Professional Guest Kevin Donnelly-Boylen, MD 

is a board-certified psychiatrist and obesity medicine physician who combines clinical expertise with lived experience as a patient living with obesity. He is married to Mike Donnelly-Boylen, an obesity care advocate, known on TikTok as Mike on a Mission.

Dr. Donnelly-Boylen earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed his psychiatry residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital program in 2016, followed by a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2017.

He has worked in emergency psychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry at a safety-net city hospital and currently practices public psychiatry at a state hospital. After witnessing the high rates of co-occurring psychiatric and metabolic illness among his patients, he pursued additional training in obesity medicine and became board-certified in 2025. He now integrates psychiatry and obesity medicine to improve quality of life and long-term health for patients with serious mental illness.

What happens after weight loss, when biology pushes back and maintenance becomes the hardest part?

In this episode, we break down the latest GLP-1 news around policy and legal developments impacting access to compounded GLP-1 medications in the United States.

We’re joined by special news correspondents Sabina Henn, an obesity advocate from GLPWinner.com, and Maria Rising, a GLP-1 reporter on TikTok and obesity advocate. Both are deeply involved in obesity care advocacy and work on and off the internet to protect patient access to treatment.

We begin with the broader national strategy shaping current GLP-1 policy, then walk through key federal and state actions, including the SAFE Drug Act (SR 6509), Indiana SB 282, and Florida SB 860 / HB 877. We explain how these bills could restrict access to compounded GLP-1 medications and why that poses a serious problem for patients who cannot take brand-name drugs or cannot afford them due to lack of insurance coverage and high costs.

We also cover the ongoing lawsuits between GLP-1 drug manufacturers and compounding pharmacies, including the Strive lawsuit, and examine the use of racketeering claims as a legal strategy. Throughout the episode, we focus on the real-world impact of these actions and how they could affect millions of patients relying on compounded GLP-1 medications for obesity and metabolic disease care.
