February can feel like love is being shoved in your face. Cards, candy, flowers, couples, social media, and if you’re healing from betrayal trauma and a life saving divorce, it can feel like the world is celebrating something your body doesn’t trust yet. In this episode, I’m talking about Valentine’s Day triggers, anniversary triggers, and why being activated right now does not mean you’re not healing. I’ll help you look at triggers as information, not a verdict, and walk you through how to tell the difference between past threat and present day threat.
I also talk about the anniversary response or body calendar, why you can feel off before you even realize what date is coming, and why progress often looks like less intensity, less time, and a faster return to center. And if you’re in that place of “how could he” or “why wasn’t my love enough,” I’ll help you reframe it so you can honor the love you gave without abandoning yourself again. We’ll end with practical ways to choose safer love right now, without forcing romance, and without shutting your heart down.

Breathwork can feel intimidating after betrayal trauma, yet it can also be one of the most powerful ways to release what the body has been holding.
In this episode of The Empowered Divorce Podcast, Amie is joined by her friend and colleague Halle for a grounded, trauma informed conversation about somatic breathwork. Together they explore why breathwork can feel intense after trauma, how betrayal lives in the body, and why healing often requires more than talking things through.
They discuss nervous system activation, emotional release, and the importance of safety and co regulation when doing somatic work. Halle shares how breathwork helps quiet the survival brain, clear stored trauma, and allow women to reconnect with their bodies in a way that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.
This episode also introduces the upcoming Costa Rica women’s retreat and offers practical ways to begin reconnecting with your breath today, even if you are not ready for a formal breathwork session.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
Why breathwork can feel scary or intense after betrayal trauma
How trauma is stored in the body and why somatic healing matters
The difference between activation and regulation in healing
Why being witnessed is essential for emotional release
How breathwork can help you let go of what you no longer need to carry
Simple ways to start reconnecting with your breath right now

January can feel overwhelming after betrayal, separation, or divorce. It is often called “divorce month,” a time when pressure to change, decide, or move forward quickly is everywhere. In this episode of The Empowered Divorce Podcast, Amie shares a powerful portion of her January live Q and A, offering grounded guidance for women who feel emotionally exhausted, dysregulated, or unsure how to care for themselves right now.
Amie walks listeners through four foundational areas of healing that help rebuild safety and trust within the body after betrayal trauma: self compassion, self regulation, self advocacy, and self trust. She explains why these are not things you have to earn or fix, but capacities you already have access to, even when healing feels slow or messy.
You will hear Amie unpack why self compassion never disappears, even when you choose rest over productivity, how to untangle unhealthy co regulation with an ex, and how learning to say no to yourself in small ways can become a powerful form of self advocacy. She also answers a thoughtful question from the group about how to balance self compassion with self discipline without turning healing into another perfectionistic checklist.
This episode is especially supportive if you are navigating January after betrayal, feeling pressure to make big decisions, or wanting to reconnect with yourself without forcing change.
In this episode, Amie explores:
Why January can feel emotionally intense after divorce and betrayal
How self compassion supports nervous system regulation
What unhealthy co regulation with an ex can look like
The difference between self compassion and self advocacy
How small daily choices rebuild self trust over time
Why healing does not require rushing or forcing change
If you are longing to feel steadier, safer, and more connected to yourself, this episode offers a gentle place to begin.

In this episode of The Empowered Divorce Podcast, Amie talks about the deeply human question so many betrayed partners ask: “Why me?” When you’ve loved well, worked hard, forgiven, tried, gone to therapy, and betrayal or divorce still happens — your nervous system searches for meaning, justice, and safety.
Amie gently explores why this question shows up, how rumination can keep you stuck, and how self-compassion, nervous system awareness, meaning-making, and agency can slowly help shift the question from “Why did this happen to me?” to “What do I choose now?”
You’ll also hear a powerful story from the life of speaker John O’Leary and how post-traumatic growth does not mean minimizing pain — but learning to live forward with more self-honor and grounding. This episode will validate your pain, normalize your questions, and remind you that your worth and future are not defined by betrayal.

When you’ve lived through betrayal, emotional abuse, or a life-saving divorce, your nervous system learns to survive by disconnecting from your own body. You become hyper-attuned to everyone else — their moods, needs, reactions — while abandoning your own. And when the world chants “new year, new you,” it can feel like pressure stacked on top of pain.
In this episode, I talk about what it really means to heal: not reinventing yourself, but gently returning to the you who has always been there. We explore why your body still feels braced, numb, foggy, or unsafe — and how to slowly rebuild self-trust through compassion, awareness, and safety. I share deeply personal stories, real-life examples, and supportive ways to reconnect to your sensations, intuition, voice, limits, and needs… without forcing anything or judging the pace.
If you’ve ever wondered, “Why can’t I just move on?” — this conversation will remind you that your body is not the problem. It’s the witness. And you are not broken — you are becoming.

