Pete Carroll praised a pair of rookie offensive linemen while speaking to the media on Tuesday. Those two players are likely to see extra playing time on Saturday against the Raiders considering the players out with injury or age/holdout when it comes to Duane Brown. Ethan Pocic and Cedric Ogbuehi won't be traveling with the team to Las Vegas, but the good news is that Dee Eskridge is seeing progress toward getting onto the practice field. Possibly the most under-the-radar competition at training camp this year is the one for punt and kick returner. Both positions cycled through a few different players last season. D.J. Reed stood out last year and according to special teams coach Larry Izzo, it sounds like that aggressive nature we've seen in the past makes him a favorite to continue at the spot this season. Tyler Lockett gave us confirmation on Friday that Nick Bellore may just be the funniest player on the Seahawks, and also put himself into the top 5 after being left off the list by DK Metcalf earlier this week.

The Seahawks started practicing in pads this week and Field Gulls writer Tyler Alsin was in attendance to take notes on what he saw from Wednesday's practice. Russell Wilson continues to look like his usual self, but was a new quarterback brought in to compete with Geno Smith for the backup job? Based on Smith's performance on Wednesday, it looks like it may be possible. Quandre Diggs impressed on Wednesday along with a player who has the potential to be a preseason crush if he continues to play in games the way he's showing up on the practice field. Tyler also previews an article that's up at fieldgulls.com that talks about PFF's latest ranking of NFL defensive lines and the Seahawks were nearly at the bottom of the list.

The Seahawks new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron spoke to the media at training camp for the first time. Seattle is preparing for a mock game on Sunday and Waldron will be calling plays from the field. He stayed away from specifics with the offense, but did talk about the importance of tempo and how the short and intermediate game plays into having a balanced offense. One of the underrated aspects of the Seahawks going into this season is the amount of competition along the defensive line. The mixture of veteran talent, emerging young players and players looking to bounce back is one that could surprise people outside of Seattle. Defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. spoke to the media following practice on Tuesday and put the spotlight on a few different areas of the defense. With a full offseason of work, Norton says we can expect a more balanced player from Jamal Adams in 2021.

One of the first free agent acquisitions this offseason was former Rams tight end Gerald Everett. His familiarity with Seahawks new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and combination of size and speed have him pegged as a potential breakout candidate this season. Pete Carroll and DK Metcalf spoke to the media after practice on Monday and both had very positive things to say about Everett, who is going into his fifth NFL season. Carroll also offered thoughts about linebacker Cody Barton and how the addition of Sean Mannion may not be competition for the spot behind Russell Wilson.

As the first week of training camp concluded, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke to the media for the second time and new pass rusher Aldon Smith made his first appearance. Dee Eskridge is dealing with a toe injury and there is no set date on when he might be available for the team. Rashaad Penny, however, sounds as though he's healthy and in great shape through the first week of training camp. Carroll also responded to Duane Brown's participation in training camp as the team taking measures to help preserve and extra wear and tear on the veteran left tackle.
