Hostage to his own pain, Tama, a disturbed young man, travels the destructive road of no return as five grieving families, broken by suicide, struggle with the painful loss of a loved one.
On the anniversary of his father’s suicide, Tama (Niwa Whatuira), a young man fuelled by drugs, alcohol and violence, spirals into anger and despair.
As Tama travels the destructive road of no return, he becomes intertwined with five courageous families, each broken by the suicide of a loved one, each in search of healing and forgiveness.

When he  encounters Hine-nui-te-pō, a mysterious young woman (Hera Foley), Tama must accept the harsh reality that death is final. There’s no coming back.

  • Music review: Gorillaz 'The Now Now'
Andrew Dickens listens to Gorillaz 7th album, The Now Now.
With Gorillaz, half the world thinks they’re genius and the half spend a lot of time going huh? This is typical Gorillaz.  But one thing is always true, Damon Albarn writes very good melancholy tunes.  The whole thing is suffused with ennui, even the muffled vocals.  The riffs build and Snoop Dogg kills it on Hollywood. A simpler Gorillaz and I’m all good with that. 7/10

  • Technology expert Paul Stenhouse talks Microsoft's new computer and the Twitter clean out
Microsoft's launched a cheaper Surface computer to take on the iPad.
It's different to the iPad in that the Surface is a computer first, tablet second. Rather than the iPad which is effectively a giant mobile phone. They've always been rather high-end until now..
The 10 inch Surface Go is the new low cost $US399 tablet. It's $70 more expensive than an iPad.
It's got options for a keyboard, a mouse, a pen.. it's running a special version of Windows 10 (Windows 10 S) which basically means you can only download apps from the Windows Store. But these are desktop type apps, rather than mobile apps. Microsoft says this is so they can maintain performance and security.

  • Bob Campbell, Master of Wine: Trinity Hill
    Where I discovered it:
My tasting notes for this wine go back to the 2005 vintage. It’s a consistently good red from a winery that has a great reputation for their high quality red wines. They’ve just released the 2015 vintage, which is a terrific wine, but you can still buy the 2014, an even better vintage that has the benefit of an extra year in the bottle.
It’s an intriguing Merlot dominant red with other varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec and Tempranillo
     What does it taste like?
The younger 2015 is a medium-bodied red with chocolate/mocha, plum and spicy oak flavours. It’s quite a rich and fleshy red in deliciously drink-me-now style.
The 2014 is slightly gutsier and a little more full-bodied with dark berry and spice flavours. It’s a hard call but I marginally prefer the older wine. I guess a little extra bottle age has made it more mellow and added extra layers of flavour.
     Why it’s a bargain:
They are both good, honest, well made reds which, at around $20, are bargain buys in my book.
     Where you can buy it:
The 2015 vintage has only recently been released. I could only find it available at the Trinity Hill winery for $22.99 but it will increasingly appear on wine shop shelves as the previous vintage sells out.
You can buy the 2014 vintage “The Trinity” now at Fine Wine Delivery Company in Auckland for $19.99 or at Glengarry Wines in Auckland for $20.99. Both retailers sell their wine online although they may charge a delivery fee.
     Food match:
I like The Trinity with hearty stews and casseroles but it is a good match with most red meat dishes. Lamb shanks is another favourite of mine.
     ill it keep?
Both vintages offer pretty good drinking now but both will probably become a little smoother and mellower over the next couple of years.

Life After Footy: Legends of the Pacific: a documentary that delves into what happens after our Polynesian rugby union and rugby league icons hang up their boots (Prime, Sunday 15th July, 9.30pm)
