International World Indigenous Day

International World Indigenous Day is a day that we can reflect on the native cultures, people and communities that help shape the societies we live in, wherever we are on earth.

Being a white, British immigrant, my knowledge of Indigenous culture and history is limited to the (likely very inaccurate) 'propaganda' we're taught at school, so to help us gain a better understanding of how it really is, I've invited friend and colleague Ben Stainer back on the show.

As a proud member of the Australian Aboriginal community, Ben's story is not only impressive, it's hugely inspiring. Ben built and sold a very successful plumbing and electrical company a number of years ago, which at it's peak had 65 staff and 45 trucks on the road.

Since selling up his business, Ben's been working with indigenous communities as a mentor and leadership figure. It was great to hear about some of the initiatives that he has been working on, some of which we'll be hearing more about in future episodes.

I absolutely loved recording this podcast. Ben talked about his family history, the decision he chose to become a business man, social issues in indigenous communities, and a whole bunch of other interesting stuff that will keep your earbuds planted firmly in your ears.

He's (so far) the author of 18 books on the topic of heating, and the website heatinghelp.com receives millions of views every month, however it wouldn't have gotten to where it has without his amazing daughter Erin.

When I last spoke Dan, he told me that Erin has taken the business to levels he never thought possible. After recording this series with her, I can see what he meant. Erin has an amazing knowledge of the online space and has been able to impart her skills into the business, thus turning it into a total machine.

Never before have we had someone on the show that can truly claim to be a world renowned expert in their industry/niche, so sit back and take some notes, because this is gold.

Episode 3, Attracting an Audience If you want to be heard, you need to find people that will listen!

Experts have followers. If you want to become an expert, you need to start attracting an audience. Perhaps even more importantly, you need to get good at attracting the right audience. If you've ever been in that situation when you feel like you're working with the wrong people, then that's probably a significant contributing factor. You've got the wrong audience.

If you're actively creating good evergreen content and you're sharing it correctly, then people will start paying attention. It's this process that builds trust with an audience and if you've managed to niche yourself in a certain area, then it likely that you're well on your way to becoming an expert.

With a combined community of over a million humans, it's fair to say that Erin and the Heating Help empire are pretty handy at not only attracting an audience, but also retaining one. Episode 2, Creating Engaging Content If you try to be everything to everyone, you'll end up being nothing to anyone!

We've all been in situations where we're sent something we simply don't care about. It might be a blog post, it might be a video, it might be an email, it might even be a podcast. Clearly not one of ours though...right?

Like it or not, content creation is the hart of relationship building, however engaging content creation is the heart and brains. If your audience is engaged, it's clear they're taking an interest in what you're doing. At the end of the day, it's all about adding value and if you can do that well, then you'll be on your way to successfully building the one thing that will reap you countless rewards, TRUST.

I don't know any platform that creates more engaging content than Heating Help and in this podcast, Erin talks about how with she's able to use content to break through the noise. With an active forum  that boasts over 10,000 threads, it's pretty fair to say, she knows what she's talking about.

We've all heard the saying before, however it's never been more true. Heating Help have niched themselves perfectly as the worlds leading authority on heating and it's for sure a testament to their success.

In this podcast, Erin talks to us about how to find your niche, how to market yourself and how to build authority. She also dispels the myth that niching yourself loses you work in other areas, which is a message that I have been preaching for a long time. If you can niche yourself at something in particular, you'll be amazed at how many windows it can open up in other areas. Often the perfect way to introduce other skills is by being really good at one.

This is a problem that I feel we all suffer with from time to time.I experienced it myself first hand last year, when I went skiing with a couple of mates. The whole time I felt guilty because I was away from my business.I remember while I was away thinking, 'why do I feel like this? Claiming your real estate Overview

Over the years, many a time I have come across situations where clients and colleagues have been stuck in a position where someone else has set up an account, or registered a domain that belonged to them by name.

Not only is this a pain in the behind, it'a also potentially quite costly. Imagine if you had some dodgy business running around with a website that's your business name. This podcast is about how you can go about protecting yourself from those scenarios.

• Do you have your business name registered?
• Have you got registered trading names?
• Have you secured your domains?
• Have you secured domains that are close to yours?
• Have you secured your facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+, Pintrest, Youtube accounts?

By doing this, you can prevent others from getting hold of them.  Sure you may never use half of them, however at least if you own them, then someone else cannot come along and take them from under you.

Hopefully this episode encourages you to get out there and claim your real estate.

Q&A - Charging For Qutes From: Dave at David Ferrari Constructions Expert: Adrian Fadini from Trained to Sell Overview

David sent in an email asking if we might be able to record a podcast on how to go about charging for quotes. He is a builder and he currently spends a lot of his time stuck in his office, working on intricate quotes for potential clients. The problem is that when Dave does a quote, he goes into a lot of detail, including things like material lists, hour breakdowns, etc.

Often when he loses a job for one reason or another, he has not only lost his time (which he has not charged for), he is also equipping the owner and potentially competing companies with a detailed list of what needs to be done.

To help me answer this question, I have called on sales guru, Adrian from Trained To Sell once again, as I know he is fresh in everyone's mind after the previous series. We put our minds together in this episode and I believe we have come up with a great strategy for Dave. It involves some 'repackaging' of his quoting process, in a way that he can effectively turn it into a product.
