Saturday Morning with Jack Tame

Catherine Raynes joined Jack this morning to discuss two new books: The Dry by Jane Harper (MacMillan $38) and The Last Time We Spoke by Fiona Sussman (Allison Busby $33).

A new movie called Thirty Million co-directed by New Zealander (and former TV reporter) Adrien Taylor premiered at the United Nations in New York earlier this week.

It relates stories from Bangladesh, where 30 million Bangladeshis are at risk from rising seas caused by climate change. The film is a call to action to help save the country.

You can listen to Taylor's interview with Jack Tame above, and watch the film below.

Resident film reviewer Darren Bevan joins Jack to talk about the latest movie releases: Comedy-romance Me Before You, and big fantasy epic Warcraft. He also re-reviews Deadpool as his DVD pick.

Although Kevin Milne isn't a political junkie (in his own estimation) he takes a look at the last week of political and social issues, and the lack of care of being shown by the government: Teina Pora, Paid Parental Leave, homelessness, and ineffective 90-Day Trials.

Jack Tame opened his show this week by thinking about the assault on the LGBT community in Florida a week ago, and the regularity with which America and the world mourns massacres like this, and what it means to report on them.

Catherine Raynes reviews The Crime Writer by Jill Dawson, Hachette $55 and The Watercolourist by Beatrice Masini, MacMillan $35

Jack's featured guest this morning is an inspirational Australian on a mission to improve the lives of Cambodian children, and put an end to orphanage tourism.

She set up an orphanage of her own, but eventually realized it was a mistake and that many of the children had parents and families...

Resident movie reviewer Darren Bevan joins Jack to discuss two sequels: The Conjuring 2, a chilling new horror film, and Now You See Me 2, a less-than-magical follow up starring Daniel Radcliffe and Woody Harrelson.

Darren also picks Room as his DVD suggestion.

Jack Tame opened his show this morning by thinking about the legacy of Muhammad Ali, and his gift not just to boxing, but to the fight for black civil rights in America.

Book reviewer Catherine Raynes joins Jack Tame to discuss The Hanging Club by Tony Parsons (Century, $37), and The Missing Wife by Shelia O'Flanaghan (Hachette, $35).
