  • Balancing love and business

Founders Case Bakker and Jessie Lyon met and began selling Ecuadorian alpaca blankets out of the back of Case’s car. At the time, they didn’t realize that they were laying down building blocks that would later become a full time job for both them and six others. As time passed, they were increasingly inspired by the international connections and community being created by their efforts, and the potential impact it could have for communities both locally and globally. With the help of a notable collection of loyal and hardworking friends and family, Case and Jessie remain partners with big dreams surrounded by a team they couldn’t do it without.

For anyone familiar with Instagram, you’re aware that many accounts participate in giveaways, and work together with other accounts to promote their pages and their products. I saw a cute post with two alpacas one day a couple of months ago, and it led me back to an account for a company called Pokoloko. I reached out to the owners, and caught Jessie one day in April for a chat about entrepreneurship, business, travel, and the balancing scale of being in a relationship with your business partner.

  • Saying yes to yourself

Paul Fishman is a self love coach and You Do You activist. Paul has taken his life experiences and channeled it into a business and lifestyle that brings love, care, compassion and realness to the struggles we all face on our journey to self love. Paul speaks from experience, and his naturally empathetic way of guiding his clients comes right from his heart’s centre.

In this episode, Paul shares some personal stories from his road to self love, and about the shifts that have come along with saying yes to himself after years of not doing so.

Because this recording took place during the COVID-19 isolation period, we talk real talk about numbing practices and how they have been stripped from us, and how Paul has embraced this time to really look at himself and shift some of the narratives in his life.

Full disclosure here too, Paul and I recorded on April 9th, before all the deep COVID-19 emotions really hit me and before I’d really had the opportunity to digest everything it was, has been, and is now. After listening to this recording several weeks later, I completely acknowledge that my emotions rode roller coasters between this recording on April 9th and where we’re at today, and that I needed to exercise all things that Paul and I discuss in this episode.

  • Making crucial money conversations a positive experience

In her experience as a Certified Financial Planning professional, Martha Adams has spent her career helping her clients plan and achieve their financial goals. From as early as grade 6, Martha took her gift of turning inwards to explore personal narratives and narratives from those in her life around money and business to understand the world around her. Throughout this journey, she discovered a common theme that she was determined to change: the negativity around financial conversations.

This is where Martha’s educational background in both business and education shines, as she brings her heartfelt compassion, experience, and knowledge to uplift, empower, and educate those she works with. Her passion for changing the conversation around money and finances has become the focus of her life’s work, aiming to emotionalize these narratives and relationships to the positive.

  • Embracing direction with his whole heart

Mark Harrison has to be one of the most interesting people I know and follow along with on social media. He has been a source of inspiration and intrigue for years without knowing it, and has kept me entertained with his YouTube videos of his travels and his photography and videography adventures around the globe.

A few weeks ago, I saw an update of Mark’s about having COVID-19 and what it was like. I asked him if he was interested in sharing his experience with COVID-19 with me, and he jumped at the opportunity.

The episode starts with his Coronavirus story, but naturally turns into far more than that! From traveling and teaching abroad, to becoming a Vice Principal and “roof-topping” in China, to changing gears and becoming a full-time world-traveling videographer, Mark has many great stories to share.

We talk about how Mark achieves routine and balances his mental health while traveling the world, what he’s reading and super passionate about, and I ask some deep questions that highlight his values and animated personality!

  • The test you actually want to take

On April 1st, Esther de Bruijn and I had a very informative and interesting conversation about her experience with symptoms of COVID-19.

April 1st marked day 18 of her experience with this virus. Esther experienced her first symptom March 15th with a burning chest, unlike anything she’d ever experienced before. Having had Malaria and Typhoid in the past, Esther knew very quickly that something was wrong.

Part way through the conversation, I work through a variety of listener questions for Esther to answer, and at the end of the interview, there’s an update from the 12th of April to see how things have changed in the last twelve days.

Esther’s educated and thorough knowledge of the virus and and the current situation in the UK is extremely mind-opening. From her personal story about the inability to acquire a COVID-19 test to the sadness and grief she experiences not being able to physically be with her daughter, this episode is one you don’t want to miss.

  • Doctors agree, she’s one in a billion

Last week, Chris Forman eluded to the person who inspires him most – his wife Nicole. After meeting in a bar down in Kingsville, Ontario, Chris and I connected over some engaging conversation that included what/who he was most proud of… his wife Nicole.

Nicole has been battling skin cancer and melanomas since her childhood. To date, she’s had various tumours surgically removed, has battled chemo and the loss of her hair, and has had over 500 melanoma moles removed from her body. Doctors say this is beyond rare, and that cases like Nicole are more like one in a billion.

Nicole is currently fighting Multiple Myeloma, a form of cancer without a cure. Listen along to Nicole’s powerful story of health, wellness, love and resilience.

  • Working with crystals and energy

Kim Palazzi is a Designer/Craftswoman, passionate about creating artistic and wearable pieces with gemstones and crystals.

Unsurprisingly, Kim and I met in such a beautiful, organic way, through a mutual friend and crystal lover, Amy! During my last adventure down to the Kingsville/Leamington/Harrow area, Kim welcomed me into her home to share some of her her life stories and the events that have brought her into her purpose.

With a backstory in fashion design, her creativity combines with the energies of each crystal, which comes through in her jewelry making. “The gemstones and crystals dictate most of the creative process. I am a facilitator to get them from one place to the next so they can connect with whomever they are meant to be with.”
