Saturday Morning with Jack Tame

Jack Tame talks about the shooting of gorilla Harambe, plus the case of the young Japanese boy left in a forest by his frustrated parents, and the internet storm the two events sparked on the do's and don'ts of raising kids.

It’s the 75th Anniversary of women in policing.

On 3 June 1941 ten women entered a Wellington training depot, launching a new era of policing in New Zealand.

It hasn’t been an easy road, with policewomen working hard to gain respect as officers and to grow the numbers of women in the New Zealand police force.

As well as being involved in the frontline, policewomen have played a role in major historical events such as the Rainbow Warrior bombing, the Wahine Disaster and the 1981 Springbok tour, and they have re-shaped the force.

Jack Tame chats with Alison Stevenson, who joined the Police in 1974 and went on to join the diplomatic protection squad.

Film critic Darren Bevan reviews the latest "massively underwhelming" instalment in the Ninja Turtle franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, "Swooney Clooney" and his performance in Money Monster, and Oscar-winning The Revenant, which is now out on DVD.

Kevin Milne talks to Jack Tame about the ditching of old-fashioned manners and the need to refine your etiquette for the modern age.

Jack's guest interview this week is with Kiwi star ballerina Hannah O'Neill: principal dancer with the Opera de Paris, and recent winner of the ballerina category in the Benois de la Danse - an Oscar in the dancing world.

Jack opens his show this weekend by looking at Oklahoma City - not the most inspiring place - and community spirit that has formed around their basketball team, and its star player: Kiwi Steven Adams.

Darren Bevan has two sterling films to review this week. First up is the Ryan Gosling/Russell Crowe crime comedy The Nice Guys, and then Tickled, a New Zealand documentary which well and truly goes down the rabbit hole.

Catherine Raynes joins Jack to review two new books out now: The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney (HarperCollins, $45), and Me Before You by Jojo Moyes ($26).

Jack's star guest this morning is Kiwi comedian Rhys Matthewson - Billy T winner and now FRED Award winner - who's just finished up his run of shows in the New Zealand International Comedy Festival.

Resident film reviewer Darren Bevan joins Jack Tame to discuss X-Men: Apocalypse, Where to Invade Next, and looks again at Joy, which is out on DVD.
