  • Tips for food fear during lockdown

I’m writing this as we have just entered into the 3rd National Lockdown in the UK – even though I live in The Netherlands, I’m British and I’m pretty sure it’s not just women in the UK that are needing to hear this.  Lockdown is stressful enough without feeling the added worry of how to tackle your eating now that many of us are stuck at home and seemingly joined at the hip to the fridge and/or your children’s goody draw!  Alongside this, there is anxiety-provoking news around food scarcity (I’m not even going to mention toilet paper…🤭!). All of this combined with disordered eating – chronic dieting – binge and emotional eating – pre-lockdown, is enough to send the best of us into turmoil.  So I’m going to give you 4 tips on how to navigate food stress during this difficult and strange time.  But first, I think it is important to tackle the scarcity mindset in general...

  • How to stick to healthy habits

As I write this we are at the start of January and there are diets and juice cleanses flying around all over the place. There on our social media, in adverts and in practically 90% of every conversation we have with someone.

I use to BE one of those people who was always on a diet in January. I would have binged and then practically force-fed myself over the Christmas period with the knowledge and promise that I would be “sorting it out” in January.

After MANY years of “failing” within the first few weeks and then deciding to just give up chocolate for lent instead – which starts around Easter – I finally learnt how to free myself from binge eating (and dieting – they go hand in hand) and to build healthy habits that supported my goals instead.

I had to let go of the black or white mentality which was super hard for me but with the help and support of my coach I did it! It wasn’t until I allowed myself to flirt around in the grey area (the colourful area I like to call it!) of life in general – including food and exercise – was I able to fully embrace the sustainability that comes from building healthy habits with a balanced mindset.

I’m going to share with you 7 simple steps (most of the time all we actually need is simplicity but we always like to overcomplicate things) to “stick” to healthy habits so that you can reap the benefits of them without having to start again every January or every Monday!

    Ok, lets gooooo...

  • Mastering your unconscious mind

That voice inside your head, the one that talks to you and gives you instructions on what to do or what not to do, is that really in control of your actions?

Or do you think there is something else going on that actually determines the results in your life, whether wanted or unwanted?

    We have 2 different minds

We have 2 different minds within us that piece together to contribute to who we are. We have our conscious mind and our unconscious mind. Some people call this the subconscious mind.

Consciously, you're probably thinking right now, how long is this video going to be, what am I am going to learn, what am I having for dinner tonight etc

Unconsciously, there's a whole load of processing going on that you don't even think about. For example, have you ever driven home and you get there and you literally can't remember your drive home? Or you're brushing your teeth and you don't actually recall picking up for toothpaste...?

This is all unconscious behaviour. The things you do automatically.

    Let's talk pirates...

Imagine a pirate who is the Captain of a ship... He gives orders to the crew such as:

    "Onboard!

    Batten Down the Hatches

    All Hands on Deck"

    (Totally Googled those 🤭)

He's shooting out all directions to the crew.

    My question to you is:

"Who is in control of the ship? Is it the captain, the pirate or is it the crew?"

The crew are actually in control... if the pirate demanded that everyone go left or right, but there was no crew, the ship is not going to move.

Here's why I'm telling you this story...

Your conscious mind is the pirate - the captain

Your conscious mind is the one that you think is giving you all the orders.

The unconscious mind is the crew.

Your unconscious is what is actually making everything work in your life under the scenes.

Do you want to get some control over your unconscious mind...?

Of course, you do 😉 Understanding how it works means that you can use it to the best of your advantage enabling you to take your life to the next level.

I seriously would LOVE to see this taught in schools. Image what we could be doing with our lives if we were taught this stuff from a young age...!

I'm going to go through the essential things that you need to know about your unconscious mind in order to use it to your advantage and to achieve whatever it is you want in your life! So get excited!

  • 3 action steps to improve how you feel towards your body

    https://www.victoriakleinsman.com/connection/3-action-steps-to-improve-how-you-feel-towards-your-body/

“Loving my body is a mindset I create for myself”

    Just read that again…

Imagine for a moment what it would feel like if you could genuinely be fully accepting of how you look right now. In this moment. Without needing to lose weight, tone up, get smaller, change your shape, get your boobs or nose done first… Just you, exactly how you are right now…

What a radical thing to imagine!

