  • Bullet Points | How to Make a Habit

There has been a lot of chat in DMs and on email about habits in the last few weeks, so I thought it’d be a good idea to take a look at the ways in which you can feel out whether a habit is right for you.

We’ve all had to adjust this year, with varying degrees of restrictions and lockdowns but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to weave new and helpful habits into our new normal.

In this episode I share the six strategies that I think can help you make a habit stick or, perhaps more crucially, how to tell if it’s just not for you, including:

    1. Starting small and easing your way into whatever it is you’re trying.
    2. Giving yourself a timeframe.
    3. Attaching your new habit to something you already do and enjoy doing.
    4. Keeping a visual log of your habit as you do them.
    5. How a little accountability can help make a habit take root and give you a sense of satisfaction from day one.
    6. Figuring out what might get in your way before you begin so you can plot a course around, or through, it.

As ever, I’d love to know what you think whether that’s in the comments below, on DM or via email. I make this podcast for YOU and if there’s anything you’d like to hear on this subject, or any other, please feel free to let me know.

  • Jamie Genevieve | Creating the Vieve Brand.

Jamie Genevieve is a makeup artist, digital creator, social media superstar and now a brand creator with the launch of makeup line Vieve.

Just nine years ago Jamie was working on-counter in a busy department store in Glasgow selling cosmetics and giving in-store makeovers. She quickly earned a reputation for being highly skilled but also incredibly warm and friendly and was usually booked solid from the time the store opened until it closed its doors. This warmth easily translated onto video, both YouTube and instagram, where Jamie began to share makeup looks, tutorials and more with her followers quickly numbering in the millions - she currently has 1.4m followers on instagram and just under a million on YouTube.

The last nine years have seen huge successes and career highs, including a collaboration with MAC where she created her own lipstick shade as well as Jamie's online community of fans including celebrities including Drew Barrymore and Rihanna. Jamie adds another huge success to the list with the launch of her own brand Vieve, a project that's been in the works for two years.

In this conversation, Jamie and I discuss:

    • The story of her incredible journey from department store beauty counter to beauty brand owner.
    • How her beauty counter beginnings shaped her story and what came next.
    • How she translated her makeup talents to online tutorials and social media.
    • Why she'd definitely ambitious but need a little nudge from the people close to her from time to time.
    • How she came to create the brand Vieve and why it was always her dream to have her own makeup line.
    • Why how make up makes you feel is just as important as how it makes you look and much more...

Annie Black is Lancôme’s International Scientific Director, and she joins me in this beauty special to explain what the microbiome is, why we all have one that’s completely unique to us and how we can look after it for optimum skin health using Lancôme Advanced Génifique Serum.

Annie not only explains the extensive research that has gone into creating a product, the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Serum, that supports a healthy microbiome but why it’s universal and can be incorporated into anyone’s skincare regime regardless of age or skin type.