This is a re-airing of a past episode that is so worth the second air time. When I read the new term and definition of Partner Adaptive Bonding Cycle created by my friend and colleague @Hope Ray, LPC, CSAT, CHFP, CCPS, I felt like something landed in my body and my body liked it. A language, if you will, to explain what I had experienced in my previous marriage. I also started to see how this also continues to show up in many ways post divorce.
In today's episode, I'm sharing a sub term that had also yet to be defined, and I wanted to define it– The Post-Divorce Adaptive Bonding Cycle (Post-Divorce ABC).
This definition and model matters because understanding it can empower you to make choices and heal, especially if you've experienced betrayal and violence in your divorce.
In todays episode I'm sharing the basic idea of this model with key components that qualify this.
Key Components of PABCPost-Divorce ABC comprises:

Have you ever wished you could just stop caring so much about what people think? Maybe you find yourself constantly worrying about what others believe about you—your ex, your in-laws, your friends—and completely forgetting what you think about you.
If you’ve gone through betrayal, abuse, or a life-saving divorce, this one’s for you. Because I get it. That deep need to be understood, to have people see your heart and the truth of your story—it can take up so much energy. But what if you could care less about the things that drain you and care more about what truly matters?
In this episode, I’m talking about why we care so much in the first place and how that’s connected to our attachment patterns, our nervous system, and what we learned early on about love and belonging. I’ll share how my own over-caring showed up during and after divorce, why it was tied to justice and survival, and what finally helped me release it.
You’ll also hear how Dr. Gabor Maté’s work around authenticity and attachment helped me understand that real belonging can’t exist without being true to ourselves. When we sacrifice who we are to keep connection, that’s not love—it’s compliance.
Together, we’ll explore how to rebuild self-trust—the kind that helps you stand strong in your truth even when others don’t understand or agree. Because caring less isn’t about becoming cold or detached. It’s about reclaiming your inner compass and letting your sense of safety come from within, not from other people’s comfort.

If you are walking through a life saving divorce, separation, co parenting or parallel parenting, the holidays can feel like emotional whiplash. One minute you are holding it together for the kids, the next you are hit with a wave of grief you did not see coming.
In this tender and honest conversation, Amie shares a live lesson from her December Q and A where she talks about:
Why the holidays can feel so triggering after betrayal and divorce
How your nervous system bonds to a shared dream and why grief shows up years later
What it looks like to feel alone at big milestone moments with your kids
The pressure to create the “perfect” holiday after divorce and why that backfires
How to notice when you are in a George Bailey moment from It’s a Wonderful Life
Why overwhelm is a trauma response and not a character flaw
How your presence still anchors your children. Even on the years you do not have them for Christmas
Simple grounding tools to help regulate your nervous system during holiday stress
Ideas for micro traditions and new rituals that feel gentle and doable in this season
How to rewrite your story and step back into agency, even in a quiet house
This episode is for you if:
You feel waves of grief around the holidays and wonder “Shouldn’t I be over this by now”
You are co parenting with an ex and the holiday schedule feels unfair or painful
You are spending Christmas or New Year’s without your kids and your heart hurts
Old traditions bring up more pain than joy
You want realistic, trauma informed ways to ground your body and calm your nervous system
Amie uses her own stories as a single mom watching her son play high school and college ball, and weaves in the symbolism from the movie It’s a Wonderful Life to remind you that your life and your impact still matter. Your nervous system is not broken. It is responding to loss, love and the shared dreams that did not happen the way you hoped.
You are not behind. You are not failing at healing. You are human.

When betrayal shatters your trust and divorce changes everything you thought your life would be, hope can feel impossible. You might find yourself thinking, “I’ll never trust again.” or “Maybe I’m just too broken to start over.”
In this episode, we’re unpacking what hope after betrayal and divorce really means—what it is, what it isn’t, and how to find it again when it feels completely gone. Hope isn’t about waiting for someone else to change or for life to return to what it was; it’s about reclaiming your agency, your self-trust, and your ability to believe in what’s still possible for you.
We’ll talk about how to recognize false hope, rebuild your inner strength, and reconnect to the kind of hope that comes from within—the kind that lets you believe in you again.
Why false hope can keep you stuck in pain and waiting for change that never comes
The difference between survival hope and empowered hope
What Brené Brown teaches about hope as a learned practice
How to hold both grief and growth at the same time
Why hope isn’t naive—it’s an act of courage
How to root your hope in awareness, acceptance, and agency
“Hope isn’t waiting for someone to save you.
It’s realizing you have the power to choose yourself—again and again.”
If you’ve lost hope in love, in men, or even in your ability to trust yourself again—this is where healing begins.
Registration is now open for the Dating From Within Workshop, happening January 8–10.
This 3-day live experience will help you rediscover your confidence, rebuild trust with yourself, and learn how to date from a place of wholeness—not wounds.
You’ll walk away with:
✨ A clear understanding of what healthy connection feels like
✨ Tools to trust your intuition and body’s signals again
✨ Hope that real, secure love is possible
Because dating after betrayal isn’t about finding someone new—it’s about finding yourself first.
