What is the difference between meditation and mindfulness? Well, there are many! In this episode of Shut Up and Sit, Yedda welcomes back Malikah Karim, a wellness advocate and yoga instructor, to shut up and sit down with her to talk about the differences between mindfulness and meditation, along with the five problems with meditation. Malikah and Yedda share their definitions of mindfulness and the simple, yet powerful ways you can practice mindfulness at any time of the day.
“If you’re gonna be caught up in what everyone else is doing and how they’re doing it, you’re gonna leave less space for what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. It’s a powerful tool, mindfulness, and we really need to cultivate how we use it.” - Malikah
The world needs silence. The world needs stillness. Malikah wants you to walk away from this episode knowing that hope really is the point of upward positive emotion and that it’s something that will keep us all safe if we choose to let it.
“You start to realize, I get to create the life that I want and we’re not in a world that teaches deliberate creation and empowerment and freedom, especially if you’re a minority… So we’re waking up to a world that says what if we’re all empowered? What if we all have freedom? What would that look like?” - Yedda
