Continuing my Back to Basics series, this meditation invites you to come home to your senses , to gently rest your attention on sound, touch, and scent.

Of our five basic senses - sight, sound, touch, taste and scent - sight tends to dominate. In fact, over half of our sensory processing is dedicated to vision. So when we close our eyes and turn inward, we create space to reconnect with the quieter senses that so often go unnoticed.

This simple practice is about noticing what’s already here. The feel of the air on your skin. The sounds around and within you. The subtle presence of scent. By returning to these foundations, we can access a deeper stillness, a clearer awareness — and a softer connection with the self.

No effort needed. Just presence.

This meditation was inspired by an ongoing enquiry, "What is my deepest longing?". It is ongoing because often the first few thoughts that arise are directly related to the patterns and wounds that have been adopted in order to feel loved and accepted. But when we go deeper we can see that it is the OverSoul, or Higher Self, that holds the authentic answer to this question. To get to this place we need to go gently, quietly to hear the soft whispers of truth that sit deep within. This energy of the deep Self can be like a shy child, to communicate with it we need to be patient, calm, gentle... to simply wait and listen.

Today we are completing this mini series of meditations on the chakras, looking deeper still into the aspects that we hold in each of our energy centres and today we are at the crown chakra – the sahasrara – where we connect with the energy ofthe cosmos, find our relationship with the divine and from where we sometimes believe that we receive our inspiration…But Let’s take a moment to reflect on something we’re told all the time - that inspiration strikes like lightning, or descends like a gift from above. As though it’s something we’re lucky to catch. Something given by someone - or something - else. But what ifthat’s not quite how it works? What if divine inspiration doesn’t arrive... because it’s already here? Already within you. Not a spark from the outside - but a light that’s been quietly glowing inside, all along. That’s the shift we’re exploring in this meditation. This is the territory of the Crown Chakra - not the search for something out there, but the opening to what’salready present in here. To the vastness of the Universe… which is not separate from you.
