第二章 上班上学

第1课

1. I wait for the light to turn. 我等候信号灯转换。
“红绿灯/信号灯”可以说light（灯），或 traffic light（交通灯），或 signal（信号）。
变为红灯/绿灯的不用 change 而是用 turn， 比如说 The signal turns green(red). 信号灯变绿（红）。
“闯红灯”是 jaywalk，“闯红灯的人/不遵守交通规则的人”叫做 jaywalker。

2. I'd better run so I can make the light. 在信号灯还没变（红）之前，我最好赶快跑过去。
I'd better 是 I had better 的缩略语, had better 是“最好……”的意思。
这句话里的“make”是“赶上”的意思。
如果想要赶上班车，我得快跑。 I've got to run if I want to make the shuttle bus.
我们可以 run fast“快跑”，但是千万不要 “闯红灯” ignore a red light 或者cross against the light。

3. I cross at the intersection. 我走过十字路口。
intersection 是十字路口，交叉路口，这个句子里 cross 要与介词 at 连用。
也可以说 I cross the road，或 I cross the street. 我过马路。
“人行横道”是 crosswalk 或 pedestrian crossing。但是不可以说 I cross the crosswalk.

第16课

1. I wonder if I've got everything. 我想是否东西带齐全了？
要出门上班上学，该带的都带了吗？这时可以用 I wonder if...，不知道是不是……，wonder是“想知道，想明白”的意思。
Let's see...keys, cell phone... 稍等/我想想……钥匙，手机……都带了。
但是， I've a strange feeling I forgot something. But I can't think what it is. 我有种说不出来的感觉，觉得忘了什么，但又想不起来。

2. I'm late. I'd better hurry up. 我要迟到了，最好赶快走。
hurry up是“赶快”的意思，也可以说 get a move on。
I don't want to be late for work again. 我上班不想再迟到了。
I don't want to be late for school again. 我上学不想再迟到了。
“离开家”是 leave the house，“去上班”是 go to work 或者 leave for work。

3. Have a nice day. 祝你今天过得愉快。
这个非常常用的打招呼用语，早上出门遇到认识的人，刚到公司遇到同事，打招呼结束时就可以说 Have a nice day. 或者 Have a good day.
如果对方和我们说，就回答 Thank you. You too. 谢谢，你也是。或者 Have a nice day, too.

Have a nice holiday. 假期愉快。
Have a safe trip. 一路平安/旅途平安。
Have a happy new year. 新年快乐。

第15课

1. I haven't decided what to wear today. 我还没决定今天要穿什么衣服。
I haven't decided 这个句型非常好用，我还没决定……，可以说：
I haven't decided  what to do today. 我还没决定今天要做什么。
I haven't decided  what to eat. 我还没决定要吃什么。
早上面对衣柜常常感觉 It's hard to choose. 难以选择。
经常是 I haven't got anything to wear. 没什么衣服好穿。

2. The shirt is wrinkled. 这件衬衫有皱褶。
指（衣服）有皱褶的形容词是 wrinkled，它也可以用来指“脸上很多皱纹”。“皱纹”的名词就是 wrinkle。
“抚平皱纹”是 smooth out the wrinkles。smooth 的意思是“使……光滑”，smooth 还可以做形容词和副词，光滑的（地），顺利的（地）。
如果是强调“满是皱纹”时说 all wrinkled。

3. I'm afraid I've gained weight. 恐怕我的体重增加了。
I'm afraid + 从句，“恐怕……”的意思。
穿上裙子发现 This skirt is a little tight. 这条裙子紧了点。
换上另一件衣服又发现 I can hardly get into this dress. 这件衣服我几乎穿不进去。
很显然，I've gained weight. 我胖了。
真想马上、立刻、现在就 lose weight 减肥！好吧，今晚开始 go on a diet 节食。

第14课

1. I love the smell of coffee. 我喜欢咖啡的香味。

对于 a coffee lover“喜爱喝咖啡的人”来说，the smell of coffee 总是一大诱惑。 

I can't imagine getting through the morning without coffee. 整个上午没喝咖啡是无法想象的。

I'm no good until I've some coffee. 不喝咖啡之前总觉得不对劲。

在我们身边，coffee lover 可有不少呢！

2. Coffee always brings me around. 咖啡总能提起我的精神。

bring...around 是“使……清醒；使……提起精神”的意思，help...to wake up也有类似的意思。

Coffee perks me up.我一喝咖啡就精神百倍。 perk...up 就是“使……振奋，使……活跃”的意思。

I'll come around once I've had some coffee. 喝咖啡就会让我睡意全消。

3. A cup of coffee wakes me up. 我喝一杯咖啡就会清醒了。

也可以去掉 a cup of，只说 Coffee wakes me up.。

语法点：有一些动词词组，如 wake up，如果是接代名词（代名词作为宾语），如me，him，her，it，代名词要放在动词和介词的中间，如 wake me up。如果是接名字的，放在中间或后面都可以，比如：“把Lisa叫醒”可以说 wake Lisa up 或 wake up Lisa。

之前学过的“倒垃圾”take out the garbage, 也是一样的用法，也可以说 take the garbage out。如果把garbage换成代名词it，就只能说 take it out。

第13课

1. I shouldn't have stayed up late. 我不该那么晚才睡。
I shouldn't have + 过去分词 表示“我不应该（做）……”。
stay up 和 stay up late 都是“熬夜”的意思。
晚睡的理由很多，比如说 I watched too much TV last night. 昨晚我看电视看过头了。
刷手机 swipe my phone
刷剧 binge-watch
打手机游戏 play mobile games
I couldn't stop reading this mystery book. 我看这本推理小说看得入迷了/停不下来。  
I got a late-night phone call.我接到半夜打来的电话。

2. My face looks awful. 我的脸色好难看。
早上看到自己的 awful face 或者 terrible face 好难看的脸，还发现 My eyes looks tired. 眼睛看起来疲惫不堪。
又或者 My eyes are red. 两眼通红。 
My eyes are bloodshot. 两眼布满血丝。

3. I don't feel like eating. 我不想吃。
don't feel like ...ing 表示“不想做……”。
也可以说 I have a poor appetite. 我没什么食欲。
I'm not in good shape this morning. 我今天早上状态不好。
尽管这样，早上还是应该要吃早餐，因为
Skipping breakfast is bad for your health. 不吃早餐有碍健康。

第12课

1. I'm not a morning person. 我不是早起的人。

早起型的人就是 morning person。“我到晚上就没有精神”是 I'm no good late at night.