I’m here to tell you that this is possible for you!!! I know that your mind is most likely arguing back right now telling me all the reasons why this won’t be possible for you.

I get it. I’ve been there. In fact, I use to shower in the dark so I didn’t have to catch a glimpse of my body. I use to avoid mirrors at all costs and if I saw myself in one when I wasn’t ‘prepared’ I would have an actual break down and it would ruin my whole week. I dreaded anyone asking me to go out because I never had anything that fit me that I felt good in. And if my partner would have surprised me with a sun holiday without having the opportunity to starve myself for at least a month beforehand, there’s absolutely not a chance in hell I would have gone… just couldn’t face my body in a bikini, I would rather have watched paint dry, or eaten celery sticks for a week.

So why am telling you all of this?

So that you can understand where I’ve come from and know that this is 100% possible for you too!

At the moment, your mind won’t be able to fathom you fully accepting your body as it is now… but the gap between where you are now and where you want to be is inner work, mindset training and action!

So I’m going to share with you 3 action steps to do, starting from today, that will help you to start accepting and loving that miraculous beautiful body of yours.

    Question time first…

Take a moment to journal out these questions before you get started.

    1. Why do you think you feel the way you do about your body?
    2. Do you think others see your body the way you see it yourself?
    3. What is your goal with how you feel in and towards your body? Why?
    4. If you weren’t spending so much hating your body, what else would you be doing?
    5. Ok now let's dive in...

    6. What is Health At Every Size?

Before I know what Health At Every Size was – when I ate or drank anything – I asked myself the following: will this make me thin or fat?

And that was pretty much all I cared about.

There was no “will I truly enjoy this?”  There was no “how will this make me feel?”

And there was no concern for my actual health. I didn’t really care if what I was about to eat contained a million different chemicals in an attempt to try and replace the flavour of the missing fat and sugars to keep it “low calorie.”

I didn’t care about anything else apart from my reality of “thin-is-good” / “fat-is-bad”.

My obsession with food and weight lead me to a variety of disordered eating behaviours, including:

      • Constant attempts at under-eating/restriction,
      • followed by binge eating
      • weight-cycling (aka “yo-yo dieting”)
      • food obsession,
      • low self-esteem,
      • (A LOT) of emotional eating,
      • Anxiety around going out for food
      • Body dysmorphia
      • and generally feeling like a crazy person around food.
      • When I started my recovery journey, I clung tightly to the hope that I could “recover” from disordered eating yet still casually try to lose weight.

But let me tell you this, I was never able to truly heal my relationship with food—including my binge eating—until I fully committed to giving up all aspects of dieting and started seeking “health” in weight-neutral ways.

Health At Every Size, combined with Intuitive Eating and some profoundly important self-acceptance and body image work eventually helped me to break free from the diet-binge cycle.

So what is Health At Every Size (HAES)? ...

      • Do you STILL want to lose weight?

I often get asked:  “How can I still lose weight without feeling crazy around food?” The ones that ask, tend to know me well enough to know that if their reason for wanting to lose weight was purely for body image purposes, I’d redirect them to my previous content explaining why this is the worse thing they can do if they want to find food and body freedom.  They say they want to pursue weight loss because they have a “legitimate” reason as to why they “need” to lose weight, outside of body image.  For example, women ask—  “But what if I need to lose weight for [fill-in-the-blank-health-reason]”  “But what if I need to lose weight to improve my performance at a sport that I love”   “But what if I need to lose weight to fit into old clothes [and I can’t afford new ones].”   “But what if I need to lose weight because I’m an actor/dancer/public-figure.” Etc… Listen to find out my response..

      • Things to do in lockdown - we're in this together

I usually always ask my intuition to guide me to help me to decide what to write for you beauties each week. Today it was clear as day what to write without even having to ask the question.

I've seen so many souls struggling with being in lockdown. They feel anxious, trapped, cooped up, lonely. It's difficult to just "be" with ourselves. We are so used to distracting ourselves with "life" that when we have to spend time with ourselves at home without being here there and everywhere, it's sooooo uncomfortable.

Here are 10 things you could do during lockdown that will support your mental, physical and spiritual health. If you like these, let me know if you'd like me to share some more with you.
