple of days and there wasn't a 'no' to be seen.

But what does science tell us about the cognitive changes that occur throughout pregnancy? Best we drag in Dr. Sasha Davies, lecturer from Deakin University's Cognitive Neuroscience Unit heading up the Baby Brain Research Project.

Not only do we discuss some of the learnings from the good doc's research but I also burrow into her personal life as amidst her PhD research Sasha dived in experientially as well as her and partner Zak had their first baby. I'm also fascinated by the journey in today's world of parents navigating the shift between being a couple to being a couple of parents-to-be and eventually parents. There's a LOT going on physically, emotionally, socially and psychologically throughout that time.

    Enjoy!

  • Belonging, The Dark Side | Bobby Cappuccio - 389

One of our most basic human needs is belonging. We are hardwired to be part of a tribe, once a survival instinct that kept us alive that remains deeply embedded in our biology. But belonging has a dark side... shadow sides. How much does the drive to belong change our beliefs, behaviours and perspectives to keep us in our tribe. Our tribe could be a workplace, a sporting club, a religion.

Today Bobby and I throw around some thoughts on this topic and yet again, I loved it and hope you weapons do too!

  • Human Design - Your Life Blueprint | Erin Claire Jones - 388

Gee whizz it would be handy if I/you/we came with a manual... a handy little map of ones self, huh? Across history, a number of systems have been used to decode and understand the complexity of human nature. Think astrological star signs, Myers-Briggs personality types and Enneagram numbers, to name a few.

Well look out... I'm dragging in yet another one that most of you have unlikely heard of yet some of you are already obsessed with! Human Design is certainly one of the most complex, being a synthesis between different disciplines and systems, mixing both ancient wisdom and modern technology. There are over seven influences in the Human Design system, including astrology, the chakras, and even quantum physics.  It’s a manual or guide that allows people to explore their own inner-landscape, to identify patterns, strengths, weaknesses. More appealingly, it’s said to offer a path of greater fulfilment, as you move towards living a life closer aligned to your deeper nature.

Human Design is a way to connect to the body’s intelligence, which unlike the mind, remains uninfluenced by external factors, such as peer pressure or cultural conditioning. It’s ethos is to inspire people to become their own authority, developing inner-trust and learning to be guided by their deeper intelligence throughout life.

I've brought in one of the most credible HD experts I have come across to help me better understand this super complex, somewhat woo-woo system. Erin Clair Jones has work featured in Forbes, mindbodygreen, Well&Good, and Nylon; along with conversations with crowds of hundreds around the world, her insights are highly sought-after because they make Human Design pragmatic, tangible, accessible — and immediately applicable to everyday life. Phew... cos I did my own chart years ago and still to this day aside from highly resonating with me I had NO clue how to use the information to evolve.

  • Forgiveness Amidst Grief | Trevor Hone - 387

Parental grief is regarded as the one of the most intense and difficult experiences of grief. Layer upon that the shock of a completely unexpected tragedy and you have yourself a cocktail of emotions that no human should have to experience.

Trevor Hone however, is one such human. We spoke to his wife Dr. Lucy Hone back in episode 362, hearing her experience not only as a mother but also quite uniquely as a resilience and grief researcher (an overnight pracademic on the topic).

Amidst Trevor's journey through his grief he afforded the driver responsible for the death of his daughter (along with his good friend and her daughter who were also in the vehicle) his empathy and forgiveness. Something many people if given the same circumstances might grapple to wrap their heads around. It's an incredible and insightful conversation in which we also explore how the dynamics of his wife Dr. Lucy's academic research and speaking career on the topic posed opportunities for healing and thus perhaps for challenges. A useful exploration given the odds around families making it through such circumstances.

    Enjoy!

  • Harnessing The Creative Mind | Seamus Evans - 386

I loved this chat with Seamus Evans... Part of me felt like I'd just met my soul-brother! From sharing and comparing our respective lessons from the boxing ring, to harnessing our (at times) wayward emotions and learning about our cognitive blueprints.

Seamus is an ambassador of The Tourette's Syndrome Association of Australia and has very recently explored medication for ADHD so we have a grand old chat about the awesome and not-always-so-awesome of all things mind, body and brain function and how Seamus has meandered through life learning to harness and revel in his strengths and creativity whilst adapting and understanding the workings of his mind and emotions (as have I... and likely you).

Brilliant banter and lot's of fun... I know you're going to love him!

  • 'I Am Enough' | Bobby Cappuccio - 385

    "I AM ENOUGH"

It's a powerful affirmation. Most of us don't believe it, many of us say it, write it and repeat it as a mantra. This week Mark Thomas opened up a dialogue with me to put the 'I Am Enough' affirmation under the microscope and define actually 'what is enough'? Which of course will vary from person to person.

Perfectly timed question preceding my weekly podcast with Bobby Cappuccio so we picked up the ball and ran with it and it's definitely a topic we both thrived on bantering about!

We bounce around ideas on manifestation and affirmative thinking. We discuss the science, the experience, the results, the tools, loopholes, the perspectives and reality - your reality, my reality and the reality that some aspects of our reality is potentially idealism itself.

Another mind-food episode I hope you enjoy!

  • A Broken Brain, A Mended Family | Lisa Saygun - 384

Yet again, I sit with one of Australia's best female body builders, Lisa Saygun and yet again, we don't quite make it to our planned conversation about squats, macros and body building.

Last time Lisa shared her incredible story of homelessness (at 16), family mental health, generational trauma, medical hardships, anorexia and undisputable grit and resilience along the way. It was one hell of an episode (#363 for those who haven't heard it) and I honestly thought it would be near impossible to beat. But today she fronts up with more to report.. Lisa's estranged mother suddenly and unexpectedly appeared back in her life after a quarter of a century. We talk about this transition, some woo-woo generational trauma uncovered and what it's like to be a daughter, a mum and a human in the middle of it all.

Here's someone who's done the work, held the vision, taken responsibility for her outcomes, faced tough times, owned her flaws and written her own story.

Big thanks to Lisa for sharing her journey with myself and the Roll With The Punches tribe. x