相反，到了晚上精神百倍的夜猫子称为 a night person。他们会说 I'm no good early in the morning.

不过，一般没有人会说 an afternoon person 或 an evening person.

2. It can't be that time already.怎么会是这个时间了呢？

句子里的can't...是表示“怎么会是……？”的意思。

“已经到了这个时间了吗？”是 Is it already that time? 

“睡过头”是 oversleep。

因为“闹钟没响” The alarm clock didn't go off.

“你为什么没有叫醒我？”是 Why didn't you wake me up?

“已经太晚了。”It's too late.

3. I have trouble waking up in the morning. 早上起床对我而言是件苦差事。

Have trouble ...ing 是“做……是件苦差事”之意。

早上起不来可能有各种原因，比如 I have low blood pressure.我患有低血压。

I've been having insomnia. 我有失眠症。

有的人甚至每天晚上都会 have a nightmare 做噩梦。

第11课

1. I'm still sleepy. 我还想睡。

早上被叫醒，I can't open my eyes. 我睁不开眼。

想起床，但是 My eyelids are heavy. 我眼皮沉重得睁不开。

rub the sleep out of one's eyes 揉揉眼睛赶走睡意

可是，still sleepy 仍然睡意很浓……555

2. I wish I could sleep a little longer. 我如果能多睡一会儿多好。

I wish I could...是“我如果能……多好”，比如说 I wish I could catch a few more Zs. 也是“我如果能多睡一会儿多好”的意思。这里的 Zs 是俚语，打个盹、打鼾声的意思。

Another five minutes. 再给我五分钟。

Let me go back to sleep, please. 再让我接着睡吧~

3. I feel dizzy. 我觉得头昏脑胀。

I feel + 形容词 是“我觉得……”，比如说：

I feel groggy. 我觉得虚弱无力。

I feel feverish. 我觉得有点发烧。

I feel sick. 我感到不舒服。

I feel nauseous. 我觉得想吐。

另外，也可以说 My body feels heavy. 我觉得没有力气 / 我觉得身体很沉。

第10课

1. The delicious smell of chicken soup is filling the room. 屋里充满鸡汤的香味。

Fill是“充满……”。如果说“闻到……的气味”则用 smell of...，可以说：This room smells of chicken soup. 这房间里闻到鸡汤的味道。

Smell 不仅指香味，也用来指“臭味”，比如：His shoes smells awful. 他的鞋子臭得不得了。

2. My stomach is growling. 我的肚子在咕咕作响。

Growl 本来是指狗等动物的低吼、打雷声轰隆隆，这里是用来形容饥肠辘辘的意思。

Stomach 是胃、肚子。

而“我的心脏在跳动”是 My heart is pounding.

3. The rice is ready. 米饭已经做好了。

“已经做好了 / 已经准备好了”一般用 ready 来表示，比如说：I'm ready to go out. 我已经准备好了要出去。

“饭煮好了”是 The rice is cooked. 这里不可以用现在完成时，不要说成 The rice has been cooked. 

“正在煮饭”是 The rice is cooking.

1. The shower isn't working right. 淋浴器不灵了。
“电器、机器等失灵”常用don't work，如 The light doesn't work.电灯不亮了。
Be动词的否定形式一般用 The shower isn't... 或 The shower's not...

2. Soap gets in my eyes. 肥皂水进我的眼睛里了。
这句话也可以用“我（I）”做主语，说：I get soap in my eyes.
像“肥皂水/香皂沫进眼睛了”这样的句子用完成时表示更加自然，如：Soap has gotten in my eyes.
要表示肥皂水进了眼睛里而感到刺痛则是 It stings. 或者 My eyes hurt.

3. It's time for breakfast. 是吃早餐的时间了。
第7课我们学了 It's time to get up. 是起床的时间了。 
这两句都是表示“到……的时间”、“该是做……的时间”。
It's time for...，for后面跟名词，比如，It's time for the test. 小测验的时间到了。 
It's time to...，to后面跟动词，第3句也可以说It's time to have breakfast.

第8课

1. It's cold this morning. 今天早上好冷。

谈“天气、气温”时，常用 It's + 表示天气的形容词 这一句型，比如说 It's sunny. 阳光灿烂。

后面可以加上 today，this morning等表示时间的词（词组）。

“今晚”是 tonight。

用 this 表示“今天的”有 this morning今天早上，this afternoon今天下午，this evening今天晚上，等。

2. It's still dark out. 外面还很黑。

表示周围的情况也常用 It's + 表示情况的形容词 这一句型，同时后面可以加表示场所的副词（子句）。

“在外面”可以用out或outside，不过，“在里面”则只能用inside，不可以只用in。

3. It's a beautiful day. 今天天气很好。

“天空一片云彩也没有”习惯上是说 (There's) Not a cloud in the sky. ，而不说 There's no cloud in the sky. 

“天气好”可以说：

It's fine.

It's clear.

The sun's shining.

It's a nice day.
